Online Quiz on Cyber Security Awareness

The Computer Science Department organized an online quiz on Cyber Security Awareness. The objective was to create awareness of various attacks in the cyber world and also how to behave when online.

The quiz consisted of 20 questions and those who scored 50% and above were issued E-Certificates instantly. The quiz link was kept open from 07th September 2022 to 15th September 2022. A total of 183 participants answered the online quiz, out of which 156 received the E-Certificates. The quiz coordinators were Asst. Prof. Rajlaxmi S. Nair and Asst. Prof. Andre Pacheco. The required technical assistance was given by Mr. Allan Braganca. The poster was designed by Mr. Cliffton Andrade. The necessary guidance was given by Asst. Prof. Sumit Kumar, HOD, Computer Science.

Entrepreneurship Boot Camp

With a view to create awareness among the students about various facets of entrepreneurship, a three day “Entrepreneurship Boot Camp” was organized from 12th September to 14th September 2022 by the E-Cell and the Incubation Centre of the College. The three days camp began with an inaugural function in which faculties, students and members of FiiRE were present. The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. Rohan Warty, Founder & MD – Xerviz Wlobal and an alumnus of the College.  Mr. Prashant D.S., CEO of FiiRE – Forum for Innovation, Incubation, Research and Entrepreneurship was also present. The Principal, Prof. Prita D. Mallya welcomed the gathering and congratulated the E-cell and Incubation Centre for organizing the camp. Dr. Shami Pai, Convenor of E-Cell and Incubation Centre introduced the Chief guest to the audience. The Chief Guest in his address motivated the students by narrating his experiences as a student and then, an entrepreneur. He highlighted the importance of 5 qualities in the life of an entrepreneur. Mr. Prashant gave an overview of the boot camp and how it would assist the students. The inaugural function concluded with Dr. Rodney D’Silva, Vice – Principal proposing the Vote of Thanks.

DAY 1: 12th September 2022

Session 1:-The speaker for the session was Ms. Kanan Tandi, Promoter – Congnicue, She shared her experience and growth story. She discussed her business idea and concept of startup on Human Emotions, AI and Body Language.  The session started at 10 am and concluded at 11 am, with students interacting with the speaker.

Session 2:- In this session audience were given certain examples of business ideas. The speaker of the session was Mr. Sudeep Phaldesai from Goa state Innovation Council(GSIC). He made the students aware of the concept of innovation and the role of GSIC in assisting entrepreneurs. The session was from at 11 am to 12 noon.

Session 3:- The audiences were briefed on key aspects of how to start with business, financial requirements, and schemes available to them.  The speaker for the session was Mr. Tushar V. Kamat from FiiRE. The session concluded at 1 pm.

76 participants attended the session.

DAY -2: 13th September 2022

Session 1:- This session was arranged to explain to the students about the Business Plan Format. Teams were asked to make presentation of their business plan at FiiRE. The speaker for the session was Ms. Ashlesha De Noronha, Community Manager, FiiRE.

Session 2:-The last session for day two was engaged by Mr. Ramchandra Prabhu Salgaonkar.  In this session Brain Storming of ideas was done. A lot of business ideas were shared with the students. Four teams were selected by the end of the session to make a pitch deck at FiiRE on day three. The session commenced at 11 am and ended at 12:30 pm.

39 selected participants attended the session.

DAY-3: 14th September 2022

Pitch Deck (Competition Day):-The 4 selected teams presented their business ideas at FiiRE Each team had 10 minutes to present their business idea and 15 minutes for Q-A round. The judges were Mr. Tushar V. Kamat and Michael Viegas (CA) officials with FiiRE. The winners for the pitch deck were Miss Roshni Khatun and Unnata Mandal. They won one year of free mentorship from FiiRE.  The overall faculty in- charge for the Boot Camp was Dr. Maithili S. Naik.

Bazaar Day Series

26th August 2022

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce and Management organized a ‘Bazaar Day’ for the students and faculty of the College on 26th August 2022. 38 students of TY B.Com Divisions A and B (Costing) formed 7 groups and put up various stalls near the College canteen. The students put up various eatery stalls such as sandwiches, flavoured teas, pani puri, shev puri, chocolate biscuit cake, chana chaat, onion bhaji, vegetable burgers and so on.

The students enthusiastically participated in the event and learnt various skills related to entrepreneurship through their experience. The students also learnt various aspects of Costing and pricing and were able to make a profit out of their stalls. The teacher Incharge for the event was Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar and the overall Incharge was Ms. Sheryl Sanches.

20th September 2022

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce and Management in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council of the College organized ‘Bazaar Day’ for the students and faculty of the College on 20th September 2022. 24 students of TY B.Com D formed 7 groups and put up various stalls near the College canteen. The students put up various eatery stalls such as chutney sandwiches, masala tea, coffee, kokum soda, veg tart, masala pao, sukha puri, kurkure chaat, corn chaat, fruit chaat, bread chaat, chana chaat, veg momos, forminhas, chicken rolls and so on.

The students enthusiastically participated in the event and learnt various skills related to entrepreneurship in the experience. The students also learnt various aspects of costing and pricing and were able to make a profit out of their stalls. The teacher incharge for the event was Ms. Marjina Shaikh and the overall incharge was Ms. Sheryl Sanches.

23rd September 2022

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce and Management in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council of the College organized ‘Bazaar Day’ for the students and faculty of the College on 23rd September 2022. 40 students of TY B.Com(Accounting) formed 11 groups and put up various stalls near the College canteen. The students put up various eatery stalls such as chutney sandwiches, veg momos, chicken pattice, veg and chicken spring rolls, pani puri, shev puri, fish cones and so on. The students also put up a game stall and stalls for accessories like handmade earrings, masks, scrunchies, bookmarks, gift boxes and so on.

The students enthusiastically participated in the event and learnt various skills related to entrepreneurship in the experience. The students also learnt various aspects of costing and pricing and were able to make a profit out of their stalls. The teacher incharge for the event was Mr. Ainsley Bernard and the overall incharge was Ms. Sheryl Sanches.

26th September 2022

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce and Management in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council of the College organized ‘Bazaar Day’ for the students and faculty of the College on 26th September 2022. 20 students of SY B. Com-C formed groups and put up 5 stalls near the College canteen. The students put up various eatery stalls such as Chana chaat, butter corn chaat, mandu (Korean style chicken momos), Mushroom samosas, chicken roll, gobi Manchurian, mojito, shev puri, dahi puri and so on.

The students enthusiastically participated in the event and learnt various skills related to entrepreneurship in the experience. The students also learnt various aspects of finance, costing and pricing and were able to make a profit out of their stalls. The teacher in charge for the event was Dr. Sheetal Arondekar and the overall in charge was Ms. Sheryl Sanches.

29th September 2022

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce and Management in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council of the College organized ‘Bazaar Day’ for the students and faculty of the College on 29th September 2022. 32 students of SY B.Com A formed groups and put up 6 stalls near the college canteen. The students put up various eatery stalls such as kachori, potato nuggets, mojito, chanachaat, papdichaat, French fries, rawa nuggets, fish cultet, pinagr, cupcakes, chicken cutlets and so on.

The students enthusiastically participated in the event and learnt various skills related to entrepreneurship in the experience. The students also learnt various aspects of finance, costing and pricing and made a decent profit out of their stalls. The students were very happy with the experience and asked for another opportunity to put up stalls in the College. The teacher incharge for the event was Ms. Sheryl Sanches.

7-Day FDP on Technology For Educators

The IQAC and FDP cell of the College jointly organised a 7-day Faculty Development program on the topic “Technology for Educators” in the month of August- September 2022 for all the teaching staff of the College. The Program followed a lecture-demonstration-hands-on approach for all the sessions.

 

DAY 1: 23rd& 24th August 2022 from 2:00-3:30 p.m.

A session on Google Workspace by Ms. Pradnya Nadkarni. She demonstrated various tools offered under the Google workspace, like Google calendar, Google drive, Google forms, Tasks, etc. Throughout the session, participants tried out different features of different tools on their own and asked the Resource Person their doubts and difficulties.

On 24th, a session on Master the Communication Processes Using Gmail was conducted by Ms. Pradnya Nadkarni. Ms. Nadkarni demonstrated how to use the different features of Gmail, in detail. This included filtering emails, organising emails with labels, undoing sent emails, snoozing the emails, scheduling emails, etc. Following the same approach of the previous day of FDP, participants tried out these features on their systems and got their doubts cleared. The day ended with Vote of Thanks proposed by Swati Bhat.

 

DAY 3: 6th September 2022 from 2:00-3:30 p.m.

A session on Google Classroom by Mr. Ramkrishna Reddy. He spoke about how Google classrooms can be an effective tool for educators to manage their courses. He demonstrated how to create Google classrooms, assigning classwork, grading, and making announcements in Google classrooms, and use of tools like assignments and quizzes to achieve different tasks of an educator efficiently. He also demonstrated how to manage a Google classroom. This included copying, archiving, and deleting classrooms, removing and muting students, adding new teachers, and other classroom settings

 

DAY 4: 22nd& 24th September 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm.

A session on Application of Blooms Taxonomy in Teaching-Learning-Evaluation was conducted by three faculties from Chowgule College. After the welcome of guests and address by the Principal, first Resource person for the day, Prof. Nandkumar Sawant, Professor & Head, Dept. of Geography spoke about Lower order thinking skills (LOTS) and higher order thinking skills (HOTS) as per bloom’s taxonomy. Dr. Nandini Vaz Fernandes, Associate Professor & Head, Dept. of Zoology engaged a session about application of blooms taxonomy using digital learning platforms. Mr. Andrew Barreto, Assistant Professor, Dept. of English engaged the final session on the topic of Blended learning platforms. He also showcased a digital portfolio of the works and projects of a student. The Resource Persons requested all the teachers to complete the tasks assigned on Google Classroom before the next session on 24th September.

On 24th, Prof. Nandkumar Sawant spoke about Academic assignment writing: formatting and rubrics. This was followed by a few participants presenting an assignment that they had designed for their own curriculum. All the participants engaged in recommending improvisations to the assignments presented. This was followed by a session by Dr. Nandini Vaz Fernandes on “Problem based learning: format and rubrics.” Participants asked questions regarding the doubts that they had and got them cleared from the Resource Person. Shri. Andrew Barreto conducted the final session on “Flipped classroom.”Prof. Nandkumar Sawant summarised the discussions of the day in the concluding session. The day ended with vote of thanks by Shreyas Desai.

 

DAY 6: 27th & 28th September from 2:00-3:30 p.m.

A session on Make your Information look beautiful was taken by Mr. Sandesh Gaundalkar on both the days. He spoke about design and principles of design. He also demonstrated how various colour schemes should be applied in layout design. He covered typefaces and fonts, and demonstrated strengths and weaknesses of serif and sans-serif typefaces. This was followed by participants trying to redesign their syllabus powerpoint presentations as per the principles of design discussed during the two days. The Resource person appraised their work and suggested improvements wherever applicable. The day and the FDP ended with Vote of Thanks by Shreyas Desai.

Traditional Games for Staff and Students on the Occasion of National Sports Day

The Sports Council organized Traditional Games for Staff and Students of the College on the occasion of National Sports Day on 29th August 2022.

Four different Games like 7 tiles, Ring game, Marble &Spoon and Tyre race were planned taking into consideration Age and fitness level of both students as well as staff.

All the games were played in Groups which were formed by picking up lots. Two groups were made for Staff and they played against each other. Same way 4 groups were made among students with additional One group of Sports Council members and all played against each other.

All the staff and students fully enjoyed playing different games. At the end chocolates were distributed to all the participants and Programme ended. A Total of 48 (Staff- 10, students- 25, Sport council members-13) participated in the event.

Session on “Self And Work Management” -N9001 Syllabus

A Two day interactive session was conducted on “Self and Work Management” – N9001 syllabus for FY B.Voc.(ST) students on the 26th and 29th August 2022 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The Resource Person was Ms. Caroline Stewart Silva from Impact Training Solutions, Margao.

Ms. Silva spoke about managing work requirement, following Code of Conduct, Personal Grooming, adhering to Organisational Procedures and Policies, Planning, Organising and Prioritising of work etc. She focused on the necessary skills required for a Junior Software Developer.

The session was attended by 36 students from FY B.Voc.(ST). Teacher Incharge for the session was Ms. Rama Borkar.

Orientation on Use of Library Resources and Facilities for students of M.Com Part-I

The P. G. Department of Commerce (M.Com) in collaboration with the Department of Library and Information Science organized an Orientation Programme on Use of Library Resources and Facilities for the students of M.Com Part I on 29th August 2022. The aim of the session was to acquaint the students with the rules & regulations, policy for issue and return of books, book entitlement and availability of e-resources and facilities. A total of 36 students from M.Com Part-I attended the session. Ms. Valencia Baptista, Asst. Professor in Commerce welcomed and introduced the Resource Person, Ms. Manasi Rege, College Librarian.

Ms. Manasi Rege commenced the session by giving a brief overview about the library, book issue and return policy & penalties for late submission or loss of books. Ma’am Manasi informed the students that each student can issue 10 books and 10 additional books if they have passed B.Com with Distinction. She also mentioned that the library resources include 35152+ books, 71 national and international printed journals and magazines, 16newspapers, past project reports, past years question papers uploaded on the college website, e-resources and high-quality electronic databases. She also enlightened the students about availability of encyclopedias, handbooks and subject dictionaries for the students, faculty members and researchers. She also briefed the students about the open access to various e-resources such as Indiastat, N-LIST and NDLI along with various e-books, e-journals, e-papers that could be used for study, research or reference by login with the help of user id and password. Finally, Ma’am Manasi encouraged the students to participate in library activities and make optimum use of the rich library resources.

It was an informative session, as the students learnt and got clarity about the various aspects and issues related to Library resources and facilities. The programme concluded at 11.00 am. with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Shine De Souza.

“State-Level Financial Literacy Week”

The Department of Commerce & Management of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics Margao-Goa in association with Suman Foundation – SMVM (SEBI recognised Investors’ Association) organised State-Level Financial Literacy Week, the theme being “Digital Evolution in Finance- A Way Forward”, from 22nd to 27th August 2022. The objective of this event was to guide the youth of Goa to a future of financial security. A total of 150 students attended all the sessions during the week. Students of Rosary College of Arts & Commerce, MES College, Carmel College attended the event.

The Programme commenced with the Inaugural function and Invocation dance performed by a student of SYB. Com, Mr. Sahil Khanvilkar. The dignitaries were called upon for lighting of the lamp. Prof. Prita Mallya, Principal of the College addressed the gathering providing insights about the importance of financial literacy and expressed her gratitude towards Suman Foundation for this collaboration. The President of Suman Foundation Mr. Rupesh Patil expressed his gratitude. The week consisted of series of sessions from eminent speakers of capital markets.

The first session on Day 1 was taken by Mr. Pankaj Bhageria, AGM SEBI, on “Passive Mutual Funds.” He introduced the concept of Riskometer by SEBI and explained the different parameters of the same. Highlights of this session included relation of risk and return, difference between mutual fund houses and mutual fund schemes, direct plan and regular plan, concept of growth fund and dividend fund, expense ratio, benchmarking and risk adjusted returns. He explained these concepts depicting practical examples on Money control website. The Second session on the 1st day was by Dr. Sarika Lohana, SEBI Certified Resource Person on Introduction of “REITs and InvITs”. She briefed about AMCs and 15 InvITs under SEBI.

The speaker of Day 2, Mr. Yogesh Bambardekar, AGM -BSE IPF, spoke on “Role of Digitisation in Securities Market”. He informed the participants about how digitisation has simplified opening an account with brokers, the various online redressal method and the ease of setting up brokers account.

The first speaker of Day 3, Mr. Sanjeev Bajaj, GM-NISM, introduced to the participants the “Careers in Securities Market.” He also highlighted the various certification courses available and the employment generated in the stock market. The second speaker of Day 3, Mr. Nikhil Shinde, Sr. AGM-NISM, explained in details about the certifications offered by NISM. He explained the role and functions of NISM Securities market, role of securities markets, types of securities markets, brokers and sub brokers, industry size, careers in Securities market and function wise NISM certifications.

Mr. Sandeep Tripathi, the speaker of Day 4, Chief Manager at Bank of Baroda, conducted a session on “Digital Lending-Fueling India’s Economic Growth through Inclusive Finance.” The session concentrated on the topics like MSMEs, the contribution of MSME towards the nation, structure of capital that MSMEs can avail to, the speaker also capitalized on how the debt capital is important as a source of fund for such enterprise, formal credit offered to MSMEs. He mentioned, how the adaptation of digital lending has changed the development of the country than the traditional lending. It has made a win-win situation for both the lender as well as the borrower. Digital lending enablers like smartphones, easy availability of the internet, UPI, GSTIN, UDYAM registration and ADHAAR card identification was discussed.

Speaker of Day 5, Mr. Somesh Vaidya, Sr. Manager- BD MCX, spoke about “Derivatives- An Asset class.” He also highlighted on financial market constituents, Global markets and trade timings, commodity markets- spot & derivatives, risk to industries, regulatory framework, factors affecting commodity prices, participants in commodities market, active commodity futures in India, commodity vs equity.

On the last day of the week, a session was conducted by Mr. Yogesh Kundnani, Sr. Vice President, CDSL on Investors’ awareness to capital markets and depositories. He highlighted the role of CDSL as a depository and various services provided by CDSL. He also cautioned the students of the frauds taking place in the securities market.

The Valedictory function was addressed by the Principal, Dr. Prita Mallya. She shared her experience of cyber crime with the students. Dr. Sarika Lohana gave her valuable feedback about the week and congratulated the College for conducting this event. All the student coordinators of the event namely Ms. Rohini, Ms. Shama, Ms. Shreeya, Mr. Prasanna, Ms. Sonika, Ms. Sidhi, Mr. Jatin, Mr. Vivek, Ms. Tanu, Ms. Mahek and Mr. Pranav were felicitated by the dignitaries for their efforts in making this event a success. Dr. Shami Pai, HoD, Commerce & Management proposed the Vote of Thanks. Teacher Coordinators of the event were Ms. Swati Bhat and Mr. Gajanan Haldankar.

Living A Healthy Lifestyle

The FY Certificate Course Committee had organized a webinar on “Living a Healthy Lifestyle” as a part of Certificate Course in 21st century Life Skills for the students of FY B.com, FY BBA(FS) and FY BBA on 25th August from 2:00pm to 3:15 pm on Google meet and YouTube. The Resource Person for the session was Dr. Joline Fernandes, Homoeopathic Consultant, Clinical Nutritionist (London), Lifestyle & Personal fitness Specialist. The objective of the session was to highlight the importance of living a Healthy Lifestyle. A total of 246 students attended the program (100 via Google meet and 146 on YouTube)

Mr. Aggie Fernandes a student from FY B.com A was the compere for the session. At the onset Asst Prof. Marjina Shaikh, Convenor of the         FY Certificate course committee welcomed the gathering. The Resource Person took over session by briefing the students how health can be maintained by proper diet, exercise and hygiene. She spoke about healthy lifestyle that involves a nutritional diet, daily exercise, adequate sleep, being happy, and thinking positive. She emphasized on the different elements like performing exercises, eating seasonal and locally grown organic food with fibers and how unwanted calories and fats buildup toxins in our body.

Speaker elaborated on the importance of healthy lifestyle for the student to live longer and to make them less vulnerable to sickness and diseases. The Resource Person recommended few super foods that are packed with high nutrients that could induce hair growth. She listed out the Do’s and Don’ts that could help the students to lead a healthy lifestyle and also shared tips to stay fit. She advised the students on the food that needs to be avoided that can lead to issues such as Thyroid, PCOD and hormonal imbalance by emphasizing more on the packaged food and its side effects on our body.

The speaker at the end of the session addressed the queries raised by the students with regards to the food diet for athletics and minimum hours of sleep required for better concentration. The students found the session very informative and beneficial as they got an insight about the measures that will help them stay healthy. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Bhoviya, a student of FY B.com A.

“Excellence in Weightlifting”

VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics participated in Inter-Collegiate Weightlifting Championship organized by Goa University. A total of 30 Colleges from Goa participated in the championship. The College team won 1 Gold Medal and 1 Silver Medal which led to an overall win of Third Place.

The Gold Medal was won by Mr. Alton Almeida from F. Y B. Com in weight category of 55 kg. The Silver Medal was won by Mr. Vedang Desai from S.Y BCA in weight category of 96 kg.

The College had provided training to the students in Weightlifting from 1st August 2022. The training was provided by Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education. The College Director of Physical Education & Sports Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar was the manager of the team.

Prof. Prita Mallya; Principal of the College and Mr. Vikram Verlekar; Chairman- Sports Governing Council of Vidya Vikas Mandal have also been very supportive and also congratulated the team for their performance.
