ICT workshop for non-teaching staff of VVM

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell organised “A workshop on ICT for Administrative staff of VVM Institutions” from 7th October to 4th November 2022 on every Tuesday and Friday. The workshop was attended by Non-teaching staff of Shree Damodar College, RMS Higher Secondary School and Vidya Vikas Academy. A total of 28 staff members attended the workshop. The Resource Persons for the workshop were Mr. Punarva Prabhu Dessai, System Administrator, SDCCE, Ms. Pradnya Nadkarni, Lab. Instructor (IT), SDCCE and Ms. Usha Gauncar, LDC, RMS HSS

In the first session conducted on 7th October 2022, Mr. Punarva Prabhu Dessai explained about the dos and don’ts for taking physical care of the system. This included knowledge about charging, cleaning, hinges, shutting down, updates etc. He also informed how a system slows down and what we can do to prevent it. He further explained about better organization of folders, saving, passwords etc. He shared tips to name folders and files, so that anyone can locate documents in the absence of the dealing hand.

 

Ms. Pradnya Nadkarni conducted two sessions one on 11th & other on 18th October 2022 on how to use Gmail more efficiently. She covered topics like Type of Accounts, Main Menu Views, Organizing Inbox, Creating Labels, Search and Filter emails, Archive an email, Report as Spam, deleting email, Mark as unread, Snooze an email, Add email to task, Move to, Labelling email, Mark as important email, Star an email with different colours, Create an event, Mute an email, forward all email, Schedule email, Confidential email, Create email Template, Auto reply an email, Auto forward email, Vacation email, Un-send an email, Create email signature, Create email signature using free online signature generator, Email shortcut Keys, How to secure your email account and Email Etiquettes.

On 25th October & 1st November 2022, Ms. Pradnya conducted sessions on Google Workspace. During these two sessions, she covered topics like Google Drive: Create folder, folder sharing, upload files, file sharing and collaborating, organize your files, creating files, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Creating Templates, and Google Contacts. She also demonstrated Creating forms, Creating Quiz, Google Calendar: Creating Events and Task, Setup New Calendar, Sharing Calendar etc.

On 14th October 2022, Ms. Usha Gauncar conducted a session on WPS Writer -Text formatting, alignment, Font, Paragraph & line spacing, Bullets & numbering, Find & replace, format painter, Inserting header, footer, page border, page colour, watermark, Views, Page setup for printing, page break and Template.

On 21st October 2022, Ms. Usha covered topics such as WPS Writer & Presentation – Insert objects like picture, table, shapes, WPS art and their formatting, insert text from file, insert file object, Word count, thesaurus, export to PDF, Creation of slides, formatting, slide design, Animation and transitions, Views and slideshow.

On 28th October and 4th November 2022, Ms. Usha covered topics such as WPS Spreadsheet -Referencing (absolute, relative, mixed), Simple formula (sum, count, max, min…), Auto filter and advanced filters, Pivot table for data analysis, VLOOKUP formula, Date functions, If formula, Subtotal, Conditional formatting and Sorting.

The 9-Day ICT workshop was coordinated by Dr. Lina Sadekar, IQAC Coordinator.

Online Certificate Course – ‘Global Marketing Research and Analytics’

The Department of Management of the College encouraged the TY BBA(Financial Services) students, currently enrolled for  Marketing of Financial Services course in Semester V, to pursue an online certificate course titled ‘Global Marketing Research and Analytics’ from 17.10.2022 to 03.11.2022. The online certificate course comprised of four hours on-demand video lectures and it was offered by Udemy – a global leader in virtual education. The course content was created and instructed by Dr. Hector Gonzalez-Jimenez, Full Professor in Marketing at ESCP Business School in Madrid. The course was also offered by reputed corporations like NASDAQ, Volkswagen, etc., to their employees.

The online certificate course was offered to the students with the following objectives: develop a critical awareness of the importance of other information and research in marketing decisions in light of a complex global environment, develop a systematic understanding of marketing research approaches and techniques, develop a critical appreciation of the additional challenges arising when marketing research is conducted across borders, its causes, and potential solutions and develop a critical appreciation of most recent developments in marketing metrics and analytics (including “big data”).

Certificate Course in Financial Markets for Second Year Students

The SY Certificate Course Committee initiated an Online certificate course completion plan for the Second Year students of B.Com and BBA(FS). The objective of this initiative was to create awareness about the various platforms available for learners to do free online certificate courses.

SY Students as a part of completing their Assignment component in the subject of Indian Securities Market for BBA(FS) & Indian Capital Markets for B.Com had to compulsorily complete either of the options given below as a certificate course.

Introduction to Stock Markets – Varsity by Zerodhafrom Varsity Application/website

Students were given a time limit of 1 month to complete the certificate course as selected by them from the options. Students selecting Option A, had to mandatorily complete all 4 courses and submit certificates with report, while students selecting option B had to submit the completion certificate with a report. The completion dates were 1st Aug- 30th Sept, 6th Aug-12th Sept and 7th Oct-7th Nov 2022. Hence, every student completed the course in 30 hours.

The Courses given as options to the students are from Corporate Finance Institute and Varsity by Zerodha. These platforms have different levels of courses in financial markets which will help the students learn at their own pace and receive certifications which will be an add-on in their academic career. Varsity is a financial education initiative of Zerodha which includes different levels of courses in financial markets. Students received the certificate upon completion of the course and answering the quiz.

85 students completed the courses. The teacher in charge for BBA(FS) was Ms. Delisha Rebello, for B.Com were Dr. Maithili Naik & Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar. The overall in-charge was Ms. Swati Bhat.

Achieversof Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Championship (Men &Women) 2022-2023

Mr. Omkar Verlekar from FY BBA(FS) participated in All Goa Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Championship 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Silver Medal in upto & incl. 58 kg weight category.

 

 

Mr. Uddhav Pai Talkatkar from FY BBA(FS) participated in All Goa Inter-collegiate Taekwondo Championship (Men) 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Bronze Medal in upto & incl. 63 kg weight category.

 

 

Mr. Muheet Bhat from SY B.Voc had participated in All Goa Inter-collegiate Taekwondo Championship (Men) 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Silver Medal in Above 87 kg weight category.

 

 

Ms. Namrata Singh from FY BBA(FS) participated in All Goa Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Championship (Women) 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Bronze Medal in upto & incl. 46 kg weight category.

Achievers of Inter-Collegiate Championship 2022-2023

Mr. Alton Almeida from FY B.COM participated in All Goa Inter-collegiate Weightlifting & Powerlifting Championship 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Gold Medal in Weightlifting upto& incl. 55 kg weight category and silver medal in powerlifting upto& incl. 59 kg weight category.

 

Mr. Vedank Raut Dessai from SY BCA participated in All Goa Inter-collegiate Weightlifting & Powerlifting Championship 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Silver Medal in Weightlifting in upto & incl. 96 kg weight category and silver medal in Powerlifting in upto& incl. 105 kg weight category.

 

Mr. Darren Coutinho from SY B.VOC participated in All Goa Inter-collegiate Powerlifting Championship 2022-2023 organized by Goa University and won Bronze medal in upto & Incl. 83 kg weight category.

Unity Run

The Department of Physical Education & Sports and NSS unit of the College organized Unity Run, on 31st October 2022 from 8.00 am to 9.30 am. Unity Run was organized to celebrate Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel and to spread the message of National unity among the youth. The Unity Run started from the College Entrance to Kharebhand Bridge to Zudio Store at Kharebhand, Varca- Margao Road and back to the College Entrance. The total distance covered was 3 kms. 60 students and 5 faculty participated in the Unity Run.

Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports and Mr. Gajanan Haldankar, Assistant Professor in Commerce initiated and conducted this event

Field Trip to Rasraj Farm

The Department of Commerce & Management organised a Field Trip to Rasraj Farms, Mollem, Goa on 29th October 2022 as a part of the courses – Entrepreneurship Development & New Venture Planning. The objective of the field visit was to provide experiential and contextualized understanding of practical aspects in the area of entrepreneurship. The fieldtrip also aimed to develop deeper understanding of the farming entrepreneurial venture amongst the students.

Students were welcomed by the farm owner Mr. Vandit Naik who explained his entrepreneurial journey and his interest in agro business. He took students on a farm tour and explained the concept of integrated farming and highlighted the use of advanced techniques in farming. He further demonstrated the techniques of bee-keeping and grafting practiced in his farm. Ms. Priyanka Naik took up a special session on vermicomposting and dairy farming. She showed students various methods of potting and garden management. She pointed out the importance of using modern technology in agriculture.

Mr. Vandit also explained the journey of his father who purchased the land and developed it into a farm eventually. He also mentioned his struggles and difficulties faced in developing the farm to its present state.  He shared the details of subsidies that he availed for cultivation of different crops. He also highlighted the role of the Government in promoting and supporting entrepreneurship in the state of Goa. He motivated students to avail government schemes and other financial assistance to become entrepreneurs.

Dr. Rodney D’Silva, Mr. Ainsley Bernard, Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Ms. Pooja Shanbhag, Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar, Ms. Swati Bhat & Ms. Priyanka Thanekar were the overall in charge of the field trip. 93 students of SY B.Com were a part of this field visit.  It was a very informative fieldtrip and a great experience for the students and the faculty members.

Investor Hub Activity-Innovative Product Advertising

The Department of Management organized Investor Hub activity “Innovative Product Advertising” for the students of FY, SY and TY BBA(FS) on 29th October 2022. FY BBA students came up with innovative products that they had to pitch based on four major aspects -Benefits of the product, Unique selling point, target audience and pricing of the product.

Asst. Prof. Mr. Omkar Pawaskar and Asst. Prof. Ms. Abigale Rodrigues explained the basic concept of pitching the products as an entrepreneur and the time allotted to each team for discussion and presentation. The activity was held in two classes with four teams each. The products offered to the teams were Cloud sofa, Chewtoy Dog toothbrush, Dream recorder, Animal language translator, A smart coffee maker with handprint, Bath stones to heat water, an electromagnetic dumbbell that adapts as per your weight and UV light disinfecting towel dryer.

All the teams defended their products with vigour and enthusiasm. The judges for the event were Asst. Professors Abigale Rodrigues, Anirudha Munj and Omkar Pawaskar. 69 students participated in the activity, which ended at 12:30 pm

Guest Session on ‘Management of Working Capital’

The PG Department of Commerce organized a Guest Session on the topic ‘Management of Working Capital’ on 29th October 2022. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Suraj Dessai, Finance Manager, Danlaw Electronics Assembly Limited, Verna Industrial Estate. The main objective of the session was to provide practical insights of working capital management. Ms. Valencia Baptista, Asst. Prof. in Commerce welcomed the audience and gave a brief overview of the importance of the session. Ms. Shruti Pai Khot from M.Com Part I introduced the Resource Person.

Mr. Suraj Dessai commenced the session with an activity to demonstrate effective utilization of resources. He proceeded with the activity by making 2 teams: M.Com-I and M.Com-II, each team comprising one leader and 5 members. The outcome of the activity was that Team M.Com-II was ahead of the other team in terms of effective leadership, proper communications, time management and patience. Hence Team M.Com-II was declared as the winner. The Resource Person further added that in the process of any task accomplishment; planning in terms of availability of resources and time management is very important as this contributes to effective utilization of resources.

Thereafter Mr. Suraj presented the audience with a Case Study of Working Capital Management of Danlaw company. Here, he mentioned how Danlaw Company managed its receivables during Covid-19 Pandemic by focussing on Accounts receivables, bill discounting, advances from existing customers to support the production, Revenue Model, cash forecast, weekly sales, debtors and creditors ageing forecast. He explained how his team discussed and identified possible factors causing increase in credit. He also covered the roles of supply chain department, marketing team involvement and most importantly, the role of finance department in all the aspects of the company. He also covered risk return trade-off, opportunities and challenges faced and action plan of Danlaw Company and factors affecting the success and failure of decision-making process.

The session was very informative and helped the students in understanding the various practicalities of Management of Working Capital during crisis. The students raised various queries, which the Resource Person readily answered. The session ended at 12:30 p.m. and Mr. Hassan Raza from M.Com Part I proposed the Vote of Thanks. A total of 57 M.Com students attended the session.
