Navratri Celebrations

The Staff Recreation Club of the College organised Navratri Celebration for the teaching and non-teaching staff of the College from 26th September 2022 to 4th October 2022. As a part of this celebration, the teaching and non-teaching staff members of the College were given dress code. Each day the staff members were asked to dress up according to the Navratri colours. On Day 1 of Navratri i.e 26th September, the dress code was White, followed by Red, Royal Blue, Yellow, Green, Grey, Peacock Green and on the last Day i.e 4th October 2022 it was colour Pink.

On 3rd October, a programme was organised for the teaching and non-teaching staff of the College which began at 12.15 p.m. in Hall No. 1, 5th Floor, Central Block. Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar welcomed the staff members for the programme. Prof. Prita D. Mallya, Principal of the College addressed the gathering. The staff members performed ‘Garba Dance’ which is the traditional Gujarati Dance usually performed as a part of Navratri Festival in India. Teaching and non-teaching staff members enthusiastically participated in the dance. The staff members brought in Navratri themed snacks which are especially prepared in the state of Gujarat, India which enhanced the enthusiasm and spirit of festivity amongst the members. Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, Convenor of Staff Recreation Club proposed the Vote of Thanks.

TechTrendz Activity – Rock ‘n’ Reel

The Multimedia Group of TechTrendz Club of the Department of Computer Science organized a reel-making competition Rock ‘n’ Reel for the students. This competition was kept open for all the students of the College. The members of the organizing team were Ms. Larissa Sequeira and Ms. Clancy Fernandes, both from TY BCA-B. The Poster was designed by Mr. Prithvi Shirodkar from TY BCA-B.

This competition was to make a reel showcasing the students’ talent. The competition was kept open from 24th September 2022 to 2nd October 2022. The participants had to form a team with minimum of 1 member and a maximum of 3 members. The participants were instructed to record a small video of 60 seconds showcasing their creativity and talent in any areas of their interest such as dancing, singing, painting, acting etc. The responses were collected through Google form. The judging was based on creativity, talent, editing effects and the number of likes on social media. A total of 17 students from BCA, B.Voc(ST) and B.Com programmes participated in this competition. The First place was bagged by Mr. Darren Dias from TY BCA-A, second place was shared by Mr. Ayush Kale from TY BCA-B and Ms. Avani Naik from TY B.Com-B and the third place was shared by Mr. Shawn Baretto from TY BCA-A and Mr. Ankit Kumar Pathal from FY B.Com-B

The students of the organizing team were guided by Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, TechTrendz Coordinator and Ms. Apurva GaunsDessai, Event Coordinator for the Multimedia group. The event received valuable suggestions from the Head of the Computer Science Department, Mr. Sumit Kumar.

Project Roadstep Series

The Department of Computer Science organized “Project Roadsteps” – An initiative for orienting and guiding the TYBCA Students through a series of Steps for their Final year Projects.Project RoadSteps was conducted over a period of 3 months, Aug-Sept-Oct 2022.

Project RoadStep1: Orientation on TYBCA Projects – by Ms. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar.The students were informed about the planning & research required to choose a good project topic. Further, the process of evaluation of project by the University was also explained to the students.

Project RoadStep 2: Synopsis Writing Session for TYBCA Project Groups – by Ms. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar. Once the students formed their project groups, they were provided with a format and guidance to write the Project Synopsis. The student groups were informed to submit Synopsis for more than one project Idea. After this session, the Synopsis was shared with the respective Project Guides to analyze and finalize a good project topic.

Project RoadStep 3:Industry Interaction Session for TYBCA Projects by Mr. Mohsin Shaikh, Founder & CEO, Haztech. Mr. Mohsin discussed the ideas selected by the students for their Projects and guided them on the path forward. Every Project group was given time to ask their doubts and queries at the end of the session.

Project RoadStep 4: Peer-Sharing of Information by Project Guides – TYBCA Project Groups – by Ms. Sweta P. ShetVerenkar. This session was moderated by Ms. Nishigandha Naik Gaonkar. Every faculty was allotted a time limit of 10 minutes to providebrief about their student’s project group Idea. All the 13 Project group ideas were discussed and inputswere received from all other faculty members. This session helped all the Department faculties to know about every project and give suggestions to other faculties and students.

Project RoadStep 5: Project Management and Software Version Control using Git and Gitlab, – by Mr. Wendham Gray. The Computer Science Council had recommended training for students in using a Project Management and Version Control tool and this session was a part of implementing the same. Mr. Wendham conducted a hands-on session for the TYBCA Students on using Git Commands.

A total of 72 TYBCA Students benefited immensely from all the 5 Project Roadsteps as it was the first time that a series of such sessions was conducted for the students.The coordinator for all the 5 Project sessions was Mrs. Sweta P. ShetVerenkar,TYBCA Project Coordinator.All the Department faculty members contributed in the successful execution of all the sessions and students were happy to have received proper step by step guidance for doing the projects.

‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for Mentors

The Student Welfare Cell organized a session on ‘Orientation on Mentoring’ for the mentors on 26th September 2022 from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm in classroom F-101. Ms. Eshani Bakhle, the counselor of the College was the Resource Person for the session.

The teacher incharge, Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, welcomed the faculties and gave a brief introduction of the Resource Person. The counselor explained the roles and guidelines of the mentor. She highlighted the importance of psychometric testing which includes different types of tests such as emotional intelligence test, self-esteem test, personality test and interest test. She advised the mentors to encourage their mentees to answer these tests and get the results. The mentors were directed to keep the information shared by the mentees confidential with them.

She emphasized that the mentors help their mentees with their career paths, motivate them and guide them accordingly. It was also stressed that if any mentors happen to identify warning signs of mental health issues in any student, then to immediately refer the student to the College counsellor. She also mentioned that students can approach her directly if needed. The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks given by the Teacher in charge Ms. Dixita Gauns Dessai. The sessions were attended by 19 faculties. The overall guidance for the session was provided by Dr. Shami Pai, Convenor of the Student Welfare Cell.

‘Scholarship Mela’

The cost of a college education is rising. Covering those rising costs may be difficult. Availing the benefit of scholarships may provide financial assistance to the students, make education accessible and affordable or help alleviate some financial stress. Keeping this objective in mind the Student Welfare Cell in collaboration with the OBC/ Minority/ SC/ST Cell of the College organized ‘Scholarship Mela’ on 24th September 2022 from 11.00 am to 12.30 pm in Hall no.2 for the students across all programmes. This was the first time such an initiative was undertaken by the Student Welfare Cell of the College. The motive behind organising this session was to provide the participants with an overview of various scholarships offered by the institution, state and central government and encourage maximum students to apply for the same.

Dr. Shami Pai, Convenor of the Student Welfare Cell welcomed the gathering and introduced the committee members to the students. She informed students that the teachers have put in a lot of efforts to identify scholarships for the students and thus, they have to take maximum benefit from this session. Dr. Shami further assured students that the teachers will guide them in filling the application form while applying for various scholarships.

The faculty members gave an overview of the scholarship process and demonstrated step by step procedure on how to search and identify various open scholarships available on different platforms. The faculty further requested the interested students to send their applications before the due date.Participants found the session very informative and useful.The teachers addressed all the queries raised by the students. Ms. Roshni Khatun, student of M. Com Part I proposed the Vote of Thanks. The session concluded at 12.15pm. Around 100 students attended the session.

Career Opportunities in Mutual Funds

The Career Cell of the College organized a Career Counselling Program on Career Opportunities in Mutual Funds for the students of B.Com and BBA(FS) 30th September 2022 Room No. F-404, 4th Floor, Central Block. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Chirag Majithia, Founder, Shreeji Investments.  Ms. Mrunali Chari, student from FY B.Com C was the compere for the session. Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar, Convenor of Career Cell welcomed the participants and the Resource Person. Ms. Pooja Rane, student from FY B.Com introduced the Resource Person, Mr. Chirag Majithia.

Mr. Majithia commenced the session by informing about the importance of investing. He then explained the benefits of investing in mutual funds considering the prevailing inflation rates. The Resource Person also explained various types of securities that are available for investments and the importance of investing in large cap, mid cap and small cap funds in comparison to debt funds and hybrid funds. Mr. Majithia guided the students with various career opportunities available in Stock Market, Mutual fund AMCs, Stock Broking Firms, etc and also guided the students upon how to set the goals in order to avail these opportunities.

Towards the end of the session, Mr. Majithia answered the queries raised by the students. It was an informative and enlightening session.  Students expressed their satisfaction by providing positive feedback for the session. Ms. Jesleen Fernandes, student of SY BBA(FS) proposed the Vote of Thanks.  Miss. Abigale Rodrigues, Assistant Professor, presented the letter of Gratitude to the Resource Person. A Total of 49 students attended the session.

‘Orientation of Civil Service Exam (GPSC)’

The Placement cell in collaboration with Government of Goa, Office of Commissioner, Labour and Employment, Regional Employment Exchange Model Career Centre, Panaji organized an Orientation on Civil Service Exam (GPSC) for the students of all programmes on 22nd September 2022 in Hall No 2 from 10 am to 1 p.m. The objective of the orientation programme was to provide awareness and necessary guidance to the students to crack civil service examinations (GPSC).

The Resource Person for the programme was Mr. Naguesh Sardessai, Lecturer, Peoples HSS, Panaji and active member of Career cell GEDC. He was accompanied by Mr. Dattaraj Naik, officer of the regional employment exchange, Panaji. Placement cell Convenor, Dr. Edwin Barreto was also present for the programme. Ms. Valencia Baptista, Asst. Prof. in Commerce welcomed the audience and Ms. Roshni Khatun from M. Com Part I introduced the Resource Person.

The Resource Person, Mr. Nagesh Sardessai began the session with a brief overview on Civil Service Examination (UPSC and GPSC). Thereafter, he covered the preparation for civil service examination, where he briefed the students about qualifications required, necessary reference books, question paper pattern and medium of answering (language choice). He focussed on the fact that covering the syllabus is not sufficient, but well updated current affairs, general knowledge, use of grammatically correct language and its better interpretation is equally essential to score good marks and clear the exam. He concluded his session by answering the questions of the students and thanking the College for giving him the opportunity to address the students.

Thereafter, Mr. Dattaraj Naik, briefed the students about the employment exchange, its role and how to avail its facilities through Goa Online portal. He also encouraged the students to register for labour card as it is necessary and helpful to get jobs in public as well as private sector. As a token of gratitude, Miss Grisela Pinto from M.Com Part I presented a memento to the Resource Person, Mr. Nagesh Sardessai  and Miss Petalia Coutinho from M.Com Part I expressed the Vote of Thanks.

The Orientation was a great experience for students as they got valuable information about the civil service exam. Altogether 103 students attended the programme.

Inter-Class Football Tournament (Men & Women)

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized Inter-class Football Tournament for Men & Women from 20th to 22nd Sept 2022 on Kare Law College Ground from 2:00 pm. A Total of 25 students participated in the same out of which 22 were men and 3 were women.

Tournament commenced with an Introduction by Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education of the College. He briefed all the rules and regulations about the tournament.

The tournament was played on knock-out basis and Fixtures was designed by putting lots. All the matches were played with time limit of 10 minutes each half i.e (10mins – 2mins break – 10mins) for Men’s as well as women’s. Only Finals were played of 15 minutes each half.

Participation in Quiz and Best Presenter competition

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) Goa Branch had organized Quiz and Best Presenter (PPT) competition on 20th September 2022. Five students from the College had participated in the competition.

The Best Presenter competition commenced at 10.00 A.M at ICAI Goa branch Panjim with a total of 11 Participants from all over Goa. The topic of the competitions were (1) Impact of News channel on Society. (2) Data is the New Oil. (3) Sustainability of Crypto currencies. (4) Ways to Improve health system in India (5) Impact of Technology on environment and (5) Economic power of Women Empowerment. The judges for the competition were C.A Sushma Khandeparkar and C.A Shruti Karpe. All students successfully expressed their views and ideas on the selected topics. The winners of the competition were Ms. Astha Kossambe (SY B.Com Student) and Runners-up was Ms. Anisha G Nadkarni (TY B.Com student) from Damodar College. The competition ended at around 12.45 p.m.

The Quiz competition commenced at 1.00 P.M and a total of three teams participated in the same. The winner of the competition was Ms. Dimple Tavde, TY B.Com student of the College and Mr. Gourish Bhatikar (Alumnus of our College).

The students were guided and accompanied by Assistant Professor Gajanan B. Haldankar.

Ganesh Utsav – Short Film-Making Competition

The Fine Arts Club of Cultural Council of the College organized ‘Ganesh Utsav’ a Short Film-Making Competition, from 31st August to 20th September 2022. The competition was open to all students of the College. The theme for the competition was Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with family and friends. Students were encouraged to capture all moments of the rituals and festivities of their celebrations. A total of eleven students participated in the competition. It provided a platform for the students to showcase their creativity and talent in cinematography. The films were judged on the basis of creativity, relevance to the theme, originality, cinematography, and overall presentation.

The first place was bagged by Ms. Hema Parab of FY B.Voc, the second place went to Ms. Esha Pai Fondekar of TY B.Com (B), while the third place was bagged by Mr. Shriyeash Kavlekar of FY B.Com (D).

The judges for the competition were Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar and Mr. Sanjay Velip.

The Fine Arts Club faculty in chargeof this event was Ms. Lizette D’Costa, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics & Banking.
