‘Presentations on Summer Training’

The P.G. Department of Commerce (M.Com) organized ‘Presentations on Summer Training’ on 30th July 2022.Inorder to become eligible for admission to second year M.Com course, every student has to undergo a four weeks Summer Training in commercial and industrial organizationsat the end of Semester II. The main objective of the Summer Training is to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical exposure.

The Presentations commenced with a brief overview on importance of internship and its requirement for M.Com Programme given by Asst. Prof. Seema Dharani. A total of 26 students presented on their respective job experiences and learning acquired in various organizations such as Government Offices (such as Office of Directorate of Accounts); Commercial and Industrial Organizations (such as Kanaks Safety Equipment, Manish Electronics); Financial Consultants (such as Financial Wisdom, Shreeji Investments), Business Management Consultants (such as Kakode Consultancy Ltd.), Resort (such as Lalit Golf and Spa Resort); Bank (such as HDFC Bank) and other similar organizations. Students presented on various tasks performed at the organizations such as service card handling,maintenance of audit books, stock markets analysis, performance analysis of mutual funds, handling social media pages, documentation, gaining knowledge of mutual funds and insurance products and general office work. Four students completed their internship with MOU Accosphere, Certified Public Accountants, Margao, where they performed the tasks of preparation of financial statements, e-Filing of returns, calculation of capital gains and other tax related work.A student cum entrepreneur along with another student performed the activities of expansion of candle business of Golden Flames by marketing the products at various Resorts and establishments.

Students gained hands on experience at the business organizations and government offices. Experiencing the corporate working environment, improvement in communication skills, gaining of confidence for future endeavors, understanding the need for continuous learning and skill enhancements were the major Learning Outcomes of the Summer Internship Programme. The Presentations ended at 2.30 p.m.

A total of 26 M. Com Part-II students presented their work. Asst. Prof. Seema Dharani, along with other faculty members, Asst. Prof. Twinkle Fernandes and Asst. Prof. Valencia Baptista were present.

Certificate Course – Programming in Python (For Non-CS Students)

The Department of Computer Science designed and conducted a 15-hour certificate training on the topic “Programming in Python” for non-CS students. Its aim was to provide basic programming knowledge to the students who wish to learn programming.

Unit 1 Introduction to Programming Concepts, Writing Algorithms and drawing Flowcharts.
Unit 2 Introduction to data, concept of variables and their scope, different operators, and their usage.
Unit 3 Introduction to Python as a programming language and using PyCharm

Unit 5 Conditional Statements
Unit 6 Looping Constructs: While loop
Unit 7 Looping Constructs: For loop
Unit 8 Python for Data Science
This certificate course was conducted as part of the inter-departmental activity by Department of Computer Science from 22nd June to 29th June 2022 from 8 AM to 10.00 AM. Assistant Professors of the Department Ms. Ankita Naik, Ms. Rama Borkar and Mr. Sameer Patil were the resource persons for the training sessions. All the participants acquired the basic knowledge of Python programming through coding & debugging process and completed following topics.
They also visualized and understood the importance of Python programming in the field of data science. The training session culminated with an assessment and feedback process in which all participants earned an e-certificate.
The overall response to the sessions was positive and quite encouraging. The participants have suggested to organize similar certificate courses in the near future. The course was successfully completed by 10 first year B.Com students. This activity was a joint effort by the Department of Computer Science and the IT Department of the B.Com programme. The teacher in charge of this certificate course was Mr. Sumit Kumar, Head of the Department – Computer Science Department.

TechTrendz Prize Distribution Function

The TechTrendz club of Department of Computer Science organized the prize distribution function for all the competitions held for the academic year 2021-22. The function was compered by the SY BCA-A student Ms. Duena Cabral, followed by the TechTrendz report reading by Mr. Prithvi Shirodkar, SY BCA-B student. Principal, Dr. Prita D. Mallya gave valuable insights to the students on this occasion. Principal, Vice-Principal, HODs, Program Coordinators handed over the Prizes and certificates to the winners of all the competitions under the TechTrendz. The Event Coordinators gave certificates to the student organizers. All the participants were issued E-Certificates.
Nine competitions were successfully organised under the TechTrendz in this academic year, in which a total of 133 students participated in the activities. Mr. Prathamesh Dessai from TY BCA was announced as the Tech-Wizard for 2021-2022. The Best Logo Designer Certificate and Prize was given to Mr. Rakesh Pujari from SY B.Voc(ST). The Best Tech Performers from each class were selected. They were issued certificates and Prizes. Given below is the list of the awardees:

The main student organizers of this function were students Ms. Duena Cabral from SYBCA-A, Mr. Prithvi Shirodkar and Ms. Lovely Ramchandani from SY BCA-B, Ms. Cliffton Andrade from FY BCA-A, Ms. Unnata Mandal from FY BCA-B and Mr. Stoline Fernandes from TY B.Voc(ST). The students were guided by Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, TechTrendz Faculty Incharge and Mr. Sumit Kumar, Head, Department of Computer Science. Smart classroom arrangements were done by faculties Ms. Ankita Naik, Ms. Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar and Mr. Andre Pacheco. Ms. Antara Dessai, Mr. Abhishek Sawant and Mr. Punarva Prabhudessai provided the necessary technical support for the smooth functioning of the event. Tech Trendz was thoroughly enjoyed by the students as it gave them a platform to showcase their unique talents. The prize distribution function was a success and the students felt a boost in their morale upon receiving prizes and certificates.

NCC Army Wing

The NCC Army Wing in association with 1 Goa BN NCC Panaji, Chowgule College and Rosary College, celebrated International Yoga Day on 21st June 2022, from 8:00 to 10:00 am at Chowgule College Campus.

The Programme began with screening of introductory video and prayer. All the participants were introduced with some loosening exercises followed by Yogasana, Shuddhi Kriya, Pranayama and Meditation were performed by the participants.They followed the Demonstration video released by Ministry of Ayush as per Yoga Protocol.
The programme ended at 10.00 amwith gratitude speech by Maj. Gunaji Dessai. Vote of Thanks proposed by Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar. 80 cadets attended the session.

8th International Day of Yoga “Yoga For Humanity”

On the occasion of International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2022, Department of Physical Education & Sports in collaboration with NSS Unit, NCC Navy Wing and Counseling Cell organized a yoga session for the staff and the students of the College at Multipurpose Hall.

The program began with Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports and Vice-Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva addressing the gathering.

The program started with Prayer followed by Warm-up exercises, Asanas, Shuddhi Kriyas (Kapalbhati), Pranayama(Anulom Vilom & Brahmari), Meditation and in the end the Pledge.

The various asanas performed were as follows:

The Demonstration session was led by Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education and a few student volunteers and explanation of demonstration was given by Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar College Director of Physical Education & Sports.

51 individuals participated out of which 30 were female and 21 were male, 28 were staff and 23 were students of the college attended the program. The program started at 8:30  and ended at 9:40 a.m.

Training Program for Staff “Physical Activity at Work Place”

The Department of Physical Education & Sports organized a Physical Activity program for staff of the College from 13th to 20th June 2022, from 8:00 to 8.30 am in the Smart Class Room. The program was organize under the theme “Physical Activity at Workplace”.  38 staff members participated in this program on regular basis. The special feature of this 30 minutes program was that it was designed to be performed on the chair in a relaxed position by the individuals and included 20 minutes Dynamic and Static stretching exercises, this was followed by 05 Minutes of breathing exercises and 05 Minutes of Meditation.

The Dynamic and Static Stretching exercises covered all the joints and Muscles. The body part focused in the exercises were Neck, Shoulder, Core, Oblique, Upper and Lower leg etc. The Breathing exercise included Kapalbhati-Shudhi Kriyas and Pranayama-Anulom Vilom. For the meditation the participants were asked to sit in a quiet position with eyes close and were instructed to focus on breathing.

The program was conducted by Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports and Mr. Saurabh Raikar Instructor in Physical Education. Prof Prita Mallya, Principal of the College provided the necessary support in conducting this event.

Workshop on Primary and Secondary Data Analysis

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce (M.Com) organized a workshop on ‘Primary and Secondary Data Analysis’ for the M.Com Part-II students to assist them with the data analysis for their dissertation on 14th May  to 3rd June 2022  from  9:00am to 1:00 pm in Skill Development Centre. Following were the Resource Persons for the Workshop.

1) Dr. Dhaneesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in Economics, Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre.

2) Dr. Kaustubh Kamat, Assistant director, Directorate of Higher Education, Goa

3) Dr. Maithili Naik, Assistant Professor in Commerce, VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics.

Dr. Dhaneesh Kumar engaged the first session for the Workshop in online mode. The topics covered by him were data analysis and uses of statistical tools and technique, certain basic concepts like skewness, kurtosis and its types, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, use and application of regression and correlation analysis etc.

For the second session, Mr. Kumar further elaborated on the methods of data analysis available for a researcher and its scope, giving practical examples.  He also explained the different ways of data tabulation, discussed the time series graphs, descriptive /summary statistics and introduced them to T-test and hypothesis testing using Gretl software. Students also learnt how to enter data and interpret results using Gretl software.

Dr. Kaustubh Kamat was the second Speaker for the workshop. In his first session he covered the importance of a normality in data, testing of normality using visual and statistical methods. He also spoke at length about parametric and non-parametric tests. Use of independent t-test, ANOVA and correlation was also covered.

In his second session, Mr. Kamat covered correlation and regression analysis in depth along with identifying type-I and type-II errors. He then went on to explain how the dependent and independent variable helps to identify the techniques to be used and the interpretation of the p-value for each test.

Dr. Maithili Naik, was the Speaker for the day 4, her session was based on secondary data analysis using E-views software. She explained the concept of moving averages and the models used to test it like AR Model, Moving average model, ARMA and ARIMA model. Dr. Naik also explained the Vector Auto Regression model (VAR) used for multiple variables. The students were taught to analyze Impulse response and Variance Decomposition Analysis along with Granger Casuality test and Spurrious Regression for non-stationary data sets especially for data related to stock market and Johansen’s cointegration test.

Overall the session was very informative and beneficial. The workshop helped the students in increasing their knowledge and understanding of research methodology and to apply the data analysis techniques in their dissertations.

7 Days Faculty Development Program on Psychometric Testing

Psychometric Test; Day 1-Interest Test

The 7 days Faculty Development Program on Psychometric Testing was organized by the Faculty Development Cell, Students’ Welfare Cell and the Counselling cell for all the Teaching Staffof the College. The first session was held in Smart Classroom on 20th May 2022 from 2pm to 3pm. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Amba Prabhu, the College Counselor. 42 faculty members attended the same.

The session was on Interest Test. Ms. Amba Prabhu focused on the topic career guidance of the mentees that can be done with the help of Interest Test. She discussed about the Concept, Role and Importance of Interest Test in the career guidance.

She also conducted a practical test on this topic.This test took around 10 minutes to complete and showed the interest of faculties in respective area in the form of a Pie chart. She also shed light on some of the qualities like Being Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising and Conventional etc.  The Welcome note and the Vote of Thanks was given by Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair. The working lunch was arranged by Dr. Lira Gama and her team.

Day 2- Psychometric Test – Emotional Intelligence Test

The second day of the 7 days FDP on Psychometric Testing was conducted on 21st May 2022, 37 faculty members attended the same. The session was held in Room No. 206. This session was on Emotional Intelligence Test. The Resource Person, Ms. Amba Prabhu started the session by making it interactive by discussing different emotions. The emotions like disgust, sadness, surprise could be identified by the facial expression, posture, hand gesture etc that portrays our feelings. She also discussed the difference between IQ and EQ.

A link was shared on teachers group for a short practical test for the teachers. The test gave a report on the four components of the emotional intelligence. Ms. Amba discussed the report with faculty members along with certain tips. The four components of emotional intelligence, the self awareness, self regulation, social awareness and relationship management were discussed with examples. It was also suggested by Ms. Amba to share the link with their respective mentees and discuss the same. The Welcome note and the Vote of Thanks was given by Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair. The working lunch was arranged by Dr. Lira Gama and her team.

Psychometric Test; Day 3-Self Esteem

The third session of the FDP was scheduled on 28th May 2022, where the topic for the session was Self-Esteem. The session began with a brief introduction of the topic by the Resource Person, Ms. Amba Prabhu, College Counsellor. 44 teaching staff attended the session.

Ms. Prabhu commenced the session by questioning the audience about existing knowledge of self-esteem. The staff members actively participated by giving their views. Proceeding further, Ms. Prabhu explained about 5 major aspects of self – esteem which are:

A sense of belonging
Feeling of completeness
How you identify yourself(identity)
Self confidence
A feeling of security

Ms. Prabhu also explained different theories of self-esteem which were developed by various school of thoughts and is linked to developing self-esteem, like:

Maslow’s need hierarchy
What affects self esteem
Our experiences

Proceeding ahead, Ms. Amba Prabhu requested to take staff the self -esteem test which was developed by Rooseberge , which was a score based test and aimed to help the staff to understand the level of the self -esteem they are at.Lastly, she also explained about Low and Excessive self- esteem.

The session came to an end by sharing tips and that one can undertake to improve the self-esteem. The staff members raised their doubts which were answered by Ms. Amba. Ms. Seema Dharani, faculty Member of Students’ Welfare Cell proposed the Vote of Thanks.

The session gave a fruitful insight to all the teachers and also it will help them to identify and inculcate the positive attitude among students for developing a balanced self -esteem. 44 teachers attended the same.

Psychometric Test: Day 4-Personality Test

This session was on Personality tests. Mr. Sanjay Velip Welcomed the Resource Person and the participants; and gave a brief up of the previous three sessions. 34 participants attended the session.

The session began with an activity for the participants. Three characters were placed on the whiteboard and the participants were told to pen down five statements on each which later formed personality of that character. Thus, the essence of how personality is formed was placed before the audience. The Counsellor listed  following characteristics of personality :

Consistency
Both psychological and physiological
Affects behaviors and actions
Multiple expressions

She introduced the concept of Personality Disorders(PD) which needs to be attended to as it causes significant distress and problems in functioning. She mentioned about the three cluster of PD as follows:

Cluster A: Odd thinking and eccentric behaviour
Cluster B: Dramatic & erratic behaviour
Cluster C: Sever anxiety and fear

In the following presentation, Ms. Amba elaborated on the following Personality Traits:

Psychoanalytic theory
Trait theory
Humanistic theory
Social cognition theory

Furthermore, a brief touch up on Defense Mechanisms were also given.  She stressed on the various behaviors and clues as to how we could address these behaviors. Several related queries were satisfactorily addressed by Ms. Amba. The session was very interactive.

Psychometric Test; Day 5-Personality Test

The Fifth day of Psychometric Testing was held on 2nd June 2022 in Class room F 102 at 12.00 noon.. This session was on Personality tests.  Asst. Prof. Poorva Gude Welcomed the Resource Person, Ms. Amba Prabhu and the participants. She gave a brief up of the previous sessions. 38 faculty members attended the same.

The session began with a recap of the previous day. Ms. Amba had a interactive session with faculty members in which she asked questions regarding Personality, Personality Disorder, and the Personality theories. Faculty members actively participated in the same.

Ms. Amba then explained the Type theories. Type theorists highlight on individual physique and temperaments. The earliest idea of type theory stems from the work of Hippocrates, who spoke of the four humors known assanguine, phlegmatic, choleric and melancholic.

She discussed the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator and the 16 personality types and explained the following aspects:

Introvert
E-Extravert
T -Thinking
F-Feeling
N- Intuition
S- Sensing
P- Perceiving
J- Judging

Ms. Amba introduced the concept of Trait Theories.  A relatively stable characteristic that causes individuals to behave in certain ways. She explained the difference between Type theories and Trait theories with several examples.

Faculty members answered the online Personality Test. Dr. Sheetal Arondekar shared the link of the test with faculty members. Ms. Amba then explained how to interpret the test result based on Big Five Factors which are as follows:

Openness
Conscientiousness
Extraversion
Agreeableness
Neuroticism

Asst. Prof. Poorva Gude proposed the Vote of Thanks. The session ended at 01:10 pm.

Psychometric Test: Day 6- Discussion

The sixth session of the Seven Days FDP on Psychometric Testing was conducted on 3rd June 2022. The session began at 8:30 am.

The session was a recap of the previous five sessions held on: Career Test, Emotional Intelligence test, Self Esteem test and Personality test.  The Counsellor quoted examples of those who had suffered from personality disorders and its influence on others.  She also spoke on the impact of social media on the mental health of the students and how as mentors we can play a role to help them come out of such an addiction.  She advised the mentors to explore the areas of self-esteem amongst the mentees.  The session ended at 9:35 am. 34 faculty members attended the same.

Psychometric Test; Day 7-Self-Assessment Test

The seventh session and the last day of the Seven Days FDP on Psychometric Testing was conducted on 06th June, 2022 from 8:00a.m.- 09: 00a.m. in New building, room No.F-102. The topic of this session was on Self-Assessment Test.  Asst. Prof. Racheal Goes welcomed the Resource Person and the participants and gave a brief up of the previous sessions.

Ms. Amba Prabhu began the session with an overview on the self-assessment test and stated that the test will help the participants to know where they stand and which area they need to improve upon. She highlighted the instructions for completion of the test, summary chart and the action summary. She elaborated that the self-assessment test is divided into six areas of responsibility which are further sub-divided into several major statements and each of these statements were to be evaluated by the participants using the following scale:

5 – Excellent

4- Very good

4- Good

2- Fair

1 – Poor

She briefed on each of the statements listed in the following six areas of responsibility of the self-assessment test.

Teaching Strategies
Classroom Management
Subject Competence and Professional Growth
Interpersonal Relationships
Contribution to the Total School Effort

She further conducted an activity in which the participants were asked to score themselves using the scale for each of the statements listed in the six areas responsibility of the self-assessment test questionnaire. On the completion of the test, she advised the participants to identify and work on areas for improvements wherever needed. Several related queries were satisfactorily addressed by Ms. Amba The session was very interactive.

Ms. Racheal Goes, gave a brief up of the session and proposed the Vote of Thanks.  The session ended at 09:00 a.m.

Webinar on Exploring The Roadmap Towards Career Opportunities in the Financial Services Sector

The BBA(FS) Department organized a Webinar on “Exploring the Roadmap towards Career Opportunities in the Financial Services Sector” for the prospective students intending to pursue BBA(FS) Programme on 28th May 2022 from 04:00 to 04:30 p.m. using the Google Meet platform. The main objective of the session was to familiarize the students about the potential career opportunities after completing the BBA(FS) Programme.
The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Priyanka Shiraly, Manager, Research & Surveillance, The Clearing Corporation of India Limited, Mumbai. Assistant Professor Racheal Goes welcomed and introduced the Resource Person.
Ms. Priyanka Shiraly began the session with an overview of the Financial Service Industry. Further she briefed about the versatile career options in the finance industry in areas such as financial planning, banking, corporate finance and insurance. She elaborated on various distinctive career options in financial markets such as managing trading platforms, risk management, collateral management, clearing and settlement and trading surveillance. She also acquainted the students on the emerging careers in Fintech and advised the students to build their skills in such careers. Thereafter she highlighted on the traits required to build up a successful career in the financial sector. She concluded the session by addressing the queries of the students.
40 students attended the session. The session ended at 04:30 p.m. with a Vote of Thanks. The session was compered and coordinated by Asst. Prof. Racheal Goes.

Tech-Day

The Computer Science Department organized a Tech day on 27th May 2022. The Inaugural Ceremony was held at 10.10 am sharp. The Chief Guest for Inaugural Function was Mr. Anay kamat, Director of Mobile Technology, Srijan technologies. The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Prita Mallya, Principal, Dr. Rodney D’Silva, Vice Principal, Ms. Shami Pai, IQAC Coordinator and Mr. Sumit Kumar, HOD of CS Department. Ms. Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar, Assistant Professor, Computer Science department introduced the Chief Guest.

After the Inaugural Function, Industry interaction session began at 10.30am. The speaker of session was Mr. Anay Kamat. The topic of the session was “Agile Software Delivery” and “How to build program logic”. This session was attended by around 45 students from BCA and B.Voc programme. Mr. Anay Kamat began the session by explaining how to interact with the clients and also to provide training about the software during the phase of development. The Faculty In charge for interaction session was Mr. Sameer Patil, Assistant Professor, CS Department.

Along with the interaction session there was presentation competition going on which began at 10.45 am. 11 students participated from various programmes. The judges for this competition were Dr. Edwin Barretto, Associate Professor, Commerce Department and Mr. Andre Pacheco, Assistant Professor, CS Department. The winners of this competition were Aaron goes, TY BBA who secured 1st place and Delwyn fernandes, SY BCA A who secured the 2nd Place. The Faculty Incharge was Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, Assistant Professor, CS Department. The student Incharges were Duena Cabral, Lovely Ramchandani, Nesmod Fernandes and Sagar Chaudhari from SY BCA.

The next competition was Quiz competition which began at 12.30 pm. 9 students from BCA & B.Voc participated in this competition. The winners of this competition were Smruti Kudnekar, TY BVoc and Darren Dias, SY BCA Division A. The competition Incharge was Ms. Sneha Prabhudessai, Assistant Professor, CS Department. The student Incharge were Kunal Singh, FY B.Voc and Ruchika Chaudhari, SY B.Voc.
At 12.30 pm, Keyboard Warrior competition was held in Lab 2. 20 students from BCA & B.Voc participated in this competition. First place for this competition was secured by Kris Rego, SY B.Voc and second place was secured by Mallik Rehan, FY B.Voc. The Faculty Incharge for this competition was Ms. Ankita Naik, Assistant professor, CS Department.

After the Lunch break, Gaming competition was held at 2.00 pm. 24 students participated in FIFA game. The winner of this game was Joy Fernandes, FY BCA Div A. The student incharges were Prinson Fernandes, Sam Pinto and Lovely Ramchandani. 14 students participated in Mortal Kombat, 11 game. The winner of this Game was Aniket Korgaonkar, SY BCA Div A. The student In charges were Muheet Bhatt, Mark Fernandes and Lovely Ramchandani. 12 students participated in Gang Beasts game. The winner of this game was Veryl Fernandes, SY BCA Division A. The students In charge were Muheet Bhatt, Mark Fernandes and Lovely Ramchandani. The Faculty In charge of overall gaming competition was Mr. Andre Pacheco, Assistant Professor, CS Department.

Apart from these offline competitions, two online competitions were held namely, Video Editing and Blogging/Vlogging. 5 students participated in Video Editing. The first place was secured by Larissa Sequeira, SY BCA Div B and second place was secured by Atharva Naik, SY BCA Division A. The student in charges were Prithvi Shirodkar, Floyd Fernandes and Ayush Kale from SY BCA B. The Faculty incharge was Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, Assistant Professor, CS Department.
Students had also put up a Pop-up bazaar. 6 stalls were set-up which include food, homemade items, T-shirts, Biscuits, artificial jewellery and games. The Faculty In charge for this was Ms. Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar, Assistant Professor, CS Department.

3 students participated in Blogging/Vlogging competition. The judge for this competition was Ms. Sharmila Kunde, Assistant Professor, Commerce Department. The winner of this competition was Darren Dias, SY BCA Div A. The student in charge for this competition was Vyas Vernekar, FY BCA Div A. The Faculty in charge for this competition was Ms. Rama Borkar, Assistant Professor, CS Department.
The Valedictory Function was held in presence of Dr. Edwin Barretto, Associate Professor, Commerce Department and Mr. Sumit Kumar, HOD of CS Department at 4.30 pm in the Smart Classroom. All the winners were rewarded. The overall function concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Sneha Prabhudessai, Tech-day In charge.
