MoU Signing with FiiRE

Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics signed an MoU with Forum for Innovation Incubation Research and Entrepreneurship (FiiRE) on 1st April 2022, at 12:20 pm in the Meeting Room.This event was attended by the Principal, Vice- Principal, HODs, Dr. Maithili Naik, Convenor MoU Committee, Ms. Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar, Member MoU Committee and Program Coordinators.

The motive behind signing the MoU is to create support infrastructure and build capacities of student innovators. The institution looks at creating an incubation support system that can strengthen and support innovative student entrepreneurs. FiiRE will be involved in mentoring, educating and updating the students with relevant information from their field of expertise. This initiative also targets to provide support to bright minds to prototype their innovative ideas if found feasible. Dr Prita Mallya gave a brief introduction of all the members and highlighted the importance of signing the MoU. Mr. Prashant while interacting with the faculty members informed about what kind of attitude is accepted from students. He also stressed on guiding and supporting students who are willing to work and contribute their efforts on developing new ideas. This was followed by signing of the MoU by the dignitaries with the hope of inculcating the entrepreneurial attitude among students. The activity concluded at 1:15 pm.

Summer Potluck

The Recreation Cell organized the Summer Potluck on two days i.e. 26th March 2022 & 22nd April 2022. All staff members participated in the same with joy and cheer.

Teaching and Non-teaching staff members arranged refreshments for the summer potluck on the days allotted to them. Refreshment including Pav bhaji, Gulam Jamun and Lassi were arranged by the Departments of Economics & Banking, Mathematics, Law, Information Technology, English, Environmental studies, M.Com Programme, Library & Technical staff , and  Non teaching Staff,  on 26th March 2022. On 22nd April 2022, the Department of Commerce and Management, BCA/B.Voc (ST) Programme, and BBA (FS) Programme arranged for refreshments that included Mushroom Roll, Puranpoli and Kokum Juice.

Joint efforts of all staff Members of the College were involved for smooth coordination and success of the Potluck.

Quiz on Autism Awareness

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Week from March 28 to April 3, 2022, Counseling Cell organized an online quiz on Autism Awareness.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact with others. With correct therapy and intervention the child can lead a life like any other individual and even hold a regular job with appropriate work environment.

The main aim of the quiz was to create awareness about ASD among students, staff and the general public.

The quiz consisted of 15 statements and those who scored 50% and above were awarded certificates. Once submitted, quiz takers could check the correct responses along with the explanation of the statement.

139 responses were recorded till April 3, 2022. The link was deactivated on April 3, 2022

Street Play on Autism Awareness

On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Week from March 28 to April 3, 2022,  Counseling Cell, Literary Club and NSS Unit organized a Street Play on Autism Awareness. The play was enacted by students of the College and was held in the parking area from 12:30 to 12:55 pm.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact. The symptoms of ASD can be seen in a child from 2 years onwards. With correct therapy and intervention the child can lead a life like any other individual and even hold regular jobs with correct work set up. The main aim of the street play was to create awareness about ASD among the students and the staff and also to awaken compassion towards such individuals.

The play was written and directed by Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar, Literary Club incharge and Ms. Amba Prabhu, College Counselor. 09 students participated in the play.

Healthy Recipe Contest

Poshan Pakhwada is celebrated every year in the month of March by the Directorate of Women & Child Development under Poshan Abhiyaan. The main aim of Poshan Abhiyaan is to tackle the evil of malnutrition prevalent in India.

The NSS Unit of the College, under Poshan Abhiyaan organized a Healthy Recipe Contest. The contest was kept open for 7 days from 25th March to 31st March. Participants were instructed to submit their entries in the form of a Word document or PDF on NSS WhatsApp Groups. 5 NSS volunteers participated in the contest. The activity was Coordinated by Mr.  Sanjay Velip and Mr. Ainsley Bernard

Financial Education Awareness Programme

The Department of Commerce and Management in association with Wealth Genics Educart Pvt. Ltd. organized a Financial Education Awareness Programme on 31s March 2022 at 12.15 noon to 1.15 p.m. for the students of S.Y. B.Com.This programme was held in Smart Classroom in offline mode. The programme began with a Welcome Address by Dr. Rodney DSilva, Vice Principal of the College.  Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar, Assistant Professor in Commerce introduced the Resource Person, Mr. Girish Rane, Co-founder of Wealth Genics Educart Pvt. Ltd. (Goa Branch). Mr. Girish Rane enlightened the students with  importance of investment early. He showed the students various practical aspects of trading and investment in Indian Stock Market. He also discussed various types of investment avenues and how to invest in Indian Stock Market. He  discussed various career opportunities for students in the field of investment and trading.

All the students enthusiastically participated in the programme and actively took part in question and answer session. Miss Tuba Sadekar, student from S.Y. B.Com D proposed the Vote of Thanks for the session. The programme was compered by Miss Simren Mascarenhas, student from S.Y. B.Com D.  42 students of S.Y. B.Com participated in this programme.

Elocution Competition

The Consumer Cell of the College in commemoration of the ‘Consumer Rights Day’ organized an Elocution Competition for the students of the College. The theme of the competition was ‘Consumers, Know your Rights’. The competition started at 12:15 pm in room. No. F 102 of the new block. Assistant Professor Marjina Shaikh initiated the event by welcoming the judges and the participants. The order of the presentation was decided by drawing lots and each participant was alloted 7minutes to present the topic. The winners of the competition are Ms. Dimple Tavde from SY B.Com A and Ms. Petalia Coutinho from TY B.Com D. The students were judged on the basis of Knowledge, Originality, Confidence, Speech and Body Language. The judges for the event were Asst. Professor Samiksha Vengurlekar from Department of English & Communication and Asst. Professor Sheryl Sanches from Department of Commerce & Management. E-certificates will be awarded to the winners.

The results of the Elocution Competition were declared via the Whatsapp group and the certificates will be distributed on the day of Students Seminar of Department of Commerce & Management. Asst. Prof. Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, Convenor of the Consumer Cell, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The participants conveyed their willingness to participate in more such events and were grateful for the opportunity. Asst. Professor Marjina Shaikh was the faculty in-charge of the event.

Participation at 25 years Celebration of NCHRO

The National Confederation for Human Rights Organisation hosted 25 years Celebration on 26th March 2022 at SVD Seminary Hall, Raia-Goa from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm. 09 students of the College were deputed for the programme. The programme was on issues based on the theme: ‘Land, People and Culture’.

The programme began with a melodious Haryanvi song on human rights. Members of NCHRO from different states like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala etc were present for the programme. Fr. Savio Fernandes addressed and welcomed the gathering. Students from various colleges also attended the sessions. The deliberations were held on topics related to human rights such as how human rights are being violated in the society, how we can secure our human rights and the different initiatives taken by NCHRO over the years were also highlighted.

A book was released as a part of the celebration titled “Why do you fear, my way so much” by G.N.SAIBABA. The transgender community was also invited for the programme. The members of NCHRO from different states spoke about the current scenario of human rights and its violation in their respective states expressing their views and suggestions.

In the end representative of ‘Goencho Awaz’ spoke about the harmful effects of coal mining in Goa and gave a brief report on situation of Goa in the past 5-6 years. The programme concluded at 4.00 pm. The students were awarded Certificates of Participation. The event was coordinated by Ms. Marjina Shaikh, In charge of Value Education Cell. 05 B.Com students, 2 BBA (FS) and 2 M.Com students attended the session.

Vidya Vikas Mandal champions of Aalok Shirodkar Memorial Racket Sports inter staff tournament

Aalok Shirodkar Memorial Racket Sports Inter Staff Tournament was organized by Department of Physical Education & Sports of Don Bosco College Panjim Goaon 25th and 26th March 2022.The tournament consisted of three games i.e Badminton, Lawn Tennis and Table Tennis. The tournament was played between the Teaching Staff and Instructor in Physical Education belonging to different institutes or two schools from same Taluka across Goa. The overall champion and runners up of the tournament was decided on the aggregate score of all three games. All the participants were awarded with medals and certificates.

Vidya Vikas Mandal took part in all three events and  were declared Champions in Table Tennis and 2nd Runner up in Lawn Tennis and Badminton. After winning all the preliminary matches VVM reached semifinals in all three events. In Finals VVM beat Government College Borda in Table Tennis.

There was a tie  between the VVM and Don Bosco College Panjim with the aggregate score of 200 and Goverment High School Dabemwas the finalist in two events andwas declared the winner whereas VVM and Don Bosco College Panjim were declared as a runners up of the tournament.

NISM Online Certification Examination

The BBA(Financial Services) Department conducted the NISM Online Certification Examination in collaboration with the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Mumbai On 25th March 2022. NISM is an educational initiative of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Mumbai. The online examination was conducted in one module, namely,  the NISM-Series-V-A: Mutual Fund Distributors Certification Examination for TY BBA(FS) students. 72 students (30 males and 42 females) registered for the same.

The online examination was conducted in 04 batches for 72 students (30 males and 42 females) + 02 males (others) in the BCA Computer Labs 2 and 3. The online examination commenced at 10:00 a.m. for the morning session and at 02:00 p.m. for the afternoon session after exercising all the necessary COVID-19 safety measures and ended at 12:00 p.m. in the morning session and at 04:00 p.m. in the afternoon session. 72 students (30 males and 42 females) + 02 males (others) appeared for the online examination.

The online examination was conducted by the Department with the following objectives:

To enhance the knowledge of the students by focusing on the related practical aspects.
To add value to the students’ undergraduate degree.
To expand the employment opportunities for students.

Mr. Mayuresh Adsul, Assistant Professor of Commerce, BBA(FS) Department was the in-charge faculty for conducting  online examination. He was assisted by the technical staff of the College for conducting the same.
