Students Seminar

The Commerce club of Department of Commerce & Management of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized Students Seminar cum Paper presentation Competition on 27th May 2022 at 9:00am in the Skill Development Center. The themes for the seminar were as follows:
1. Skill India – A tool for reshaping Indian Economy.
2. Emerging trends in Entrepreneurship.
3. Green initiatives and development.
The Inaugural Programme commenced at 9.00 am. The Principal, Prof. Prita D Mallya welcomed the judges, faculty members and students for the competition and congratulated the Department of Commerce and Management for successfully organizing the students’ seminar for 4 consecutive years. The Convenor of the Commerce Club Ms. Preksha Chopdekar gave a brief overview of the Commerce Club activities and the Students Seminar. Asst. Prof Marjina Shaikh, member of the Commerce Club introduced the Judges. The judges for the seminar were Ms. Tanvi Keny Assistant Professor, Government College of Commerce & Economics, Borda and Mr. Shekhar Vasudev Sawant Assistant Professor, Swami Vivekanand Vidyaprasarak Mandal College of Commerce Borim Ponda Goa. Principal presented a token of gratitude and appreciation to the judges. The competition commenced at 9.30 am.
08 teams comprising of 24 students participated in the seminar. Each team was guide by two teachers from the Department. The seminar is an initiative take by the department to give practical exposure of the changing business scenario, enabling the students to showcase their presentation skills and to inculcate research habits among them.
The Valedictory Fiction began at 12:00pm. The participants were asked to give feedback about the competition, followed by judges’ feedback.

The outgoing Secretary of the Commerce Club handed over the charge to Ms. Koel Jana student of FY B.Com as the new Secretary of the Commerce Club. The prize distribution for the event was done in the hands of Vice Principal Dr. Rodney D’silva and Dr. Shami Pai, Head of Department of Commerce & Management. Mr. Jackson Rodrigues, Secretary of Commerce Club proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Fine Arts Club

The Fine Arts Club of the Cultural Council conducted Creativity Workshop themed ‘A Creative Spark 2.0’ on 25th May, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. till 02:00 p.m. in Classroom No.206
The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Tanisi Sinai Kakodkar, Partner, PaperMint, Margao, Goa. The objective of the workshop was to provide platform for enhancing creative thinking and nourishing creativity skills in students.
The workshop began with an Inaugural session. Vice Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva, in her speech, motivated the participants of the workshop. Ms. Tanisi initiated the session with the concept of creativity highlighting on the relationship between creativity and capacity building. She divided the workshop into two sessions; the first session focused on Bottle painting in a simpler and quicker manner while the second session focused on an innovate and creative paper quilling.
67 students from BCom, BCA and BBA(FS) programmes actively participated in the workshop. All the participants opined that both the sessions of the workshop were highly involving and rewarding. They appreciated the activity and requested to conduct a similar workshop on calligraphy in the upcoming semester.
The workshop was conducted by Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar, Assistant Professors in Commerce. Mr. Jackson Rodriguez, General Secretary, along with five student members of the Cultural Council assisted in conducting the workshop. Ms. Falguni Khatri compered for the inaugural session and proposed the Vote of Thanks. E- Certificates were provided to all the participants.

Webinar on ‘Building Your Future Through BBA: Exploring The Ocean of Opportunities’

The BBA(FS) Department organized a Webinar on “Building Your Future through BBA: Exploring the Ocean of Opportunities” for the prospective students intending to pursue BBA Programme at VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics on 25th May 2022 from 12:15 p.m. to 12.45 p.m. via Google Meet platform. The main objective of the session was to acquaint the students on the prospective career opportunities after completing the BBA Programme.

The Resource person for the session was Mrs. Rina Barreto Shankar, Communication Coach and Founder of Cheree Tree Concepts. Assistant Professor Racheal Goes welcomed and introduced the Resource Person.

Mrs. Rina Barreto Shankar commenced the session with an introduction on the importance of choosing the right educational degree in order to build up the dream career. She provided an overview on the fifteen most common occupational expectations among the 15-year-olds as per OECD survey. Further she highlighted the employable skills and some of the courses that students would be learning after getting admitted for the BBA Programme. Thereafter she acquainted the students about career opportunities in various sectors and various job positions such as financial analyst, human resource manager, market research analyst, marketing manager etc. available to them after completing the BBA Programme. She concluded the session by addressing the queries of the students.

45 students attended the session. The session ended at 12:45 p.m. with a Vote of Thanks. The session was compered and coordinated by Asst. Prof. Racheal Goes.

Poster Making Competition

The Students’ Council organized a Poster-Making competition on the topic “31 ways to Joy of Giving” on 18th May 2022. The objective of the competition was to provide the students with a platform to showcase their artistic talent and hone their skills in this area. 9 students participated in the competition. The competition witnessed spectacular insights into its theme by the participants. The posters were judged on the basis of creativity/ artistic composition, relevance to the theme, and overall presentation.

The first place was bagged by Ms. Naira Shaikh of SY B.Com (D), second place by Mr. Nishant Heggannavar of FY B.Com (D), and third place by Mr. Mizba Shaikh of FY B.Com (D).

The judges for the competition were, Ms. Samiksha Vengurlekar, Ms. Marjina Shaikh, and Ms. Meher Rodrigues.

The Faculty in-charge of the event was Ms. Lizette D’Costa, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics & Banking.

Student Participation in Virtual Certification Programme

The National Securities and Depository Limited, Mumbai in collaboration with its knowledge partner ‘Poornatha’, organised ‘Market Ka Eklavya’ – Certification Programme for students. The programme is a specially designed to engage the students and students introduce them to the Securities Market. The programme aims to provide students with the basic financial knowledge and skills at a young age.

The webinar was conducted through the Zoom platform on 18th May 2022 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm. The topic for the virtual program was ‘Basics of Stock Investment’. 39 students from BBA(FS) Department attended the webinar.

Mr. Ashutosh Naik, Chief Compliance Officer at Groww: Stocks & Mutual Fund commenced the session by explaining the early investments in the stock market. Mr. Dilip Kumar Sharma, the session facilitator, then explained the basics of stock investment, covering topics such as types of income and investment, the impact of inflation, the power of compounding, primary and secondary markets, market intermediaries, DEMAT accounts, etc.

At the end of the course, participants received e-certificates from NSDL. The session was co-ordinated by Asst. Prof. Trisha Vadil.

Blogging Workshop

The Department of English & Communication organised a Workshop on Blogging on 16th May, 2022 from 11:15 am – 12:30 pm via Google Meet platform and was streamed live on the College YouTube channel. The session was conducted for the students of F.Y.B.Com. The Resource Person for the workshop wasDr. S Susan Deborah, In charge Department of English, MES College of Arts & Commerce. 180 students from FY BCom attended the session.

The aim of the workshop was to acquaint students with the nuances of Blogging its importance and uses in the modern times.

The workshop began with a welcome address by Ms Samiksha Vengurlekar, Assistant Professor in English. The workshop was well divided into two sessions. For set induction the students were tested for their previous knowledge on Blogging.  The speaker insisted on making the session an interactive one. For part one, through a PowerPoint presentation students were elucidated the importance, types, benefits and areas of Blogging. At the end of the session the participants clarified their doubts with the Resource Person.

For the second session, the question ‘why should one open a blog’ was addressed. This session proved to be more of a practice session where in five different blogging sites viz. Blogger, WordPress, Vix, Medium, Tumblr were suggested. Being an alluring blogger she demonstrated her own Blog sites to the audience, sharing her own experience in blogging. Students were also suggested different topics to start a blog, with the help of a few highly recommended blogs on the internet. She also suggested ways to make the blog attractive by adding photos and videos, followed by the demonstration of the same.

The Resource Person also enlightened them on how they can earn through blogging if they have about a million followers. The sessions were interactive and the Resource Person could keep the participants engaged till the end. All the queries raised by the students were answered to the best of their satisfaction.

The session was compered by Brionna Noronha, Student of FYBCom Div C and Ms. Pragati Raikar, Student of FYBCom Div C proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Niti Samvaad 3.0

The College organized Niti Samvaad 3.0, a National Under-Graduate Student Colloquium and Competition on 14th May 2022 from 8.30a.m. – 2.30 pm via (Google Meet) platform. “Niti-Samvaad” translates as Policy Dialogues and was contemplated as a ground for discourse on policy-making aimed at providing a national platform to students across the country to publicly present their independent and informed views on policy issues concerning the Indian Economy. The two themes of the Niti Samvaad 3.0,  2022 were as follows:

The Inaugural session began with the Invocation song followed by the Welcome address by the Principal Prof. Prita Mallya, in her address Dr. Mallya remarked that Niti Samvaad as the name suggests aims at providing a platform for the students who are nothing less than the students of metro cities when it comes to intellectual discourses and discussions. This Colloquium is the first progressive step that is purely academic and encourages students to build confidence to formulate their opinions on issues of relevance with respect to India and its economy. She welcomed the Chief Guest and the participants for the Colloquium.

Dr. Anjali Sajilal, the Convenor for Niti Samvaad presented the framework and the overview of the Colloquium. Ms. Snehal Alve introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Amin Ladak, Chairman – Goa Management Association. Mr Ladak in his animated address highlighted the progressive change the country is witnessing in the contemporary times. He opined that, change is the only constant and students are an instrument which bring about the necessary change for a country to evolve constantly, so keeping this in mind the Alma Mater should give its students the required push to bring out their true potential and brilliant ideas. Dr Ladak congratulated and appreciated the College for its thoughtfulness and foresightedness in kindling the spirit of research in the young minds. He remarked that event such as this should be organize by Colleges all over the country.

Ms Cinola Vaz briefed the audience about the proceeding of the event and introduced the Jury members for the Technical Presentation Round.

Dr. Ashulekha Gupta, Professor of Management and Economics in the Department of Management Studies at Graphic Era deemed to be University, Dehradun, Uttarkhand, India. Mr. D. S. Prashant, CEO of FiiRE incubator.

The Technical Presentation Round began at 9.00 a.m.  The participants were briefed about the rules and regulation of paper presentation. The teams were strategically named as Team 1 the Path finders, Team 2 Modernizers, Team 3 Reformers and Team 4 Pace-setters.

The competition was divided into three rounds. For Round 1, Technical Presentation Round -for this round participants were asked to present a research paper. Team 1 the Path Finders presented a paper on the Topic ‘Green Entrepreneurship: Encouraging Youth and their Behavioral attitudes towards Green start-ups’. Team 2 the Modernizers presented on the topic ‘Impact of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana on Employbility   of Youth in the State of Goa – An Empirical Study’. Team 3 Reformers presented on the topic ‘Green Retail Marketing’and Team 4 the Pace Setters presented on the topic Skill India Challenges and the way forward’. At the end of the round judges asked questions to the participants and gave valuable suggestions. Lastly, they congratulated  organizers and expressed their satisfaction with the involvement and consciousness of today’s youths in Sustainable development and Policy framework.

Ms Ashwini Devari moderated round 2 – A Non Technical Presentation round. For this round the participants were asked to present their technical write-up, in layman’s language to judges Ms. Ranjita Sandesh Pai and Dr. Nitish Devdatta Kerkar. After the presentations of each team the participant were asked questions and were for speaking their minds freely.

Round 3 – Panel Discussion was moderated by Dr. Maithili Naik. For this round the Guiding Teachers of three qualifying teams namely – Path Finders, Modernizers and Reformers had a panel discussion with the Industry experts – CA Vikas Singh, Axis Burgundy Private Banking and Mr Ashfaq Shah. The jury members for this round were Adv. Janaki Shinkre and Mr Rayes Efthie, Senior Partner – Axis Burgundy Private Banking. The panelist had a vivacious and a fruitful discussion revolving around the theme of the colloquium making it a prolific exercise.

Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar, Co-Cordinator of the event presented the report of the event and announced the award winners. The participants expressed their gratitude towards the organizers for providing them a platform to express their ideas and thoughts. The jury members also applauded the College for their efforts in organizing the Colloquium.

Theatre Workshop

Theatre Workshop on the topic “Mimes” was organized by the Cultural Council from 11th to 14thMay 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm in the Skill Development centre. 4 students participated in the workshop. Resource Persons for the session wasMr Avadhoot Sahakari, Theatre artist and Instructor, Department of Art and Culture, Goa.

Day 1. Date: 11th May 2022

Session started with the introduction of the Resource Person by Ms Vinaya Kirloskar, Asst Prof in Commerce. The Resource Person began with the Introduction to mime, warm-up exercises and movement related to mime. Discussion was held about how to develop story, spot improvisation, how to react on music with story was taught. Students practiced on recorded music.

Day 2.  Date :12th May 2022 No session was held in the view of Damodar Utsav

Day 3: Date: 13th May 2022

Session began with warm-up exercises related to mime and movements, followed by discussion about different types of makeup for mime and improvisation. New theme was given to the participants. Practice continued for final day performance. Students were guided on how to choose background music for mime.

Day 4: Date: 14th May 2022

Final day of mime workshop commenced with a warm-up exercises, discussion about how to get ready for performance. Importance of costumes was illustrated. Details about makeup was practically shown.

On this day the participants performed two mimes, “Nani ki kahani” and movement based performance “Khel Mandala”.

Workshop concluded with a brief discussion on performances put up by the participants. The participants shared their feedback about the workshop.  Ms Rama Borkar, workshop in-charge proposed the Vote of Thanks

Damodar Utsav

The Students’ Council held one-day Damodar Utsav for students of all programs on 12th May 2022. Onstage and offstage competitions were held simultaneously from 8.30am to 2.00pm. The offstage events were; Rangoli, Face Painting and Wordsworth. While the onstage events were; Dance competition, Fashion Show and Mr. & Ms. Damodar 2022.

Below are the details of each event;

1) Rangoli Competition

Date: 12th May 2022          Timing: 8.30am -10.30 am

Venue: Quadrangle

Details of Participants: 08 teams (16 participants) (15 Female, 01 Male)

The Floral Rangoli competition, an off-stage event was held in the college quadrangle. The competition was open for all students across all the programmes. Around 08 teams participated for the same. The event started sharp at 8.30 am. The student coordinators for this event were Ms. Anisha D’Souza and Mr. Ved Borkar, students of M. Com Part I. The theme for the competition was ‘Festivals of India’. The competition was organized to explore and encourage creativity in the students and offer them a platform to promote their artistic excellence. This fun-filled competition witnessed an enthusiastic participation from all the students. The Judges for the competition were Dr. Anjali Sajilal, Asst Prof. (B.Com.) and Ms. Snehal Jadhav, Asst. Prof BBA(FS). The judges evaluated each entry on the basis of relevance to the given theme, originality, creativity, uniqueness, neatness and overall presentation. 08 teams participated in the competition.

The winners were as follows:

Second Place: Ms. Anisha Nadkarni and Ms. Ashwini Kalal (S.Y.B.Com)

2) Face Painting Competition

Date: 12th May 2022                           Time:   08:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Venue: College Smart Classroom

Details of participants: 15 teams of students (14 females, 16 males)

Face Painting competition was held in the college Smart Classroom. The objective of the competition was to provide the students with a platform to showcase their artistic skills and talent and get an opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities necessary for holistic development.  The theme for the competition was “Halloween”.  15 teams of two members each, participated in the competition. The competition witnessed an array of artistic talent displayed by the participants. The face-painted were judged on the basis of relevance to the theme, creativity, originality, artistic composition, and overall presentation. The first place for the competition was bagged by Mr. Nishant Heggannavar and Mr. Sanatan Tarai of FY B.Com (D). The second place went to Ms. Aemisha Azavedo of SY B.Com (A) and Mr. Alrich Fernandes of SY B.Com (C). While the third place was bagged by Mr. Sathvik Satardekar and Mr. Vibhav Bhagat of FY B.Com (D). The judges for the competition were Ms. Meher Rodrigues and Ms. Amba Prabhu. The teacher coordinator for the event was Ms. Lizette D’Costa, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics & Banking, and the students in charge were Mr. Aditya Joshi and Mr. Aryan Shaikh.

3) Wordsworth competition

Date: 12th May 2022          Venue: Time: 8:30 am to 10:00 am

Venue: College Smart Classroom

Details of Participants Attended: 49 Students

Off-stage event Wordsworthwas divided into 3 rounds. The participants were given 2 words and they were supposed to make multiple words within the time frame of 4 minutes. For round two again two words were given with time duration of 2 minutes. For the final round top nine participants were selected and only one word was given and 45 seconds. Ms Ashwini Devari Assistant professor in Financial Service was teacher in charge for the event. Ms Saniya Kadar and Joshita Fernandes student from SYBBA(FS) and FYBBA(FS) were in charge for the competition. The winners were – Vaishani Gaokar TYBCOM(C) – First Place, Siddhi MCOM- II – Second Place and Vanessa Carrasco MCOM- I –Third Place

4) Dance Competition

Date: 12th May 2022          Venue: Time: 10:30 am to 12:00 pm

Venue: Multipurpose Hall

Details of Participants Attended:  14 Teams

The dance competition was on stage event which was held in the multipurpose hall. The dance competition was into two categories: Solo and Group.  Students participated in large numbers in the dance competition and presented different dance forms. The judges for the event were Ms Trisha Vadil Assistant professor in Commerce and Ms Rama Borkar Assistant Professor Computer Science. Ms Ashwini Devari Assistant professor in Financial Service and Sneha Prabhudessai were teacher in charge for the event Ms Saniya Kadar and Joshita Fernandes student from SYBBA(FS) and FYBBA(FS) were in charge for the competition. The first place for the solo dance went to Sahil Khanvilkar of SY B.Com (A), second place went to Roshni Khatun of TY B.Com (B) and third place went to Anand Chauhan of of SY B.Com (D). For the Duo round, the first place was bagged by Abigale Pujari and Jeslin FernandesFYBBA(FS) A. While for the group dance Prasanna Vengurlekar, Shreya Naik, Rohini Kamat and Shama Kharangate of SY B.Com.

5) Fashionista (Fashion Show)

Date: 12th May 2022               Timing: 11.30a.m. – 12.30 pm

Venue:Multipurpose Hall

Fashion show was an off-stage event held in the college multipurpose hall. Teams of students comprising of 8 to 12 members were allowed to participate in this event. The competition started with the introduction of judges. Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Asst. Professor in Commerce and Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, Director of Physical Education were invited as the judges for the competition. The students selected various themes like Bollywood, Mat-gala, Bollywood v/s Hollywood, etc. Altogether 6 teams participated in this event. The teams consisted of students from all programmes. All the students enthusiastically performed in the competition and it ended with the judges’ final comments on each performance. The event was coordinated by Students Council Members – Ms. Koel Jana – Divisional Representative of FY BCom C, Ms. Shaleen DSilva – Divisional Representative of FY BCom B and Aditi Satardekar Divisional Representative of FY BCom D and the Teacher incharge for the competition was Miss Sushrusha Naik Khandekar, Assistant Professor in Commerce. The team Alchemist won the 1st Place in this competition. Team Action Replay won the second placeand Team Falcons won the third place. The first place for Fashion Show went to team ‘Alchemists’ comprising Eshwar Gupta, Prathamesh Dessai, Smruti Kudnekar, Darren Coutinho, Aarti Mishra, Musheet Bhat, Sailee Majrekar, Kunal Singh, Vaishnavi Sawal, Disha Dessai, and Disha Dessai. The second place went to team ‘Action Replay’ comprising Alizia Clara Fernandes, Sofia Gauncar, Simran Colaco, Minoshca Dias, Falusha Fernandes, Ryan Ferrao, Wendell Silva, Anrich Rodrigues, Alrich Fernandes, Peter Fernandes, Jesley Colaco, Jovino Da Costa and Dina Pacheco. The third place went to team ‘Falcons’ comprising Falguni Khatri, Melbourne Pinto, Girishma Rotangar, Atharva Naik, Rohini Lotulkar, Ayush Kale, Sumayya, Vivek Singh, Harsha, Mhamadhasm Bilal Mulla, Darren Dias, Vaidhaiyee Patekar and Kamini Singh.

6) Mr. & Ms. Damodar 2022 “Lord & Lady”

Date: 12th May 2022               Timing: 12:30 p.m. – 01:30 pm

Venue: Multipurpose Hall

Details of Participants: 13 participants (08 Females and 05 Males)

The objective of the event ‘Lord & Lady’ was to provide students with an opportunity to present their skills and talents and increase their self-confidence and learn beyond academics to face the challenges of life. The student coordinators for this event were Ms. Shine D’Souza and Ms. Simren Mascarenhas student of T.Y B.Com and the faculty In-charge were Ms. Lizette D’Costa, Assistant Professor in Economics and Ms. Pooja Shanbhag, Assistant Professor in Commerce. The competition was open to all the students of the college. The competition was based on three rounds. Participants qualifying these two rounds were further selected for the final (third) round. The participants were judged on the following criteria:

Winning the title holds immense responsibility and is looked upon as a role model by the others. So, for the second round, the participants were requested to showcase their talent or unique skills to the audience. The judging criteria for the first 2 rounds were vocabulary, confidence, poise, personality and overall performance. Top three participants scoring highest score in round one and two got a chance to participate for the final round. Here the candidates were judged for their intelligence, communication skills and their response to the questions asked by the respective judges. The judges for the event were Dr. Maithili Naik, Faculty B.Com dept and Mr. Mayuresh Adsul, Faculty BBA(FS) dept.  All the participants remained enthusiastic throughout the program. The creativity of the students was much appreciated by the judges.  Mr. Damodar Title (Lord) was awarded to Mr. Jackson Fernandes, while Ms. Damodar title (Lady) was bagged by Ms. Roshni Khatun, both students of T.Y B.Com. (B). The competition was a successful attempt in providing students with a platform to showcase their multifarious talents.

Damodar USTAV 2022- WordsWorth competition’

The Students Council organised Damodar USTAV on 12th May 2022 from 8:30 to 10:00 am.  There were 3 off stage Mainly Wordsworth. Floral Rangoli and Face Painting and three on stage events Dance, Fashion Show and Mr and Mrs Damodar.

One of the Off stage event was Wordworth. The event was divided into 3 rounds. The participants were given 2 words and they were asked to make multiple words within the time frame of 4 minutes. For round two again two words were given with time duration of 2 minutes. For the final round there were top nine participants were selected and they were one words and 45 seconds of time duration to make multiple words.

Ms Ashwini Devari Assistant professor in Financial Service was teacher in charge for the event Ms Saniya Kadar and Joshita Fernandes student from SYBBA(FS) and FYBBA(FS)  were in charge for the competition.
