5-Day Student Development Programme

The Commerce Club organized a 5- Day Student Development Programme in association with Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers’ Forum, on the topic “Overviews of Stock Market” from 08th to12thNovember 2021 from 12:30  to 01:30 p.m. via the Google Meet platform.

Five sessions were organized on the topics: Investing during these challenging times, Portfolio Management, Asset Allocation vital for wealth creation, Financial Planning and Monetary policy and its implication.

Resource Person for the sessions were as follows:

Day 1:Mr. Kaushal Kumar Mishra, Full Time Lecturer, DHP Financial Training Services, Mumbai.

Day 2- Day 5: DR. V. Aditya Srinivas, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Economist, Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers Forum.

Day 1:Investing during these Challenging Times

On day 1, the program began with a welcome address by Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, Convenor of Commerce Club, followed by introduction of Resource Person by Ms. Marjina Shaikh. The topic for day 1 was “Investing during these Challenging Times” and the Resource Person was Mr. Kaushal Mishra. He began the session with a brief introduction about the importance of stock market. Mr. Mishra focused on the reasons to invest in stock market, Investment process, and major stock exchanges in India, Bull market, Bear Market and live demonstration on reading candle charts on money control site. The presentation was followed by a question answer session.

Day 2:Portfolio Management

The topic for day 2 was “Portfolio Management” and the Resource Person was Dr. Aditya Srinivas. He explained about the various factors that one needs to consider before investing. He also elaborated on the kinds of portfolio in stock market. He stressed upon the various fundamentals to be checked before creating a Portfolio. He also covered portfolio diversification and the extent of diversification. The session ended with a question and answer round.

Day 3: Asset Allocation Vital for Wealth Creation

On the 3rd day the topic for the session was “Asset Allocation Vital for Wealth Creation”, Dr Aditya started the session with a brief presentation on the concept of asset allocation, Wealth Creation, Ideal Asset Allocation. He stressed on the ideal asset allocation in respect of each age group. The presentation was followed by question answer session.

Day 4:Financial Planning

On the 4th day Dr. Srinivas informed the students about the various investment avenues available. The Resource Persons focused on time value of money, top mutual fund schemes, calculation of NAV, construction of portfolio, Retirement planning, etc. He demonstrated the Terminal Operations on Bombay Stock exchange. He discussed about the top 30 companies on BSE and the strategies to invest in the stock market. The session ended with a question answer round.

Day 5:Monetary policy and its Implication

The topic for the last session was “Monetary Policy and its implications”. Dr. Aditya elaborated upon the Role of Central Bank, Monetary instruments, Impact of interest rates on economy, inflation v/s interest rates. At the end, the resource person addressed the questions raised by the students.

The program ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the secretary of the commerce club Jackson Rodrigues. Towards the end the students were asked to fill the feedback forms and also answer an online quiz based on which 88students were issued e – certificates. It was an excellent learning opportunity for the students and the students actively participated on all 5 days.

National Youth Parliament

Goa Legislative Assembly in association with MIT School of Government organized National Youth Parliament on 11th November 2021 from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Auditorium, Panaji, to commemorate INDIA@75 ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav’ and 60 Years of Goa’s Liberation.

A total of 59 NSS volunteers of FY, SY, TY B.Com, along with NSS programme officer (Mr. Sanjay Velip) actively participated in the programme. The programme was conducted in three sessions. Following are the details about the programme.

Digital Library Orientation

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce organized an ‘Orientation on Digital Library’ on 8th November 2021 from 9.45 to 11.30 am. The orientation was conducted by the College Librarian Ms. Manasi D. Rege. The aim of organizing the orientation was to familiarize the M.com Part-II students about various E-resources of the college which will help them to work on their dissertation.

In the orientation Ms. Manasi D. Rege informed students that digital library provides access to high quality electronic database. The library has approximately 34,000+ books, 32 Magazines, 26 journals, 03 E-resources, 05 National and 10 Local Daily Newspapers. The library has various valuable books like Encyclopedias, Handbooks, Subject Dictionaries, etc for their students, faculty members and researchers. It manages its information via NewGenLib Library Management Software for printed books, non-book materials like e-books, e-journals etc as well as it also promotes open access to e-resources such as Indiastat, N-LIST, NDLI, Sodhganga, Pathshala DOAJ, DOAB, e-Pearson etc. Along with familiarizing the students regarding various E-resources Ms. Manasi D. Rege also guided about using these resources.

The orientation ended at 11.30 am. 18 students of M.com part-I attended the orientation.

Using emSigner for Office Automation’ for Non-Teaching staff

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized an orientation on ‘Using emSigner for Office Automation’ for Non-Teaching staff of VVM’s Ramacrishna Madeva Salgaoncar Higher Secondary School and VVM’s Vidya Vikas Academy on 30th October 2021 and VVM’s Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law on 3rd November 2021 from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm. The sessions were held in Lab 3.

Ms Shami Pai, IQAC coordinator welcomed the staff members and the Resource Person Ms. Pradnya Nadkarni.

Ms Nadkarni informed that ‘emSigner – Paperless Office Solution’ is a leading electronic signature based automated document signing and approval workflow solution. She explained that digitally signing documents using emSigner will reduce the workload of the Office. Currently the practice is to print notices, certificates, etc. With emSigner, the soft copy of the document is digitally signed and uploaded – there is no printing and scanning needed.

Ms. Nadkarni demonstrated the process of using emSigner i.e. uploading documents, creating workflow, adding Adhoc Users, bulking signing documents digitally, etc.33 non-teaching staff members attended the orientation session.

Clean India Program – October 2021

The NSS Unit organized Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav – Clean India Program from 1st– 31st October, 2021 this program was initiated by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Following are the objectives of the activity conducted:-

To organize activities to clean waste mainly Single Use Plastic waste throughout the country from 01st to 31st October 2021
To involve all segments of society, Government organizations including PRIs and Non- Government Organizations to instill awareness and feeling of pride among citizens to keep their surroundings clean and waste free.
To make the program as People’s Movement through Jan Bhagidari.

Live session on ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for students

The Students Welfare Cell organised ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for the students of FY BCA and FY B.Voc.(ST) on 30th October 2021 via MS Teams at 12.30 pm. Ms. Amba Prabhu, the College Counsellor was the Resource Person for the session.

The Counsellor introduced the mentor-mentee system to the students. She explained the role of the mentor assigned to the student. She highlighted the importance of speaking regularly with their mentor which will help them share their issues, problems, dilemmas if any, without any fear as the information will be kept confidential. She suggested that the students have to maintain good rapport with their mentor. She emphasized that the mentor will help them with choosing their career path, motivate them, help in goal setting, identify their weakness or the challenges faced and guide them accordingly. She also mentioned that the students can approach her if needed. The sessions were attended by 82 students.

The teachers incharge of the session were: Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair and Ms. Sonali Sarvesh Karapurkar.

Exam Committee -Report on a talk for project guidance

A session titled “Selecting a Suitable Topic for TY Projects & Research” was organized by the Exam Committee Project in Charge Dr. Lira Menezes Gama on 25th October, 2021 from 12:15 to 1:15 pm via Microsoft teams. The session was delivered by Shri. Shekhar V. Sawant, Asst. Professor & Head, Department of Commerce, Swami Vivekananda Vidyaprasarak Mandals College of Commerce Borim Ponda, Goa. The session was attended by present TYB.Com students.

The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Rodney D’Silva Vice-Principal, followed by a brief introduction of the speaker by Ms. Luvica Fernandes, a TY B.Com student who was also the compere for the talk. The speaker began by stating the scope of the presentation. He then elaborated on the different issues involved in project completion, right from choosing a topic to the various operating guidelines of assessment.

The topics covered in his demonstration are as follows:-

Choosing a Topic- here he explained how to define a topic which should have a purpose, also to explore potential topics, evaluate them and finally to finalize the topic for the project. Thus confirming that these initial steps will help to start with the research work. Next he spoke about the ethical considerations, which asks for carefully evaluating the potential harm. Also to be cautious about confidentiality, anonymity, plagiarism and misrepresenting the results.

Further in Research Process – he explained problem definition, how to carefully work on research problem, research objectives, and research design data gathering, data analysis, interpretation and presenting the results. He also spoke on Research Proposal, Literature Review, Data Gathering, Sampling Methods, Communicating the Results and Writing the Thesis.

He then proceeded by explaining to the students how to meticulously complete the project work. At the end in operating guidelines, he explained the supervision procedure and project work guidelines. The session ended with question and answer session. The compere proposed the Vote of Thanks.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized a “30 Hours Certificate Course in Physical Fitness & Nutrition” for all the SDCCE students from 13thOctober 2021 to 30th October 2021 from 1.00 to 3.00 pm in the Multi-purpose hall and Gymkhana in both, Offline and Online mode. 13 students successfully completed this course.

Industry Interaction Program-Lecture Series -1

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce organized an IIP-Lecture Series-1 on 30th October 2021 from 9.30 am to 10.30 am in the Smart Classroom.

The Program Coordinator Ms. Seema Dharani, briefed the students about the IIP sessions that are organized by the P.G Dept, every semester. It aims to enhance students’ knowledge about the industry preparedness and also providing them a platform to engage with elites from the industry.

Ms. Amily Gomes, student of M.Com part-I, introduced the Guest Speaker Ms. Jinisha Bhanushali, Director and Content Producer, Emeritus. Ms. Bhanushali began the session by speaking to the students about her early career stages. She then spoke about the Media industry with specific to national news televisions such as Times Now and Republic India Today, where she previously worked as a content director and the team leader under Mr. Arnab Goswami.

She gave a detailed description of the roles and responsibilities at media houses. She also laid emphasis on being versatile, which will give the new entrant a competitive advantage in the industry.

Moving further, Ms. Bhanushali spoke about her current job profile as a Director at Emeritus which is an MNC (Ed-tech) situated in U.S.A. She explained about the strategic approach of entry in Indian market during Covid-19 pandemic and the tremendous growth that the company achieved during that period. She also made the students aware about the various finance job roles in Media Industry like researchers for financial news channels, Content Creator for online courses, Desk team etc.

The students actively participated and also raised various queries about the career opportunities and the steps to be followed to begin career in the media industry.52 students from M.Com part -I &II attended the session.

Ms. Bhanushali also showed her keen interest for the placement of the M.Com students. The session ended with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Sankesh Bhagat, student of M.Com part-II.

Life Skills Session on “Living A Healthy Lifestyle’’

The Life Skills Committee of the College organised an Online Life Skills Session as a part of 30 Hours 21st Century Life Skills Certificate Course for the First Year BBA(Financial Services) students on 28th October 2021 from 12:15 p.m. to 01:15 p.m. using the Google Meet platform. The topic of the session was “Living a Healthy Lifestyle’’. The main objective of the session was to create awareness of unhealthy eating habits, provide knowledge on healthy eating habits and to encourage incorporating healthy eating choices in order to live a healthier life.

The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Joline Fernandes, Immunity, Lifestyle and Wellness Consultant, Founder of Dr. Joline’s Clinic. Assistant Professor Racheal Goes welcomed the Speaker and the participants. Ms. Ruth Pereira, student from FY BBA(FS)- B introduced the Resource Person.

Dr. Joline Fernandes commenced the session by stating the importance of a healthy lifestyle. She explained the various types of latest diet trends and its ill effects on health. She further discussed the unsustainable diets that should be avoided, how to identify sustainable diets, habits that needs to be changed to stay fit forever, ways to get rid of sugar cravings, healthy eating habits inorder to prevent hormonal imbalances and healthy eating habits to reduce fat and obesity. She suggested various tips for developing good eating habits and getting rid of the unhealthy eating habits. Dr. Joline Fernandes concluded the session by addressing the queries of the participants.

52 students attended the session. The session ended at 01:15 p.m. with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Asmi Naik from FY BBA – A. The session was compered and coordinated by Asst. Prof. Racheal Goes. Overall, the session was interesting and interactive.
