Street Play on Cleanliness

The NSS Volunteers of the College performed a street play at KTC Bus stand and New market, Margao on 17th October 2022, to create public awareness about cleanliness. 14 NSS volunteers took part in the same.

Through the street play, volunteers first depicted how we generate waste and its consequences on people and the environment. They also highlighted the proper way of disposing household waste. The street play concluded with suggestions to reduce waste. The activity started at 11:30 am and ended at 12:15 pm. It was coordinated by NSS Programme Officers, viz. PO-in-charge Gajanan B. Haldankar, PO Samiksha Vegurlekar and PO Sanjay Velip.

Session on SSC/N9002 Module-TeamWork and Communication

The Department of Computer conducted a session on SSC/N9002 Module-Team Work and Communication for FY B.Voc(ST) students as a part of their curriculum. The session was held on two days, 13th and 27th October 2022, from 12.45pm to 3.45 pm in Classroom F-101. 27 students attended the session on 13th October 2022, and 22 students attended the session on 27th October 2022. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Seeya Dalvi, HR, Co-founder and CEO, Creative HR Solutions.

The first session, on 13th October 2022, commenced by introduction of the Resource Person by Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair. The Resource Person explained how to work effectively in a team. She conducted activities with the students by grouping them into teams and giving some tasks to complete as a part of team work.  She assigned a task to the students to conduct research on new technologies and programming languages upcoming in the industry. Students had to form a team and present the same. This activity was taken up in the second session held on 27th October 2022, wherein the students enjoyed working in a team effectively. She ended her session by explaining how to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately with colleagues. She answered the queries of the students. The faculty in-charge for this session was Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair. Mr. Sumit Kumar, HOD, Computer Science provided the necessary guidance for this session.

Hands-on Training on Commodity Derivatives Market

As an initiative towards providing practical exposure to students, a guest lecture was organized by the Department of Commerce & Economics in the course of Indian Capital Market on 14th October 2022.The topic wasHands-on Training on Commodity Derivatives Market”. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Pallab Sarkar, Manager, SEBI. A total of 95 students attended the session.

Mr. Sarkar commenced his session by introducing the students to the concept of derivatives.  He elaborated upon the basics of forwards, futures and options.  Students were also told about the evolution of the commodity market, market operations and the benefits of commodity trading. Mr. Sarkar made the students aware of the regulatory role of SEBI in the commodities market. He discussed the commodity market operations with a lot of examples from his personal experience and made the session interesting. The session concluded with an interaction between the students and the Resource Person.

‘Khana Mela”

The Department of Management organized Khana Mela for the students of FYBBA (FS) as a part of Microeconomics curriculum. The activity was organised on 8th October for Division A and 15th October for Division B from 10a.m. onwards. 74 students participated – 35 from division A and 39 from division B. The objective of the activity was to apply microeconomics in real life. After conducting the activity, the students learnt about the practical application of demand, supply, forms of market structure, profit, loss and choice as an economic problem (what to produce, how to produce and whom to produce). Both the divisions were divided into group of 5-10 students and 11 groups were created. Each group sold different types of snacks and drinks.

The activity was conducted within the College premises besides the Multipurpose Hall. The profit gained was equally distributed among the students. Through Khana Mela, students learnt to use the scarce resources accordingly and to supply the commodities for which there was demand.

After the activity was completed, students were asked to submit a report mentioning the cost of arranging, profit made, resources used, type of profit made and the type of market structure experienced. The faculty in charge for Khanna Mela was Asst. Prof. Karuna Ballikar.

Student Volunteers at FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022

The Local Organising Committee of FIFA had taken a great initiative to organise FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup India 2022.The tournament was hosted at Navi Mumbai, Bhubaneswar and Goa (Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda) from 4th to 26th October 2022. 7 students from the College were selected as Volunteers for the same.

Train-Earn-Learn Certificate Course for Skill Enhancement

The Department of Commerce & Internship Cell of the College, in collaboration with Western India Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a Skill Enhancement Program for Undergraduates – ‘Train Earn and Learn’ (TEL) for the students of the College. The duration of the program was 36 hours. The sessions were conducted by various skilled and experienced Chartered Accountants from the WIRC of ICAl. The sessions were conducted from 6th October to 19th October 2022 from 4 pm to 7 pm through online mode on the Bluejeans and Zoom platforms.

The Resource Persons for the program were CA Nisarg Desai, CA Jyoti Malkani, CA Dr. Prakash Valecha, CA Akash Idani, CA Chirag Jain and CA Paresh Panchal.

The following sessions were conducted: Business Communications, Social & Business Etiquette, Personality Development, Excel for Auditing, Goods and Services Tax, E-filing under Income Tax, Tally Accounting and TDS under Income Tax.

85 students enrolled for the programme. The students were required to answer an online exam at the end of the program. 65 students appeared for the exam and 54 of them cleared. The students who successfully completed the program were awarded a ‘Certificate of Completion’ by the ICAI.

The Convenor for the Program was Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar, Asst. Prof. in Commerce & Management. The faculty in charge of the Program were Ms. Swati Bhat, Ms. Marjina Shaikh and Ms. Sheryl Sanches.

‘RDC-I’ CAMP for NCC-Navy Cadets

26 Kar organized RDC-I Camp from 5th – 10thOctober, 2022 in Belagavi. The main objective of the RDC-I camp was to prepare the students for Republic Day Camp, to enhance self-confidence in Cadets, deepen their value systems and provide an exposure to the rich culture and traditions of our Nation.

The camp was filled with lot of memories, experiences and adventures. The cadets were taught swimming, Semaphore language, firing, sailing, Drill, sentry duty information on different types of guns, how to use gun during firing etc. Session on Natural disaster and medical emergency was also conducted. The camp would start every day at 6.00 a.m. with exercise and end at 8.30 p.m.

Cadets enjoyed learning firing, swimming, beach cleaning and sailing. The last day was filled with lot of joy as cadets participated in a cultural program. The camp ended with campfire and cultural program.

The participants were given certificates at the end of the camp.483 cadets participated from Karnataka and Goa Directorate and 204 got selected for the second camp from 13thto 20thOctober.

Workshop on Cyber Security

The TechTrendz Club of the Department of Computer Science of VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao organized a workshop on Cyber Security on 7th October 2022 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm in Hall 2. 127 students from BCA, B.Voc(ST) and B.Com attended the workshop.

The compere for the workshop was Ms. Clancy Fernandes, a student of TY BCA-B. The TechTrendz Coordinator, Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair, informed the participants about the objective of the workshop. The Vice-Principal, Dr. Edwin Barreto, delivered the welcome address. Mr. Prithvi Shirodkar from TY BCA-B introduced the Resource Person, Mr. Nikhil Malagi, Managing Director, Balachandra Technologies, Mapusa.

The Resource Person covered various types of cyber-attacks that have happened in the past as well the ones which are happening nowadays. He extended the explanation showing live examples of cyber-attacks with students to create alertness when online. He also mentioned whom to approach when being attacked and the measures to consider when online as part of cyber security awareness. The session was very interactive. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Kris Rego, TY B.Voc(ST) student. The Poster was designed by Mr. Cliffton Andrade, student of SY BCA-A. Mr. Sameer Patil, Ms. Sweta Verenkar and Mr. Sumit Kumar, HOD, Computer Science provided the necessary guidance. Technical assistance was provided by Mr. Punarva Prabhu Dessai, System Administrator. Mr. Alan Braganca and Ms. Preeti Dhoble provided the necessary help for the workshop. E-certificates were issued to the participants.

IRDA Training Session

The Department of Management conducted an IRDA Insurance Training Session for the students of Second Year & Third Year BBA(FS) on 14th,19th September & 18th, 25th October 2022. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Nixon Fernandes, Development Officer, LIC of India. The main objective of the training session was to help students clear IRDA online examination in Life Insurance Module. A total of 77 students attended the same.

First sessionof IRDA Insurance Training was conducted on 14thSeptember 2022from 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Assistant Professor Ms. Delisha Rebello was the compere for the session.Asst. Prof. Ms. Abigale Rodrigues introduced the Resource Person.

Mr. Nixon Fernandes told the students about the All-India level exam that recruits eligible candidates for dignified posts in IRDA and briefed the students regarding the insurance and different types of insurance and explained to them all the subcategories of insurance.

The second session of IRDA was conducted on 19th September 2022 from 12:15 p.m. to 1.15 p.m. During the second session,students were made aware of the terms and conditions of insurance contracts, also the rights and obligations of the insurer, policyholder, and the insured person upon conclusion and performance of a contract. He also told students that working with an insurer after an accident is crucial to get the claim settled rightly and explained to them the procedure for making a claim after an incident.

On 18th October 2022 from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m, the third session of IRDA training was conducted. Mr. Nixon highlighted the importance of insurance and its principles for candidates appearing for insurance exams such as LIC, NICL, NIACL, and IRDA. To ensure the proper functioning of an insurance contract, the insurer and the insured must uphold the 7 principles of Insurance which were explained to them with the help of examples.

The fourth session was conducted on 25th October 2022 from 12:15 p.m. to 1.15 p.m.to explain the entire procedure of registration for the exam. The session ended with a brief revision of all the topics that were covered during all the sessions.

Bookmark Making Competition

The Readers’ Club organised a Bookmark Making Competition from 21st September to 6th October, 2022 to commemorate World Gratitude Day. The theme for the competition was ‘Gratitude is the best Attitude’. Participants were asked to design the bookmarks at home and submit on a stipulated day i.e., on 6th October 2022.

The competition received 14 entries, of which 3 were declared winners. The judges for the competition were Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Ms. Marjina Shaikh, Assistant Professor in Commerce. Ms. Mrunali Chari and Namrata Chari from FY B. Com won the first and second prize respectively and Ms. AemishaAzavedo from TY B. Com bagged the third place.

The prize was distributed at the hands of Vice Principal Dr. Edwin B. Baretto. The competition was coordinated by Ms. Koel Jana, Student member of Readers’ Club.
