Business Quiz

The M. Com Part II (Business Management) Students of the Post Graduate Department of Commerce conducted a Business Quiz Competition on 23rd August 2022.Theaim to organize the Business Quiz was to give a platform to the students to analyse their knowledge and know their potential. A total of 62 students of M. Com Part II (28 students) and M. Com Part I (34 students) were the participants.

The quiz competition had five rounds and questions were from areas like Business, Marketing, Branding, Finance, etc. The competition had a general Question & Answer round, Personality round, Tagline round, Mascot/ Logo round and Audio-Visual round covering various Multinational Companies. Five teams with each team comprising of two participants participated in the Business Quiz Competition.

The students participated with full enthusiasm and zeal.  Mr. Anand Kumar and Ms. Jyoti Koli students of M. Com(Part II) emerged as Winners of the Quiz Competition. Ms. Anisha D’Souza and Ms. Kanak Indoria students of M. Com(Part II) bagged the Runner’s up Position.

The competition was a great learning experience for all the participants and was designed as a way to test the business acumen of students in some or all domains, thus, providing them with the perfect opportunity to prove their mettle.

The Competition ended at 2:00 pm and Mr. Kushal Naik, M. Com Part II (Business Management) proposed the Vote of Thanks.

“30-Hours Certificate Course in Self Defence”

The Department of Physical Education & Sports organized a 30-Hour Certificate Course in Self Defence for the students of all programmes. It was conducted in Hall 2, 5th floor, of new block of the College. A Two-hour session was conducted every day from 03rd August to 22nd August 2022.

The Resource Person for the Course was Ms. Bharti Prasad. She is an alumnus of the College and has achieved Black belt in Karate. A total of 14 students completed the Certificate course. The names of the students are Nitya Bhat, Shudeepa Oli, Aachal Naik, Janavi Aigal, Parmesh Chauhan, Nylisha Cruz, Sita Gupta, Dashmi Naik, Sai Zuvatkar, Jesvi Cardozo, Trisha D’mello, Archana Kammar, Anslet Sebastian and Ameena Kachi.

Various techniques like Face punch, solar punch, slap kick, dropping technique, collar with twist, collar with slap were taught by the Resource Person during the conduct of the course. At the end of the course, a practical exam was conducted for the students.

Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar and Mr. Saurabh Raikar coordinated the course.

Bridge Course on Basics of Accounting

The Department of Commerce & Management conducted One-week Bridge Course on “Basics of Accounting” for First year non-Commerce students of all the programmes from 6th August 2022 to 19th August 2022.

The course is designed to help the students understand the basic fundamentals of accounting. During the course, students were taught meaning and objectives of Accounting, the procedure of Accounting, recording of journal entries, ledgers, trial balance and preparation of Final Accounts. They were also familiarized with the old as well as new format of financial statements.

A total of 15 students completed the course which included 07 students from FY B. Com, 04 from FY BBA(Gen) and 04 students from FY BBA(FS). The sessions were conducted by Mr. Gajanan Haldankar and Ms. Marjina Shaikh from the Department of Commerce & Management.

Activities under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav

The NSS unit of the College in collaboration with Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa organized several activities as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of Independence of India.

Following were the activities undertaken by the NSS unit on 11th& 13th August 2022:

Distribution of Flags: Flags were distributed to all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the College.

Cleanliness Drive: Around 105 NSS volunteers took active part in the cleanliness drive in the College premises and surrounding area from 11.00 p.m. to 11.30 p.m.

Tiranga Yatra: A rally was organized from the College premises to Lohia Maidan, Margao as a part of AKAM – Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. A Total of 105 students took part in the rally.

Visit to Iconic Place: NSS volunteers gathered under the Iconic statue of Ram Manohar Lohia and shouted patriotic slogans to celebrate 75 years of Independence of India at around 12.30p.m.

Photo booth making: The NSS volunteers set up a Photo Booth of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in the College premises. All the staff and students were encouraged to click photos in the Photo Booth and share on social media handles.

Har Ghar Tiranga awareness drive: Har Ghar Tiranga Template was made and distributed to the NSS volunteers and 19 NSS volunteers did Har Ghar Tiranga awareness drive in their neighborhood with the help of templates.

The activities were coordinated by NSS PO In charge Gajanan B. Haldankar, NSS PO Samiksha Vengurlekar and NSS PO Sanjay Velip.

Friendship Day

The Students’ and Cultural Council of the College organised Friendship Day on 12th August 2022. Many off-stage events like drawing competition, videography competition, Scavenger hunt and photography competition were organized with on-stage events like dance, skit, songs, spot prizes and games. The Impressive Backdrop and Stage was Setup by Sathvik Satardekar, Devanshi Kanekar, Pratham Nagvekar, Avani Naik and Others

The On-stage Events Began at 11:30 am at the multipurpose hall. The event was addressed by Vice-Principal Dr. Rodney D’Silva. A Slideshow with pictures of Students and teachers with their friends was prepared and edited by Ayush Kale.

Following are the details of the events: –

Scavenger hunt- Scavenger hunt began at 9:30 am at the multipurpose hall. There were 76 teams who participated in the game. The game began with a quiz round conducted and compered by Riya Kamat and Sarvashri Sawant. The top 5 teams were selected in the quiz round and were then given tasks to perform. The first task was ‘Right and left substitute’, conducted by Sharvari Bhatikar and Sakshi Sawant, followed by the second task named ‘Identify the item’ which was handled by Shambhavi Naik Gaunkar, Prasanna Vengurlekar and Magaj Naik. The third task was ‘Memory’ and was handled by Shambhavi Naik Gaunkar, Sarvashri Sawant and Sahil Khanvilkar, followed by another task named ‘Guess the phrase’, conducted by Pranav Shanbhag and Shreyash Shirodkar. Soon after this, another task named ‘Three-legged race’ was conducted by Riya Kamat and Kaushal Hattangadi. Subsequently, scavenger hunt ended with a bonus round arranged by all the volunteers together.

Drawing competition

The Drawing competition began at 9:30 am in the multipurpose hall. Representation of the Goan culture was the topic given to the students. A total of 18 students participated in the competition. The students were given 2 hours to complete. The Judging was done by Mr. Sumit Kumar and Mr. Sandesh Gaundalkar.  Miss. Mrunali Chari won the 1stplace ,Miss. Vaishnavi Morajkar won the 2nd  place and Miss. Disha Gaonkar won the 3rd place .The event was conducted by Sathvik Satardekar

Photography competition

The photography competition was also conducted. A total of 12 participants were very enthusiastic about the competition. The theme was Friendship Bond shared. The Volunteers were Mr. Mitheel Kolambkar and Mr. Ayush Kale. The participants were supposed to click the photographs within the given time frame that was from 11:30am till 1:00pm while the event was going on. They had to click their best amazing shot during the time specified and upload the image before 2:00pm on the given email ID.

The Judge for the competition was Mr. Gajanan Haldankar. The Winner of the Photography Competition is Ms. Shama Kharangate.

Videography Competition

Videography competition had begun on 9th august 2022, Participants had been given a deadline of 11th midnight for their video submission on Instagram. Participants had been informed about all the rules in advance. Coordinators had made an official page @vvmdamodarcollege to collect all the video entries from the participants as collaborator. A total of 8 participants had participated.

The winners for this event were:

Second place – Ankit Kumar Pathak

Third place – Zia Fernandes

These students had posted their reels on their Instagram account in collaboration with @vvmdamodarcollege. The coordinators for this event were Mr. Ayush Kale (TY BCA B) and Vivek Singh (TY BCA A).

The Anchoring was done by Soham Gharse, Aditi Satardekar, Advaith Ainapur and Brionna Noronha.

Financial Freedom Programme

The F.Y Certificate course committee conducted a session on “Financial Freedom” as a part of Certificate course on 21st Century Life Skills on 11th August 2022 from 12:15 to 1:15 pm in Hall no: 1, 5th Floor, Century Block for the BBA(FS) and BBA students. The programme was intended to make the students financial literate and create awareness about the basics of investment. The Resource Person for the programme was Dr. Celso Fernandes, Financial Consultant, AMFI registered mutual fund distributor and founder of Navemarg foundation

The Financial literacy programme began with the introduction of the Resource Person by Ms. Anisha Bhaskar, a student of FY BBA(FS). Dr. Celso Fernandes provided financial knowledge that could result in financially independent and confident students. He explained them about the importance of investing, various alternatives of investments and the benefits of investment at the early age. The speaker also enlightened the students about the skills and habits that are necessary for successfully managing finances of individuals.

The speakers at the end of the programme addressed the queries raised by the students with regards to the documents required to start investing. The details of the Resource Person were shared with the students for future reference. The students found the session very informative and the knowledge gained could help them to make informed financial decisions. A total of 64 participants attended the session. The session ended at 1:15 pm, with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Aachal Naik, a student of FY BBA(FS).

‘Orientation on Dissertations’ for students of M.Com Part II

The P.G. Department of Commerce (M.Com) organized an orientation program for the students of M.Com Part II on Dissertations that is offered as a part of their course structure for Semester III and IV on 30th July 2022. The main objective of the program was to provide the students with necessary guidance in preparation of dissertation. A total of 28 students from M.Com Part II attended the orientation.

Ms. Seema Dharani, Asst. Professor in Commerce commenced the session by highlighting the importance of dissertation in Academics and its relevance in research. She instructed the students to identify appropriate topics for research by referring to the available online and offline sources. She further explained the important aspects related to research such as literature review, sources of identifying data and methods of data collection.She also mentioned about the library resources and infrastructural facilities that are available in the college as well as availability of e-resources and relevant databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Emerald Insight and Elsevier which can aid smooth conduct of research work. Finally, she explained the evaluation criteria for dissertations and test of plagiarism.

Thereafter, Ms. Twinkle Fernandes, Asst. Professor in Commerce informed the students about the format of writing the dissertation report. She briefly covered the major chapters of dissertation focusing on Introduction to research area, relevant concepts, objectives of research, data analysis and interpretation. She informed the students that the Department would conduct various workshops and sessions on research methodology and tools and techniques to facilitate easy understanding of research concepts and further assistance in data analysis and interpretation.

Finally, Ms. Valencia Baptista, Asst. Professor in Commerce explained the systematic process of data analysis which includes organizing, describing, analyzing the data and further prediction using the test results.  She briefed the students about the primary and secondary data studies and encouraged the students to select topics accordingly. She also gave an overview on necessary statistical tools and techniques to be applied on the basis of type of research undertaken.

In the end, Students cleared their doubts with respect to various aspects of research by raising queries, which were clearly answered by the faculty members. The Program helped the students in getting clarity about dissertation with respect to research expectations from students and the manner of presenting an effective and productive research report. The orientation concluded at 11:00 a.m.

Financial Literacy & Investor Awareness Program

The Department of Management of the College organized a Webinar on the topic ‘Financial Literacy & Investor Awareness’ for Second and Third-year BBA(FS) Students on 28thJuly 2022 from 10:15 to 11:00 a.m. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Jafruddin, Financial Education Trainer by NISM & Resource Person for Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The objective of the session was to enlighten the students about trading in Stock market and Mutual funds as an alternative investment option. A total of 80 participants attended the session out of which 32 were males and 48 were females.

Asst. Prof. Ms. Abigale Rodrigues welcomed and introduced the Resource Person. Mr. Jafruddin, took over the session by briefing the students about the existing investment options available to investors to park their surplus funds and the benefits of each option. He enlightened the students on the importance of mutual fund investment with reference to inflation and diversification of portfolios.

The speaker also explained to the students the pyramids of investment and provided tips on trading in the stock market. He also pointed out some of the common avenues that investors choose to make quick money which are very risky.

At the end, the Resource Person addressed the queries raised by the students. The students found the session very informative and beneficial. Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Gizzel D’silva, a student of SY BBA(FS) Div A.

Sports Orientation Program

The Department of Physical Education & Sports conducted “Sports Orientation Program” for First Year Students of all Under Graduate Programmes of the College in Smart Classroom, on 26th July 2022, from 12:30 pm onwards. A total of 100 students attended the program. Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports and Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education welcomed the gathering.

Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar informed the students about the Sports structure of the College and University i.e., Sports calendar of the University, Sports Calendar of the College, Sports Marks, Allowances etc. He also addressed all the doubts of the students. Mr. Saurabh Raikar proposed the Vote of Thanks.

Special Booster Dose Vaccination Camp

The Directorate of Higher Education, Govt of Goa, recently issued a circular instructing all Teaching and Non-teaching staff to be vaccinated with the booster dose.

As a staff welfare measure, the College Office arranged for a Special Vaccination Camp in the College premises for all the staff. Staff members of other Vidya Vikas Mandal institutions – G R Kare College of Law, R M Salgaocar Higher Secondary School and Vidya Vikas Academy – were invited to take advantage of the opportunity

A three-member team from the Urban Health Centre, Margao, visited the College from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022 for the Camp.
