Life Skills Session on “Etiquettes For Life”

The Life Skills Committee organised an Online Life Skills Session as a part of 30 Hours 21st Century Life Skills Certificate Course for the First Year BBA(Financial Services) Students on 27th October 2021 from 12:15 p.m. to 01:15 p.m. using the Google Meet platform. The topic of the session was “Etiquette for Life’’. The main objective of the session was to familiarize the students with different types of Business Etiquettes and explain the importance of Etiquettes.

The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Caroline Stewart Silva, Professional Life Coach. Assistant Professor Racheal Goes welcomed the Speaker and Ms. Nylisha Cruz, student from FY BBA(FS)- B introduced her.

Ms. Caroline Stewart Silva commenced the session with a brief overview on Etiquettes and it’s importance. She further explained various corporate etiquettes such as appropriate business introductions, proper handshakes, business card etiquette, corporate dressing etiquette, dining etiquette, business meeting etiquette and email etiquette. She also narrated some examples of good and bad etiquettes. Ms. Caroline Stewart Silva concluded the session by addressing the queries and appreciating the active participation of the students.

59 students attended the session. The session ended at 01:15 p.m. with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Trishia D’Mello from FY BBA – B. The session was compered and coordinated by Asst. Prof. Racheal Goes. Overall, the session was interesting and interactive.

Extension Activity by Computer Science Department: Talk on ‘Nutrition And Hygiene’

The Department of Computer Science as an extension activity organized a talk on “Nutrition and Hygiene” for the girls of Matruchhaya Balika Kalyan Ashram, Margao on 21st October 2021 at 5:30pm at Matruchhaya Balika Kalyan Ashram, Margao. The Resource Person was Dr Sneha Bhagwat, Founder –“Oorja Wellness Centre”, Margao. The duration of the talk was 1 hour. The talk was attended by 21 girls from the age group of 6 to 18 years along with one administration staff and one member from the management of Matruchhaya. Teachers present from the institution were Mrs Shweta Shet Verenkar, Mrs Rama Borkar, Ms Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar and Ms Purva Gude.

The talk began with the speech by the Resource Person Dr Sneha Bhagwat who was welcomed by Mrs Rama Borkar. Ms Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar, Assistant Professor Department of CS introduced the Resource Person.

Dr Sneha enlightened the girls about hygiene, how to take care of their health in simple and easy way by following simple daily routine and also how adolescent girls should pay attention to their well being especially during their menstrual cycle.

The Resource Person answered all the questions raised by the participants. The talk concluded at 6:45 pm with a Vote of Thanks by Mrs Rama Borkar. Assorted fruits viz. watermelons, bananas, guavas, papayas and sweet limes were distributed to the girls of the Ashram by the teachers.

Investors’ Hub Activity: Train of Thought – Critical Thinking Competition

Train of Thought – Critical Thinking Competition was organized under the Investor Hub by the BBA(Financial Services) Department on 23rd October, 2020 from 12:00  till 01:00 p.m. through Google Meet.

The competition was conducted for FYBBA(FS), SYBBA(FS) and TYBBA(FS) students. The students were expected to critically solve a situation given to them and write an essay within one thousand words on one of the topics suggested to them viz. Air India’s fortune under TATA’s stewardship, Revival of TATA Nano and Ford’s Exit from India: Could it be avoidable? Students were instructed to have a plagiarism check from the reliable sources. 21 students participated in the activity.

The competition was judged by Asst. Prof. Mayuresh Adsul. Ms. Larica Noronha, student of FYBBA(FS)-A, Ms. Devyani C. Sirakaje, student of TYBBA(FS)-A won the first and second place respectively.

The winners of the competition received e-certificates. Asst. Prof. Trisha Vadil, in-charge of the Investor Hub coordinated the activities.

Webinar on StartupLife: Rise, Fall, Rise again… Repeat to Succeed!

The Department of Computer Science organized a Webinar on ‘Job opportunities in IT and IT Companies in Goa’ on 23rd October 2021 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm via Google Meet for Computer Science Teachers and BCA, B.Voc.(ST) Students. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Vincent Toscano, Managing Partner Uzoorba Technologies

The Webinar began with a welcome address by the Principal, Dr. Prita D. Mallya. In her opening remarks she mentioned that entrepreneurship with innovative ideas is always best and she congratulated the Computer Science Department for organizing such a session for the students. She added further that as failure is not final, one should always take some positivity from it and bounce back. Later, the Head of the Department, Mr. Sumit Kumar, introduced the Resource Person. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Andre Pacheco, Assistant Professor in CS.

Mr. Toscano in his opening speech shared his startup life experience. He narrated, how he and his team work for the betterment of Goa with GEIT and RPI-based labs in Goan schools.  He said that learning skills will change one’s life in the field of IT. He added that age is not important to learn new things, as age is just a number. Later, he highlighted that to run any kind of business, determination is required and challenges that will come your way need to be overcome.

While his interaction with students, he opined that 90% of startups fail, so before starting the idea one should analyze things properly. He showcased a few examples of a Goan IT company.

Further, He stated that education plays an important role in imparting quality education today, and the Government of Goa took an initiative to start with robotics at a younger age for school students. He insisted students to watch a few technology-based web series and biopics and read related books.

At the end of his talk he suggested ways to look for funding form the agencies. He added that Uzoorba’s IT services will soon be restored and resumed. Lastly, he answered all the queries raised by the students.

The Webinar concluded with the Vote of Thanks presented by Webinar Coordinator Mr. Sameer Patil. 76participants (students & teachers) benefited by attending this webinar.

Live Session on ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for students

The Students Welfare Cell organised ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for the students of FYBBA and FYB.Com on 23rd October 2021.  Ms. Amba Prabhu, the College Counsellor was the Resource Person for the session.

The Counsellor introduced the mentor-mentee relationship to the students, informed them that they can approach the mentor as an when they need, to share their academic or non-academic problems, and also highlighted that the students should maintain a good rapport with the mentors. She also suggested that the students have to communicate their strengths, weakness, goals and ambitions so as to help the mentors to channelize their talents and capabilities.

The session was attended by 105 students. The teachers incharge of the session were: Ms. Poorva Gude and Ms. Rachael Goes.

Youth Employment Program orientation by TCS organised by DHE

Directorate of Higher Education in association with Tata Consultancy Services conducted awareness session for the Coordinators and the Principals of all  colleges registered for the program titled “TCS Youth Employment Programme” on 21st October 2021 from 3.00 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. Mr. Puthumai A Nazarene, Project Manager, Youth Employment Program, TCS was the speaker for the session.

Tata Consultancy group under CSR imitative has signed a MoU with DHE and will be undertaking youth training program for colleges associated with DHE. This program is designed to prepare youths, especially from the weaker sections of the society. Consequently, this program will help college students to improve employability and communication skill

This program is focused on skills development and will be implemented in collaboration in Association with Computing Machinery (ACM) India. The program is spread over 120 hours for entire academic year, and students will be trained on various domains such as Communication skill, Mathematics, English, Computer skills, Analytical skills etc. At the end of the program, the students will be assessed and certificate will be provided to each student after completion of the program.

Assistant Professor Ms. Grishmi Thakur from BBA (Financial Service) Department attended the session. The program concluded at around 4.45 p.m.

Live Session on ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for Teachers

The College has been conducting mentoring sessions for the teachers annually to discuss the concerns or matters that affect the students at the academic and at the personal level.  In the present pandemic situation, the environment at their homes may also not be conducive for learning, hence the institution needs to show more concern towards the students. Teachers as mentors can play a key role in reaching out to the students and making them mentally strong.

The Students Welfare Cell organised ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for new teaching staff across all streams on 21stOctober 2021.  Ms. Amba Prabhu, the College Counsellor was the Resource Person for the sessions.

Ms. Amba covered the following matters of concern:

How to guide the students in setting goals,
Appreciate mentees for their small/big achievements
Maintain confidentiality,
Take interest in personal lives of the mentees whilst drawing a line,
Influence the mentees in every possible way.

The sessions was attended by 17 teachers. Ms. Poorva Gude proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Poshan Maah

With an aim to create awareness on Importance of Nutrition and Healthy Diet, the NSS Unit organized series of activities in collaboration with the Life Skills Committee and Counselling Cell of the College on the occasion of ‘Poshan Maah’ (Month).

Following activities were conducted:

Date: 28th September, 2021

2 Jigsaw puzzles on “POSHAN Abhiyaan” IEC poster and “Healthy foods” were shared with the NSS volunteers and other students.282 volunteers and other students participated in the game.

Date: 27th September to 30th September, 2021

Reels Competition on the theme “Importance of Healthy Diet” was organized. The volunteers submitted made Reels of 15-30 seconds duration. These reels will be shared on Social media to create awareness on Healthy diet among the community. 38 individuals participated in the activity.

Online session on “Living a Healthy Lifestyle” in association with Life Skills Committee was organized. The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Joline Fernandes, Immunity, Lifestyle & Wellness Consultant, Founder of Dr. Joline’s Clinic.131 FY B.Com Students and NSS volunteers participated in the activity. Dr. Joline Fernandes explained to the students about the ill effects of expensive diet plans and the mistakes to avoid in eating. She explained various topics to students such as sustainable diet, bad eating habits, changes to start with a healthy living and the benefits of healthy living. Dr. Joline also requested the students to eat all the local seasonal fruits and explained the health benefits of the same.

Farewell Function – Mr. Prem Bahadur

The Recreation Cell organized a farewell function on 30th September 2021 at 12:30 p.m. in the G.D. Auditorium for Mr. Prem Bahadur, to honor his years of service to the college. The program commenced with the Prof and Principal Prita D. Mallya addressing the gathering. The DHE members who were a part of the function handed over Mr. Prem Bahadur’s pension order and other documents on retirement. This was followed by a recorded message from Assistant Professor Grishmi Thakur which was played for him. Associate Professor Dr. Anjali Sajilal and Assistant Professor Ms. Sheryl Sanchez also shared fond memories of Mr. Prem Bahadur. LDC Ms. Kanya Pavse shared her experience working with him. The Principal, Prof. Prita D. Mallya presented Mr. Prem Bahadur with a citation and the Vice-Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva handed over the memento to him on behalf of the institution. Mr. Prem Bahadur addressed the gathering and thanked everyone for the opportunity to work in the institution for so many years. Assistant Professor Ms. Stesa Pereira was the compere for the farewell function. The function ended with a few photographs clicked with Mr. Prem Bahadur and his family. Refreshments were provided at the end of the function.
