eSafety-Intellect: A Cyber Security Awareness Quiz

The Department of Computer Science organized an Online Quiz eSafety-Intellect: A Cyber Security Awareness Quiz from 27nd July to 2nd August 2021.

The quiz comprised 20 Questions with 5 Points each and the participant had to score 50% and above to earn an e-certificate indicating his/her scores on it.

This Quiz reached out to 2948 participants in and outside India. Of these participants, 1596 scored 100%, 321 scored 95%, 125 scored 90% and others scored below 90%. An email message was sent to those who scored less than 50% conveying thanks for answering the quiz.

The Quiz coordinator was Mr. Swapneel S Naik, Asst. Prof. Department of Computer Science.

Article Writing Competition “Symbol of Unity – Olympics”

The Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with Department of English & Communication organized an Article Writing Competition on the topic “Symbol of Unity – Olympics” for all the Students of Vidya Vikas Mandal’s on the Occasion of Tokyo Olympic 2020 from 27thJuly 2021 from 10 am to 2nd August 2021 till 12 pm. The main purpose of organizing this competition was spread awareness about Olympics amongst the youth of our society.

The competition had a staggering response of 19 participants submitting their articles across the sister institutions. The submission were accepted on the mentioned email Id.  All the articles were well written and structured.  Ms. Amba Prabhu and Mr. Shrikant Madar were the judges for the competition.  They selected best 3 articles and the results were declared as follows:

1st place – Astrid Fernandes (GR.K)

2nd Place – Petalia Cutinho (SDCCE)

3rd Place – Reuel Rodrigues (VVA)

Certificate were given to all the participants. The winners were given medals and certificates.

‘Word-o-Logy’ – Fun With Words

The Department of English and Communication and Counselling Cell jointly organised ‘Word-o-Logy’ – Fun With Words (Language puzzle) on 1st August, 2021 via Online mode for the aspiring students of SDCCE. This was a student engagement activity intended to test the student’s language skills.

The activity had an English language puzzles to be solved via online link provided to the students. The word game had few words related to ‘Psychology’, hidden in the pattern of words in the link. Participants had to identify those listed words to complete the quiz. There was another vocabulary test which had a bunch of incomplete words which students had to complete. The clue provided for this exercise was ‘mental health.’

The response was overwhelming with 70 participants completing the puzzle and the test.

“Physical Activity” for SDCCE Staff

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organize a “Physical Activity” Competition for SDCCE staff on the Occasion of Tokyo Olympic 2020.The main purpose of organizing this Competition is to make the people aware about sports and to develop interest in it among them.

The competition was designed in the form of a circuit with multiple stations. The participants required to complete the whole circuit with minimum time in order to win.

There was 4 different categories of the competition – below 35 age Men, below 35 age Women, above 35 age Men, above 35 age Women. The Circuit was designed by taking into consideration above categories. And individual best performance in each category was given a medal with certificate.

Above 35 age Best Men Title- Mr. Ashok Naik

36 teachers participated in the activity and participation certificate was given to all the participants.

Swachh Bharat Student Internship(SBSI) 2020 Course

Swachh Bharat Student Internship (SBSI) Course is an initiative of the Goa University from February to July 2021. The objective of this course was to engage the youth for achieving the vision of a CLEAN, GREEN and HYGIENIC INDIA. The course aimed to develop and enhance the leadership and management skills of the youth by engaging them for Swachh Bharat Mission. 2 groups with 13 NSS volunteers of S.Y.B.Com enrolled for this course. 12 volunteers completed the course.

The area of work selected for the internship was “Waste Management” and “Sanitation and Hygiene”. The activities were carried out in the adopted village under the mentorship of Mr Ainsley Bernard and Mr Shrikant Madar.

The SBSI 2020 evaluation for compiling the merit list for SBSI 2020 cash awards at the College level was held on 2nd and 3rd of August 2021 through Google meet. This was organised by the SBSI 2020 team at Goa University. There were 15 presentations from 8 participating colleges assessed by the SBSI Evaluation committee comprising of 9 members.

The following team of interns guided by SBSI mentor, Mr Ainsley Bernard, won the 2nd Consolation Prize of Rs.5,000/-

Graduation and Farewell function for the M.Com Part II students

The Post-Graduate Department organized the Graduation and Farewell function for the M.Com Part II students on 30th July 2021 via the Google Meet Platform. The students of M.Com Part I bid farewell to their seniors with great zeal and enthusiasm. The comperes for the Program were Ms. Usma Shaikh and Ms. Siddhi Guinde students of M.Com Part I. It was a morning filled with mixed emotions for everyone present in the virtual meeting to witness the official send-off for the outgoing batch of M.Com Part II students, class 2019-2021.

The students recalled all their memories during their 2 years in the Department. Following this was a song medley dedicated to the fantastic seniors by Ms. Shristi Patel, student of Part I. Some exciting and fun online games were also organized and different titles were awarded to the passing out students based on their personality and talents.

Later the faculty of the department conveyed their best wishes and wished all the students good luck for their future endeavors. They urged students to do their best and face life’s challenges with confidence.

The Part II students shared their views and experience about the Department and gave their valuable feedback and recalled their journey in the College for the last two years. They expressed their deep love and gratitude towards the institution and the teachers for constantly motivating and guiding them during these 2 years of their post-graduation journey. The Principal Dr. Prita Mallya addressed the students and wished them all the best for their future prospects.

It was a colorful and a participative virtual farewell. All the students enjoyed the program thoroughly. The day was a memorable one both for the outgoing batch and the teachers. Overall the event was a grand success.

Visit to Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

The faculty members of the Post-Graduate Department visited the office of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Panjim on 29th July 2021 at 2.00 pm. The objective of the visit was to identify opportunities for linking with CII for the purpose of Recruitment and Placement of the Post-Graduate students of our college.

Mr. Azzan Sheikh, HR Executive of CII gave a brief introduction about CII and the initiatives of CII to conduct Job Drives in various institutions and locations.  He explained in detail the procedure and the formalities required to be completed for conducting the job drive for the M.Com students in our college. He further discussed the specifics of the Job Drive to be conducted at the College campus, along with the details of the recruiters to be invited for campus placement, the job description and the number of job openings in each company across various categories was discussed. The infrastructural requirement to conduct the job drive was also assessed by Mr. Sheikh.

Probable dates for the job drive were discussed and the recruiters were shortlisted based on the job profile and students’ qualifications. It was a very fruitful and interactive session.

Session on Self-Care for Teachers

The Counselling Cell organised a session on “Self-Care for Teachers” for all the teaching staff members of the College on July 29, 2021. The Resource Person was the College Counsellor, Ms. Amba Prabhu. This session focused on what is self-care and why it is important, especially for those in the field of academics. Before beginning the session the participants were given a small activity in which they had to write down their daily routine and identify the activities they do for themselves. The Resource Person began the session with discussion on health and its components. She specifically focused on mental health and how to improve it. She also focused on how a teacher’s job can be stressful.

She spoke in detail about self-care, the challenges faced by people to include self-care in their routine. She also discussed reframing the negative statements into positive affirmations. She then went on to explain different areas of self-care.

She also spoke about different myths about self-care. After debunking some myths she spoke about the importance of self-care in our lives and more so in the lives of the teachers. She also spoke about a TedTalk video on Self-Care by Susan Winters. She spoke about three self-care activities – physical activity, stillness and earthing, which if practiced can reduce the chances of physical illnesses and also improve mental health. Lastly a small video was screened on self-care.

The floor was open for participants to share their inputs about self-care and to ask any questions or queries if they had any. The session concluded at 9:30 a.m.  38 teachers participated in the activity.

Poster and Essay Writing competition On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas

The NCC Army Wing of the College organized an online Poster and Essay Writing Competition on 26th July, 2021 on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Kargil Diwas is celebrated on 26th of July to commemorate India`s victory over Pakistan during the Kargil War of 1999. Students participated enthusiastically.

Ms. Janice Gomes, M.Com -II bagged the First Place & Ms. Evelyn D’Costa of TY B.Com – C bagged the First and Second Place respectively for the essay competition. In the Poster competition Mr. Pratam Nagvekar FY B.Com – C got the First Place & Miss. Disha Gaonkar FY B.Com C got the Second Place. E-Certificates were provided to all participants. ANO Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar was the coordinator for the event.

“Financial Services & Industry 4.0: Untapped Career Potential Opportunities”

The BBA(Financial Services) Department of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized an Online Session on “Financial Services & Industry 4.0: Untapped Career Potential Opportunities” for XII Standard Students on 24th July 2021 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. using Google Meet platform.

The Resource Person for the session was an alumnus of the BBA(FS) Department – Mr. Chirag Majithia, Founder at Shreeji Financial Investments, Margao, Goa. Prof. Prita D. Mallya, Principal of the College, welcomed the Guest Speaker followed by his introduction by Mr. Mayuresh Adsul, Assistant Professor of Commerce.

Mr. Chirag Majithia started the session with a brief introduction on the Financial Services sector – he said it should rather be called an industry. He said the banking industry is the backbone of India’s financial services industry and provided an elaborate explanation on the following topics:

Banking
Stock Market
Mutual Funds

During the session, Mr. Majithia laid emphasis on the importance of fundamental and SWOT analysis of business, the opportunities available in the industry of finance and also shared his knowledge and experience he gained through the BBA(Financial Services) programme.

Mr. Chirag Majithia concluded the session by stating that the financial services industry has a wide scope as it is multifaceted, offering a variety of positions that cater to different skills and interests. He also mentioned that the students must plan and take control of their future making informed choices about their education. Later, Ms. Swati D. Bhat, Assistant Professor of Management briefly introduced the BBA(FS) programme to the audience.

47 participants attended the session. The session ended at 11:00 a.m. with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Mayuresh Adsul, Assistant Professor of Commerce. The session was coordinated by Ms. Lizia V. Gomes, Assistant Professor of Commerce.
