Online Quiz -Tech Trivia

Department of Information Technology organized an online quiz “Tech Trivia” on 27th July to 5th September. The quiz aimed at testing students on general terminologies in technology and their applications, widely used social media platforms and recent developments in the field of IT.

Aspiring Commerce graduates should be aware that most jobs now require the use of computers, mobile devices or software applications in some capacity. Thus, to be job ready, along with strong academic and domain knowledge, students must also possess the necessary job skills that will help them stand out amongst their peers. And one of the prominent skill is IT skill.

The quiz was designed to test basic knowledge of IT and recent developments in the field. It also aimed at promoting the  Computer Applications course offered as a Generic Elective in the First Year of the B.Com Program. An E- certificate was issued on scoring 50% and above. 119 students participated in the quiz.

Industry Interaction Session

The Department of Computer Science in association with IIC of the College organized an Industry interaction session on 04th September 2021 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm for its newly inducted batch of First Year BCA with the aim of motivating them and informing them about the opportunities which lies ahead. The Resource Person of the session was CEO of haztech – Goa, Mr. Mohsin Shaikh. Assistant Professor Ms. Sweta Verenkar introduced the Resource Person.

Mr. Mohsin Shaikh welcomed the students and informed them as to how he will be mentoring / helping them over the next 3 years.  During his session, Mr. Mohsin opined  that everyone should learn the advance concepts by themselves then the dream of become successful in the IT-ITeS Industry can be achieved. He said to the audience that by enrolling into the BCA Program of Shree Damodar College, they have taken right decision as this college strive for skilling the students and bridging the gap industry-academia to a greater extent.

He shared his journey of becoming a successful entrepreneur from an average BCA Graduate. He elaborated upon various knowledge sets that one should acquire in order to become successful into various job roles viz. Software Developer, Graphics Designer, Digital Marketing Professional, Content Writer, etc.

He also stressed upon the importance of projects, live projects, assignments, internships, communication skills, self-learning and creative thinking. All doubts and concerns raised by the students were clarified along with its implications.

Head of the Department, Mr. Sumit Kumar proposed the Vote of Thanks. The interaction session was informative and inspirational and was well received by the students.  80 FY BCA students attended the session.

Student Qualifying CA Foundation Exam

Mr. Rohit Tulsidas Raikar a student of batch 2020-21 of CA Foundation course organised by VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, accredited by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India(ICAI) has successfully qualified CA Foundation July, 2021 Examination in his first attempt. Assistant Professor Gajanan B. Haldankar was the coordinator of the course.

National Sports Day- “1 Week, 5 Kms Cycling Challenge”

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized a “1 Week, 5kms Cycling Challenge” from 25th to 31st August 2021 for general public. The purpose of organizing this challenge was to make people active and aware of their health and fitness and also to invest some time for sports and physical activity.

Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat National Integration Camp

NCC Army Wing SUO Falguni attended Online EBSB Camp on 23rd to 28th August 2021 with two days of EXPA training during the camp. SUO Falguni Khatri was awarded Best All-rounder Cadet Award in this camp.

On 23rd of August 2021, the camp started with activities of socio-cultural traditions and customs of Uttar Pradesh, followed by Karnataka and Goa. On 24th, cuisines, food habits, origin and dialects of all three states were presented, which was later followed by poster making competition on “Quit India movement” and a debate on “Duties of Constitution of India”. The cadets didn’t only brilliantly represent their states but also strongly quoted their views during the competition.

On 25th the states represented their cultural and folk dance, musical instruments performance, Dekho Apna Desh – Vist of history and tourism, a discussion on leadership qualities and presentation on Quit India movement was also organized that allowed the Cadets to understand and get familiar with their culture and heritage across the country.

On 28th Quiz competition was organized followed by feedback session from ANO’s about their experience in the camp. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony where the cadets were awarded. SUO Falguni Kharti was awarded Best All-rounder Cadet Award.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Lt. Amit Chingle, 26 Kar bn. The camp was an enlightening experience that helped most cadets to understand their land and its beauty.

Collage and Video Making Competition (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav)

On the occasion of 75th year of India’s Independence, NSS Unit organised an Online Collage Making and Video Making competition for NSS Volunteers on the theme India @ 75. NSS Volunteers from FYB.Com & SYB.Com submitted their entries on the respective NSS Groups between 10th to 16th August, 2021. Five participants registered for the event. The first and the second place was bagged by Minoshca Dias and Belita Pereira while Roshini Khatun and Petalia Coutinho bagged the first and second place for the Video making competition respectively.Mr. Ainsley Bernard and Ms. Sharmila Kunde were the event in charge.

Patriotic Quiz” as a part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav

NCC Army Wing organized “Patriotic Quiz” as a part of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ on the occasion of 75th Independence Day on 15th August, 2021 through online platform. E-Certificates were provided to all the participants. Merit Certificates were issued to top 5 participants. There were 107 participants from different institutions across the State. Kareena Naik student of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics bagged the First Place. Tejashree Das bagged 2nd place, Arjun Ghorui bagged the 3rd place and Puja Ghorui bagged the 4th position all the students are from Sharadha English High School. Siya Sahil Kalangutkar student of Government Primary school Varkhand, Pedne, Goa secured the 5th position. Out of 107 participants 13 candidates scored 30/30. Results were declared based on the time taken by the participants to answer the quiz. Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar, NCC Officer was the coordinator for the event

Webinar on ‘Role of Youth in Promoting National Integration’

On the occasion of ‘Azadika Amrut Mohotsav’ India@75, the NCC Naval/Army Wing in collaboration with Baburaoji Gholap College, Puna & Poona College, Puna organised a Webinar on the topic ‘Role of Youth in Promoting National Integration’ on 14th August, 2021 via Zoom Meeting platform from 2:30 – 5:00 pm. The Convenors of the Webinar was Dr. Nitin Ghorpade, Principal, Baburaoji Gholap College, Prof. Dr. Anwar Shaikh , Principal Poona College, Prof Prita D Mallya, Principal, Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics Margao Goa. The Chief Guest for the webinar was Hon. Dr N S Umrani, Pro- VC S P Pune University.

The webinar was divided into 3 sessions. First session was the inaugural session hosted by Baburaoji Gholap College, Puna. The session began with a national integration song by the teachers of the college. Principal Dr. Nitin Ghorpade, welcomed the participants of the webinar. Prof. Vidya Pathare introduced the Chief Guest.  Dr N S Umrani, Dr. Umrani, addressed the gathering and spoke about the importance of national integration and encouraged the youths to take part in the process. He also congratulated the organising team for having such a webinar. Dr. Anwar Shaikh, Principal Poona College proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Session 2 was hosted by Poona College. NCC cadets of the college sung national integration song and expressed their patriotic feelings. Lt. V A Naikwadi of B G College introduced the Guest Speaker for the session, Lt. Narendra Singh Rana of Uttarakhand DTE. Lt Singh spoke on patriotism and its significance of National Integration. He remembered the sacrifices made by the heroes of the nation.  Dr. Baba Shaikh of Poona College proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Session 3 was hosted by Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics Margao Goa. NCC cadets of the college sang in unison a nationalistic song which marked the opening of the session. The CTO of NCC Naval Wing Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar introduced the Guest Speaker Lt. Dr. Gajendra Pratap Singh of Delhi DTE. Lt. Singh gave comprehensive outlook on importance of Images & Slogans in National Integration and explained how each state or country identifies by it.  The overall Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof Prita D Mallya, Principal, Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics Margao Goa. The session ended at 5:00 pm. 120 participants participated in the webinar. E-certificates were given to all the participants on filling up of the feedback form.

Webinar by Career Cell on “Career as a Chartered Accountant”

VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics and Goa Branch of Western India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India jointly organised a webinar on the topic “Career as a Chartered Accountant” on 13th August 2021 from 12.00 to 1.00 pm through Google Meet Platform. The Resource Person for the webinar was CA. Udhesh Verenkar, Practicing Chartered Accountant. The objective of the webinar was to make the students aware about the career opportunities as Chartered Accountant.

Resource Person enlightened the students about the details of Chartered Accountancy course, he guided them as to when students can register themselves for the Chartered Accountancy course, different levels of exams they have to answer, total amount of expenditure involved in completing the course and the different avenues open for Chartered Accountants after qualification. He also motivated the students to take up C.A course and explained them that even an average student can clear C.A exams provided the student is working hard with dedication and discipline once registered for the course. After the session the speaker solved all the subject related queries of the students.

Ms. Petalia Coutinho from S.Y B.com was the compere for the webinar, Ms. Amisha lotlikar from S.Y B.Com introduced the Resource Person and Mr. Jackson Rodrigues had proposed the Vote of Thanks. Assistant Professor Mr. Gajanan B. Haldankar and Career Cell Convenor, Assistant Professor Namrata Haldankar were the Webinar Coordinators. 41 students participated in the Webinar.

75th Independence Day Celebration

NCC Army and Navy Wing in association with the Department of Physical Education and Sports and NSS UnitCelebrated75th Independence Day on 15th August, 2021 on G R Kare College of law, ground. All the protocols of Covid19 Pandemic were followed strictly by everyone. SUO Falguni Khatri was the compere for the event. Prof. Prita Mallya was the Chief Guest for the function and also unfurled the Flag. NCC Navy CTO Miss Samiksha Vengurlekar administered the anti-dowry oath after which, the Principal, Prof. Prita Mallya addressed the gathering.
