Certificate Course – Programming in Python (For Non-CS Students)
The Department of Computer Science designed and conducted a 15-hour certificate training on the topic “Programming in Python” for non-CS students. Its aim was to provide basic programming knowledge to the students who wish to learn programming.
Unit Topic
Unit 1 Introduction to Programming Concepts, Writing Algorithms and drawing Flowcharts.
Unit 2 Introduction to data, concept of variables and their scope, different operators, and their usage.
Unit 3 Introduction to Python as a programming language and using PyCharm
Unit 4 Writing Simple Python Programs using variables, operators, and input/ output statements
Unit 5 Conditional Statements
Unit 6 Looping Constructs: While loop
Unit 7 Looping Constructs: For loop
Unit 8 Python for Data Science
This certificate course was conducted as part of the inter-departmental activity by Department of Computer Science from 22nd June to 29th June 2022 from 8 AM to 10.00 AM. Assistant Professors of the Department Ms. Ankita Naik, Ms. Rama Borkar and Mr. Sameer Patil were the resource persons for the training sessions. All the participants acquired the basic knowledge of Python programming through coding & debugging process and completed following topics.
They also visualized and understood the importance of Python programming in the field of data science. The training session culminated with an assessment and feedback process in which all participants earned an e-certificate.
The overall response to the sessions was positive and quite encouraging. The participants have suggested to organize similar certificate courses in the near future. The course was successfully completed by 10 first year B.Com students. This activity was a joint effort by the Department of Computer Science and the IT Department of the B.Com programme. The teacher in charge of this certificate course was Mr. Sumit Kumar, Head of the Department – Computer Science Department.
