Webinar on “Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights”

E Cell  in collaboration with IIC organised a session on “Awareness on Intellectual Property Rights”, on  24th March 2022 from 2:30 to 4.00 pm. The Resource Persons for the webinar was Mrs. Parvathy S, Assistant controller of Patents & Design, Patents Office Mumbai.

This webinar was conducted as part of National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) under the Government initiative,”Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. This pan-India ambitious mission aims to provide awareness on intellectual property and its rights to 1 million students. It aims to inculcate the spirit of creativity, innovation and ignite and inspire the students of Colleges/Universities to innovate and protect their creations.

The session started with the overview of why this mission was created. Why the government felt it had to bring awareness about intellectual property rights in India, in this day and age. The speaker then explained what are intellectual rights and copyrights and the different types of patent request received by the Patents office.

Mrs. Parvathy then educated the participants on the various procedures to apply for a patent and the time and costs involved. Trademarks were also discussed and the participants were asked to name the company associated with the trademark displayed by the speaker. A short video was shared to bring about awareness on the various day to day products we use that are patented in India.

Finally, Mrs. Parvathy spoke about the different Geographical Indicator tags that are granted to various products and finally discussed how various technological designs are patented differently.

The speaker addressed the questions of the participants. The session was very informative and resourceful.16 BCA/ B.Voc. (S.T.) and 19 B.Com students attended the session.
