E-Quiz on Indian Economy

The Department of Economics & Banking organized an online quiz on ‘Indian Economy’ to evaluate the knowledge of the participants on the topic and also to make them aware about the current scenario. The quiz was kept open to students and faculty members for 7 days from 19th April to 25th April.

The quiz consisted of 20 questions on Indian economy.  Those who scored 50% and above were issued E-Certificates.  107 participants answered the online quiz. The quiz was coordinated by Assistant Prof. Mr. Sanjay Velip and Assistant Prof. Ms. Poorva Gude.

Blue Cross lab. Pvt. Ltd Scholarship distribution function

BBA(Financial Services) Department organized Scholarship Distribution Programme on 21/04/2022 from 2.30 p.m. to 3.05 p.m. in the Library Reading Room. The scholarship was given by Blue Cross Lab. Pvt. Ltd. under companies CSR initiatives. The company is one of the leading research-based pharmaceutical companies in India with over three decades of experience in providing health-care products to people across the globe with the aim of improving human life.

The function started at around 2.30. p.m., the compere for the function Ms. Devyani Sirakaje of TY BBA(FS), She introduced the company and highlighted various CSR initiatives taken up by the company. The CSR consultant of Blue Cross Lab. Pvt. Ltd. Ms. Ajanta Burman was present for the function. She highlighted the purpose of the scholarship and assured that the company will always provide financial assistance to needy students in future.

Four FYBBA(FS), Two SYBBA(FS) and Five TYBBA(FS) students were awarded the scholarship of Rs. 15000/- each. The CSR Consultant Ms. Ajanta Burman from Blue Cross, Prof. Prita D. Mallya Principal of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics and Ms. Cinola Vaz Programme Coordinator of BBA(FS) handed over the scholarship certificates to the students.

National Webinar on “Synergy Between Circular Economy And Industry 4.0 To Achieve Sustainable Development Goals”

The Department of Economics & Banking organized a national webinar on “Synergy between Circular Economy and Industry 4.0 to achieve Sustainable Development Goals” on 21st April 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 p.m. The Resource Person for the webinar was Dr. Ashulekha Gupta a Professor of the Department of Management Studies from Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Uttarakhand, India. 92 participants attended the webinar across both the online screening platforms of Google Meet and You Tube.

Ms. Petalia Coutinho was the compere for the session. The Principal, Dr. Prita D. Mallya addressed the virtual gathering and emphasized on the relevance of a circular economy to achieve sustainable development goals. Ms. Brionna Noronha, Student FYBCom introduced the Resource Person for the webinar. Dr. Ashulekha Gupta commenced the session. Dr. Gupta explained the three basic principles on which the circular economy is based viz. elimination of waste and pollution, circular products and materials and regeneration of nature. She provided a detailed explanation on each of these principles and supplemented them with examples of companies that follow these principles. She also stated that India has adopted the path of a circular economy and could bring in annual benefits of approximately Rs. 40 lakh Crores by 2050.

Dr. Gupta went ahead to discuss about Industry 4.0 which is a new phase in the industrial revolution that focuses on interconnectivity, automation, machine learning and real time data. She emphasized on the benefits of Industry 4.0 and how it has improved efficiency so as to usher in the usage of lesser resources while creating more. Dr. Gupta then tackled the issue of sustainable development, its six central capacities and the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. The webinar concluded by listing out measures to achieve these sustainable development goals.

Dr. Gupta then effectively answered the questions posed by the audience during the question and answer session. Ms. Sudeepa Oli, Student FYBCom proposed the Vote of Thanks after which the link for the feedback form was shared with the participants.

Life Skills Session on “Critical Thinking”

As a part of 21st Century Life Skills Certificate Course, an online session on the topic “Critical Thinking” was conducted by the Life Skills Committee of the College for the First Year B.Com and BBA(Financial Services) students on 21st April 2022 from 10:00  to 11.00 a.m. The main objective of the session is to encourage the students to objectively think, analyse and evaluate an issue or an idea and make logical and rational decisions. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Suhas M. Mallya, Executive Director at Emco Goa Private Limited.

At the beginning, Assistant Professor Racheal Goes welcomed the Resource Person and the participants. Ms. Snigdha Bhattacharjee, a student from FY BBA(FS) introduced the Resource Person. Mr. Suhas M. Mallya started the session with an overview on critical thinking and it’s importance in arriving at a meaningful and rational conclusion. Thereafter he elaborated on building blocks of critical thinking being analysis, interpreting, inferencing, self-regulation and forming an opinion and conclusion. He further discussed the results of the questionnaire that he had shared with the students before the session and provided a summary on how students logically answered the questions posed in the questionnaire. He shared a few examples on the critical thinking process involved in power of compounding, multiplier effect etc.  He concluded the session by addressing the queries of the students.

 

66 students attended the session. The session ended at 11:00 a.m. with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Seeham Baig from FY BBA(FS). The session was compered and coordinated by Asst. Prof. Racheal Goes.

Programme on Investor Awareness & Lecture on Practical issues in ITR filing

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Goa Branch in association with Department of Commerce and Management organized a programme on 9/4/2022 from 2.30 to 3.30 p.m. in Room no. 206 for SY B.Com students in the area of Investor Awareness & Lecture on Practical issues in ITR filing. The Resource Persons for the programme were CA Gaurav Kenkre, Chairman, ICAI, Goa Branch & CA Vinayak Dhumatkar, Committee member, ICAI, Goa Branch.

The first Speaker CA Vinayak Dhumatkar commenced the session by introducing students about stock market. He then covered in detail the various aspects of stock market trading and made awareness amongst students about various components of investing in stocks. The second Resource Person CA Gaurav Kenkre explained the students about various ITR forms available for different tax payers and what are the practical difficulty while filing ITR returns online. He also explained the students about concept of GST in India and its working mechanism.

It was an interactive session as the Resource Persons addressed several queries related to students. The session was coordinated by Associate professor Dr. Edwin Barreto, Asst. Professor Gajanan B. Haldankar, Asst. Professor Ainsley Bernard & Asst. Professor Marjina Shaikh. The session was attended by 86 students.

TechTrendz Activity- Tech Quizzards

The Future Skills Group of the TechTrendz club of the Department of Computer Science organized a quiz competition Tech Quizzards for its BCA and B.Voc.(ST) students on Saturday, 9th April 2022 from 4:00 pm to 5.00 pm in the College premises.

The members of the organizing team were the students of SY BCA (Div. A & B) – Mr. Lachlan Vas, Ms. Duena Cabral, Mr. Thanfir Ali, Ms. Arpitha Hegde, Ms. Ashrita Hegde, Mr. Delwyn Fernandes, Ms. Lovely Ramchandani, Mr. Nesmond Fernandes, Mr. Sherwin Rodrigues, Ms. Khushi Prabhudessai and Mr. Ezekiel Rodrigues.

The quiz was conducted in 3 rounds to test the knowledge on cloud computing, cyber security, basic AI and networking.  Round 1 was general quiz comprised of MCQs followed by crossword and rapid fire in round 2 and 3 respectively. Participants were allowed to answer all the rounds.16 students (2 per team) participated in the quiz. Round 1, out of 8 teams 5 teams qualified for round 2 where 3 teams entered in final round. The participants were issued E-certificates. The winners of Tech Quizzards were:

Head of the Computer Science Department Mr. Sumit Kumar was also present during the conduct of the event. Ms. Mervia Andrade and Ms. Antara Dessai provided the required help for the event.

One Day State Level Workshop on “ Agriculture & Livelihood”

The Department of Economics of S.S Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Bambolim Goa organized a One Day State Level Workshop on ‘Agriculture & Livelihood’ on 5th April, 2022. The objective of the workshop was to impart hands on knowledge on farming and   modern developments and changes in recent years.

The workshop began with the Welcome Address by the Principal Dr. Radhika S. Nayak. Dr Amita Sanburg, Asst. Prof. introduced the speakers of the workshop. The first speaker, Dr Pradip Sarmokadam highlighted 4 dimensions of healthy living. He also spoke on the fact that indigenous seeds of different varieties of rice, pulses, vegetables and fruits are deteriorating inGoa. The State’s first brand “Govan” is helping the small and marginal farmers to restore the richness of our state.

Speakersfor second session was a young ‘agripreneur’ couple Mr. Vandit Naik and Mrs Priyanka Vandit Naik owner of “RasRaj” farms, Mollem. They shared their experiences of organic farming and how they have planned their farm. At the end of their session they gave a live demonstration of mango grafting and air layering.

The third speaker was Mr. Chinmay Tanshikar owner of organic spice farm and bee keeping at Sanguem. He highlighted the need of farming, also laid stress on cultivation of multi crops.  He shared his experiences of vanilla cultivation.

The fourth speaker was Ms. Lizia Pinheiro who runs a consultancy firm “Fruits of Hardwork”.  She provides services to people with respect to kitchen gardening. She in an inspiration to many as she promotes cultivation for the ones who have limited piece of land.

All speakers highlighted the importance of organic production and shared their experiences. The workshop was highly appreciated by the participants.

Lastly, Asst. Prof. Ram Gaonkar proposed the Vote of Thanks. A Session on National Career Service Portal and State Employment Exchange Registration

The Career and Placement Cell in association with the Regional Employment Exchange, Office of Commission Labour and Employment, Government of Goa organised a session on National Career Service Portal and State Employment Exchange Registration on April 4, 2022, for the registered members of the Cell.The Resource Persons for the session were Ms. Deepa Dumatkar (Assitant Professor at Rosary College of Commerce and Arts) and Mr. Antony Afonso (Employment Officer Government of Goa)

Ms. Deepa Dumatkar began the session with a video on “3 Idiots.” The message it conveyed was to “pursue your dream and do what you want.” It also stated that students should focus on the positive aspects and avoid the negative aspects, as students tend to lose their confidence and it reflects their career. She highlighted that career development is not a single day task; it’s an oceangoing process. SWOT analysis is another important aspect that was covered by the speaker, She said the students should know their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and treats that would emerge in the future and take appropriate measures.

Ms. Antony Afonso employment officer gave briefing on the employment card registration. The process of application on Goa online portal (goaonline.gov.in) was demonstrated. He also logged in into the website and also specified the documents required for registration.

The session ended with a question and answer session at around 12:15 p.m. 82 students attended the session.

E-quiz: National Maritime Day

The NCC Naval Wing organized an online quiz on ‘National Maritime Day ’. The quiz was open for the students, faculty members and the general public. The objective of the quiz was to celebrate the National Maritime Day. The participants who scored 60% and above were issued E-Certificates instantly. The quiz link was kept opened from 5th April- 15th April, 2022. 100 participants from all over India answered the online quiz, 85 participants got the e-certificate.  The quiz was coordinated by Asst. Prof Ms. Pretty Louiza Pereira, CTO NCC Navy.

5th Edition V.M. Salgaocar Memorial Inter-Collegiate T10 Cricket Tournament Winners

V.M. Salgaocar College of Law in collaboration with GCA (Goa Cricket Association) Organizes 5th Edition V.M. Salgaocar Memorial Inter-collegiate T10 Cricket Tournament from 06th April to 09th April 2022 at Goa University Ground- Taleigao Goa.

16 Colleges across the State participated in this Tournament. VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics Margao-Goa also took part in this T10 Cricket Tournament.

In the First round we played against the Dhempe College and won the match with the score of 107 runs Mr. Omkar Desh Bhandari remained not out on 55 runs and was awarded Man of the Match. After defeating Dhempe College in the first round, in quarters we played against Pharmacy College and won by 9 wickets, chasing 48 runs. Man of the Match was awarded to Mr. Saiesh Satardekar who took 2 wickets in the match.

In Semi finals, batting first we scored 120 runs against Government College Pernem & restricted them at 83 runs. Mr. Manthan Khutkar was declared as Man of the match for his tremendous inning of 85 runs and not out. After defeating Government College Pernem, we played finals against Dempo College, defeating them by 8 Wickets after chasing 71 runs. Mr. Mohit Redkar was declared Man of the Match with the score of 20 runs not out and 1 wicket. Mr. Shubham Gajinkar was declared as the Best Bowler of the Tournament.

VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics Margao-Goa bagged the Winner’s trophy of 5th Edition of V.M. Salgaocar Memorial Inter-collegiate T10 Cricket Tournament organized by V.M. Salgaocar College of Law in collaboration with GCA (Goa Cricket Association).

Mr. Saurabh Raikar Instructor in Physical Education was the Coach, Ajinkya Kudtarkar College Director of Physical Education & Sports was the Manager of the team and Mr. Digesh Raikar was the captain of the team. Mr. Vikram Verlekar Chairman, Sports Council Vidya Vikas Mandal and Prof. Prita Mallya, Principal of the College congratulated the team, Captain, Coach and the Manger.
