Report of the Counseling Orientation
The Post Graduate Department of Commerce in association with the Student Welfare Cell, organized a Counseling Orientation for the M.Com students on 20th July 2024, between 10:00 am to 11:00 am in Classroom T-304. The session conducted by College Counselor, Ms. Eshani Bakhle, aimed to introduce students to the concept of Counseling, it’s importance and how it can aid in personal and academic development. Ms. Valencia Baptista, faculty of M.Com programme and Member of the Student Welfare Cell introduced the resource person to the students.
Ms. Eshani began the session by asking students to introduce themselves and mention their hobbies. She then explained the importance of mental health, covering topics such as what mental health is, how to assess it, indicators of mental health well-being, and common problems and challenges. She proceeded to explain the concept of counseling, the role of the college counselor, the types of counseling sessions offered, namely, individual counseling session, joint parent child session and career guidance. Ms. Eshani also covered some debunk myths and advised the students on how to seek help. She also mentioned that the matters are kept confidential.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shina, student of M.Com Part I. The students engaged actively, asking questions and clearing their doubts about various aspects of mental health and counseling. The session provided valuable information about the various facilities available under the college’s counseling cell. A total of 47 students benefitted from the session.
