Observance of National Librarian Day 2021

The Department of Library and Readers’ Club jointly observed the National ‘Librarian Day: 2021’ on 12th August 2021 in the Library Reading Room. The Vice-Principal, Dr. Rodney D’silva inaugurated the function, followed by the lighting of the lamp and offering floral tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, father of Library Movement in India. Dr Ranganathan was a Librarian and a Mathematician from Madras.

To commemorate the National Librarian’s Day, a book exhibition was organised on the theme ‘World Famous Novels’ this was attended by the teachers and book lovers. Participants also issued books on the spot. An e-quiz was open for general public on ‘Books and Authors’, which was answered by 172 readers/participants. Certificates were given to all the participants.

“Demystifying the NAAC Assessment and Accreditation Process”

Assistant Professor Gajanan B. Haldankar participated in Two Days state level seminar on “Demystifying the NAAC Assessment and Accreditation Process” held on 11th and 12th August 2021 at Sanskruti Bhavan, Panjim Goa organized by Vidya Prabodhini College of Commerce Education, Computer & Management, Porvorim- Goa in association with Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa and in Collaboration with Centre for Education Development Administration (CEDA), Pune. The Chief Guest for the function was Honourable Chief Minister of Goa Dr. Pramod Sawant, and Guest of Honours were

1) Shri. Prasad Loayekar – Director, Directorate of Higher Education Govt. of Goa.

2) Prof. Bhushan Bhave – Principal of Vidya Prabhini College Porvorim Goa

3) Shri. Dhananjay Kulkarni – Secretary Central for Education Development Administration, Pune

The main objectives of the seminar were to educate participants about revised Accreditation Framework of the NAAC and also to explain about the documentation process for the IIQA, AQAR, and SSR and enable them to prepare for the same.

On 11th August 2021 -Day 1- session started at 11.00 a.m., chaired by Dr. Vikas Pissurlekar, Principal of PES’s Shri Ravi S Naik College of Commerce & Science, Ponda Goa. The Resource Persons were Dr. Varsha Deshpande, IQAC Coordinator BMCC Pune, Executive Member (CEDA) and Dr. Sulabha Deuskar, Executive Member (CEDA). They discussed in detail criterion 1, 2 and 3 under NAAC. The session concluded at 1.30 p.m. Session two started at 2.30 p.m. and the resource person for the session was Dr. Beena Inamdar, Executive Member (CEDA), she highlighted criterion 4 and 5 under NAAC.

Day 2- 12th August, session started at 9.30 a.m. and it was chaired by Prof. Prita D Mallya, Principal, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics Margao Goa. The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Beena Inamdar, Executive Member (CEDA), she explained in detail about criterion 6 and 7 of NAAC. Last Session i.e., panel discussion on NEP and NAAC started at 11.00 a.m. the discussion was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Dessai, Principal, Cuncolim Education Society’s college of Arts and Commerce (CES), Cuncolim Goa. The Panel member for the discussion were Prof. Dilip Arolkar, Principal, DM’s College Assagao Goa, Prof. Manoj Kamat, Principal, Shree Mallikarjun College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Cancona Goa, Shri. Dhananjay Kulkarni, Secretary, CEDA, Pune. The Panelist highlighted and discussed about various points relating to NEP policy and NAAC. The function concluded at around 1:30 p.m on 12th August 2021.

A session on Goa’s very own Job Search Portal “Job Desk”

The Placement Cell organized a virtual session on Goa’s very own Job Search Portal “Job Desk” on 11th August 2021 for the TY students across all programmes of the College. The session commenced at 6:00 p.m. The Resource Persons for the session were Mr. Harish S.S. Velingkar and Mr. Shrinivas Josh, Co-Founders at Job Desk Goa.

Asst. Prof. Grishmi Thakur introduced the Speakers for the session. Mr. Harish Velingkar. To begin with Mr. Velingkar introduced the participants about the Job Desk, the journey from 2007 till date, and the objectives behind starting the portal.

Mr. Shrinivas Joshi spoke about the various qualities that the employer looks and prefers in an employee. He also mentioned that along with the aptitude, the right attitude of the candidates is the utmost important factor, and most of the students are rejected mainly because of the wrong attitude they show at the time of the interviews.

The subsequent demonstration explained how students can subscribe to the portal by paying a nominal fee of ₹.199 per year. This subscription will help the students to apply for the vacancies that would be posted on the portal. Mr. Harish demonstrated current vacancies that have been posted by the employers on the portal. He also specified that this vacancies lasts for a short period of time and if any student is not willing to pay, then he/she can just upload his/her Curriculum Vitae and tick on the alert option after which they will be informed about the vacancy. All the vacancies shall however, not be intimated.

The session ended at 7:15 p.m. and it was very much appreciated by the students. 47 students participated in the session.

Campus Placement Drive P.G Department

The Post-Graduate Department of Commerce (M.Com) in Association with CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), CII MCC (CII Model Career Center), Government of Goa and Yi (Young Indians) organized a Campus Placement Drive on 11th of August 2021 at 9.30 am onwards on the college campus for the students and alumni of the P.G. Department of the college.

The Guest for the Campus Placement Drive was Mr. Jayesh Raikar, Chairperson, Yi Goa and Mr. Vaikunth Dempo, Co-Chairperson, Yi Goa.

Ms. Sheryl Da Silva, Asst. Professor in Commerce, P.G. Department, commenced the program by welcoming the Guests and the candidates, this was followed by a brief overview about the Campus Placement Drive. The Principal, Dr. Prita D. Mallya, delivered the welcome address. Mr. Jayesh Raikar, Chairperson, Yi Goa then briefed the candidates about Yi (Young Indians) and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry).

Mr. Azzan Shaikh, Human Resource Executive, MCC (CII Model Career Center) helped the candidates in the registration process. The Companies which were invited to the Campus Placement Drive were Reliance Nippon Life, Paytm, Axis Bank, Flipkart and Magsons. 26 students registered for the Campus Placement Drive, out of which 18 were selected for the 2nd round of the interview.

Online Quiz “Accounting Pro”

The Department of Commerce and Management of the College designed an online quiz “Accounting Pro” from 4th Aug 2021 to 10th Aug 2021. The objective of the quiz was to assess participant’s knowledge on basic accounting principles and concepts. The quiz was attempted by 136 participants from different parts of the country. An e-certificate was issued to participants who scored 60 percent and above. 117 participants out of 136 scored 60 percent and above and qualified for e-certificates. Assistant Professor Marjina Shaikh was the coordinator of the quiz.

Student’s Council Virtual Farewell 2020-21

The Students’ Council organized Virtual Farewell for TY students, 2020-21 on 9th August 2021 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm via Google Meet platform. The event started with Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya addressing the students. A farewell video was played for the students, refreshing their memories at the College campus. Overwhelming speeches were given by students Keegan Silveira (B. Com), Ms. Dnyananda Prabhudesai (B. com), Mr. Swan Menezes (BBA), Ms. Vaishnavi Naik (BBA), Ms. Disha Malvanker (BCA),Mr. Ramit Pai (BCA). These students shared their experiences and memories in this college. A quiz was conducted for the students and a live song was presented by teachers.

Finally, Vice Principal, Dr. Rodney D’Silva addressed the students and wished them well for their future.  GS Dhiraj Malgaonkar proposed the Vote of Thanks.

97 participants attended the farewell on Google Meet and 17 participants joined on the College YouTube channel.

Nature’s Enigma- Jigsaw Puzzle Solving

The Counselling Cell and Vasundhara jointly organised ‘Nature’s Enigma’, an online jigsaw puzzle solving activity on July 30th, 2021. This was a student engagement activity, but was open for all.

The activity had three jigsaw puzzles to be solved with different difficulty levels. There is nothing more soothing for our mind than nature’s bounty. Thus, three pictures from the Butterfly Garden of the College were converted into jigsaw puzzles online and the links were shared.

The response was overwhelming with 126 participants completing the easy level (Garden-30 pieces), 54 participants completing the medium level (Flower-60 pieces) and 28 participants completing the difficult level (Water Lily-100 pieces). The activity was open for completion till August 6th, 2021.

Damodar Utsav Prize Distribution Ceremony

The Students’ Council organized Prize Distribution Ceremony on 9th August 2021 from 8:30 to 10:30 am, for the event ‘Damodar Utsav’ held on 29th & 30th June 2021, organized by Students’ Council. This was an online event wherein students participated in different competition to present their skills and talents.

At the beginning, Principal Dr. Prita D. Mallya addressed the students and welcomed them. Brief summary report of the event ‘Damodar Utsav’ was read by Convenor of Students’ Council Dr. Lira M. Gama. Winners of Meme competition were felicitated by B.com Coordinator Dr. Edwin Barreto, Winners of BGMI winners were felicitated by HOD of Commerce Department Dr. Shami Pai, Crowning of Lord and the Lady was done by Dr. Prita D. Mallya, and felicitation of Conqueror of the Year, 20-21 was done by the Vice Principal, Dr. Rodney D’Silva, who finally proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Industry Interaction Session

Computer Science Department organized Mini-Project Review by Industry Expert on 09th August 2021 from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm via Google Meet. The session started with the welcome address by Mr. Sumit Kumar. He briefly informed the students about the objective and purpose of the session.

The Resource Person, Mr. Mohsin Shaikh, haztech, Margao – Goa welcomed the students and took update on the mini-project completed by them as part of their skill component with regards to Web Developer Qualification Pack for semester II.

The review process was conducted group-wise. All the doubts and difficulties were clarified by the Resource Person. He also mentioned and explained the projects completed by previous year’s students.

The session was informative and well received by the students. Approximately 18 FY B.Voc.(ST) students attended the session.
