An Interactive Session On “Identity Development” By Counseling Cell

The Counseling Cell organized an interactive group session on ‘Identity Development’ on 28th January 2023. The session was held for a small group of undergraduate students. The session was aimed at a small group of participants in order to encourage the students to share their ideas and interact with one another in a more approachable way.

The facilitator of the session was Ms. Eshani Bakhle, College Counselor. She commenced the session by giving a brief introduction to the definition and elements of Identity. The session had three different activities that explained the development and elements of identity. The students gave creative responses during the session.

James Marcia’s theory of identity development was discussed as well. This theory explains the four stages of identity development, viz. diffusion, foreclosure, moratorium, and achievement. The session concluded with ways of exploring identity. The session ended at 11.15 am.

Students Participation at NEOSIS 2023

Students of the Computer Science Department were the Runners Up in the National Level Intercollegiate Technical event “NOESIS 2023″ organized by Rosary College, on 27th & 28th January 2023. 15 colleges had participated in the event.

Niraj Naik, Prithvi Shirodkar, Darren Dias, Yashodhan Sawardekar, Prinson Fernandes Clayton Araujo, Sherwin Rodrigues and Ishaan Lotlikar participated in the event and won various individual events like CyberWhiz, Bug Squashers, Code Hunt, Creativity etc.

Session on A Guide for Resume Designing

The Career Cell of the College organized a session on a Guide for Resume Designing for the students of B.Com and BBA(FS). Ms. Sejal Naik, student from FY B.Com-B compered the session and welcomed the Resource Person. Ms. Siya Shirodkar, student from FY B.Com B introduced the Resource Person for the day, Ms. Alfiya Baig, Career Counsellor at CII, MCC Goa

Ms. Baig started the session by asking the students the difference between a Resume and a CV. She then explained the need for a resume and what should be kept in mind before preparing a resume. The Resource Person also explained different sections of the resume and the purpose each section serves. She also stressed on the importance of proof reading the resume before submitting it to the corporates and suggested some tips which would help the students to make their resume more attractive and unique. She also showed the students how to make a resume using online tools like Canva.

At the end of the session Ms. Baig answered the queries raised by the students. Ms. Taniya Rekdo, student from FY B.Com B proposed the Vote of Thanks for the session. A total of 42 students attended the session.

Mental Health Session

Gomantak Young Inspirators Network in association with VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics organized a session on “Mental Health” on 25th January 2023 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Hall 2 of the Central Block of the College. 50 students of the B.Com programme were a part of this session. Mental health being an important area particularly with reference to the youth, this session aimed to help students develop resilience and work towards growing into healthy, well-rounded adults.

The session commenced with a brief introduction about mental health by the compere Ms. Abha Naik, a student of FY B.Com. The Resource Person for the session was Mrs. Ketaki Parob Gadekar, a psychologist and transformational speaker who is also the Founder and President of Wow Foundation.

The Resource Person began with a set of mental health check-in questions that maybe used to understand feelings of individuals. Mrs. Gadekar also displayed the feelings wheel which contained a plethora of words that could be used by everyone to express themselves along with an emotional awareness checklist. She spoke about chemicals in the body that increase happiness and also explained the components of emotional intelligence. She highlighted different ways to become mentally stronger and take care of mental health. She concluded the session by sharing her experiences through practical examples and cases that she had come across.

Ms. Hester Carvalho, a student of FY B.Com proposed the Vote of Thanks. Assistant Professor Ms. Stesa Pereira, Convenor of Young Inspirators Network was the faculty in charge of coordinating the session.

Essay Writing Competition on “National Voters’ Day”

To commemorate National Voter’s Day, the NSS Unit of the College organized an Essay Writing Competition on the topic “Why should you vote?”. A total of 26 NSS students participated in the Competition. The students were instructed to submit their essays by 12 pm on 25th January.

The winners of the essay writing competition were: 1st place: Esha Pai Fondekar of TY BCOM-B, 2nd place: Kainaaz Khatun of TY BCOM-B and 3rd place: Queenie V Rodriguez of SY BCOM-B.

The activity was coordinated by NSS PO In charge Gajanan B. Haldankar, NSS PO Sanjay Velip and NSS PO Namrata Ugvekar.

Extension Activity: Session on “Basics of Stock Market Investing”

The Department of Management of the College conducted extension activity for RMS students. A session was conducted on 27th January 2023 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The topic for the session was “Basics of Stock Market Investing”. A total of 80 students from RMS Higher Secondary School attended the session.

The Resource Person for the session were ex-students Mr Amey Natekar, Service Officer HDFC & Mr Sagar Bandodkar, NISM Distributor.

A student from FYBBA(FS) introduced the speakers for the session. The first speaker, Mr Amey Natekar started the session by giving introduction about the financial markets. He explained various investment avenues available for investors. The second speaker, Mr. Sagar Bandodkar started the session by sharing the journey of Sensex. He explained the various past events such as US recession, NDA elections, Subprime crisis, covid Pandemic which have impacted stock market.  He also shared his experience of trading during the markets downfall and how markets have rewarded the investors which have stayed invested for longer duration.

The speaker highlighted important reasons why India as a country is good for investment by comparing it to the other neighboring countries with the GDP rate and other factors. He also shared the list of stock brokers and the procedure to open the Demat account which is required for stock trading.

The speaker conducted a quiz to which students gave a very good response. A total of 80 students attended the session. The speakers addressed the questions of the participants. The session ended with a student proposing the Vote of Thanks.

Young Leaders Programme

The Department of Management of the College organized the “Young Leaders Programme”, a community outreach activity from 20th to 31st January 2023. The program is an initiative towards imparting financial literacy to students of Government and aided schools and Higher Secondary Schools in Goa .

A total of 10 Government and aided schools and Higher Secondary Schools i.e., GHS Sadar Ponda, GHSS Swami Vivekanand Borim, GHS Mangeshi, Maria Bambina Convent HSS Cuncolim, GHS Balli, GHS Ganjem Usgao; GHS Sada Zuarinagar, GHS Malkarnem, GHS Dona Paula, and Govt. Multipurpose Higher Secondary School Margao, were covered under this programme.

The students used interactive instruction methods like PowerPoint presentations, Role plays, Quizzes and Games to create awareness on various finance related topics such as fundamentals of savings, investments, banking, scholarships and various government schemes available to students.

The program was well received by the schools and their students. The programme was a great learning experience for the students of BBA(FS). A total of 45 BBA(FS) students conducted the program. The Department of Management looks forward to undertake more such activities ahead.

Cleanliness Drive

The NSS Unit of the College conducted a cleanliness drive in the College campus and surrounding area of Comba on 21st January 2023. 34 NSS volunteers participated in the activity, which started at 12.15 pm and concluded at 1.15 p.m. The volunteers collected all the plastic and paper waste from the campus and its surroundings. The activity was coordinated by NSS PO In charge Mr. Gajanan B. Haldankar, NSS PO Sanjay Velip  and NSS PO Namrata Ugvekar.

‘Sip N Snack Bazaar’

The Department of Economics & Banking of the College organized “Sip n Snack Bazaar” in the College from18th -21st January 2023. The objective of the bazaar was to enable students to gain practical knowledge on pricing of products, markup price, different pricing strategies and profit loss analysis.

120 students from FY B.Com A & D, in 22 groups, had put up eatery stalls such as chutney sandwiches, masala tea, coffee, veg chart, sukha puri, kurkure chaat, corn chaat, fruit chaat, bread chaat, chana chaat, forminhas, fish cone, chicken rolls, custard, fruit salad and so on. The bazaar was set up outside the College canteen

The students enthusiastically participated in the event and learnt various skills. The teachers in charge of the event were Assistant Professors Ms. Pretty Pereira and Ms. Lizette D’Costa from the Department of Economics & Banking.

Tech Week 2023

The Department of Computer Science of the College organised a State level event ‘Tech Week 2023’in collaboration with Goa Technology Association. Techweek is First-of-its-kind State-level event organized by the Department of Computer Science of the College in association with Future Ready from 17th to 20th of January 2023. Many eminent personalities were part of Techweek. Asst. Prof. Ramkrishna Reddy was the Faculty Coordinator of the event and Mr. Atharva Naik was the student coordinator. Students from various higher secondary schools, BCA, B.Sc. (Computer Science /IT), B.E. (Computer Engineering), B.Voc.(Software Technologies/Development) programmes participated in the event. Techweek 2023 was atechno-edutainment event organized to encourage young minds and to provide a platform to showcase their talents.

The Inaugural programme was held in Hall No. 1 of the College. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and a welcome speech by the President of VVM, Shri. Nitin Kunkolienker, who highlighted the importance of such events in promoting technical education and encouraging students to pursue careers in technology. This was followed by the Principal’s address. Mr. Mangirish Salelkar briefed about all the events of Techweek 2023.We were honoured to host Mr. Ralph D’souza, Chairman of GCCI as the Chief Guest at the inaugural function. Mr. Ralph appreciated the institution for organizing the most unique event in the State of Goa and encouraged all the participants of the day with some motivational words. The keynote speaker for the day was Mr. Milind Anvekar, President GTA. Ms. Ekta Agarwal, Founder and CEO – S.S. Technologies, Chairperson, SDCCE Comp. Science Council was also present for the inaugural function. The inaugural concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the student coordinator, Mr. Atharva Naik and MoU was signed with Xerviz Wlobal & 91Hr.

Tech Talk Series

The four TechTalk Series by various Industry experts covering a wide range of technical concepts and ideas for faculties and students of various colleges across Goa.

The TechTalk series started off with Resource Person, Mr. Vikram Pai Raikar, CEO, Valour Creations. Mr. Raikar enthusiastically introduced the attendees to the different fields in Animation like social media, entertainment, education and the gaming industry. He emphasized the three things needed for an Animator: Passion, Industry Experience and time. He further mentioned that animation needs both creativity and technical skills.

The Resource Person for the next session of the series was Mr. Anil Colaco, Founder, Progressive Systems. Mr. Colaco spoke about all the threats that surround our social, business and technical life and the fascinating way in which technology can be used to protect us. He further discussed data privacy and data security.

Mr. Akhilesh Bhise Founder, Innovent was the Resource Person for the third session of the series. An interesting array of topics were covered like Virtual Reality in architectural designs and execution and how Virtual Reality adds value in the architecture field with realistic experience. A live VR demo was given to students and faculties.

Mr. Yashvit Naik, Co-Founder & CTO, Teknorix was the Resource Person for the final session of the series. Mr. Naik explained various concepts of cloud computing like Prem/Datacenter, Bare Metal Server, Virtual Private Server, Containerisation, Virtual Machines, Serverless Computing and Azure SQL. A demo of the live app was shown to the audience.

The TechTalk Series was attended by a total of 6 colleges: Fr. Agnel College of Arts & Commerce (Pilar), Goa Multi Faculty College (Dharbandora), Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts & Science (Margao), Dhempe College of Arts & Science (Panaji), Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce (Khandola) and Carmel College (Nuvem).

The faculty in charge of the TechTalk series was Ms. Shruti Kunkolienkar along with Ms. Siya Gauns Dessai as student coordinator. These sessions were well-attended and received positive feedback from the students.

 

DAY 2 –  Inter-Department Activities Report

The Inter-department Activities were held on Day 2 of Tech Week 2023 between 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. In this event, competitions were held for students of all Programmes of our college. The Competitions were:

DAY 3 – Spectra

Day 3 began with the Inaugural Function of Spectra. Spectra was organized for the Undergraduate college students from Computer Science and Information Technology from across the state of Goa. Registrations began at 8:30am on 19th Jan 2023 wherein 11 Colleges with 152 Participants registered for the Spectra Events and for Gaming events.

The Inaugural Function of Spectra was held at 10am on 19th Jan 2023. Dignitaries present were Principal Prof. Prita D. Mallya , Vice Principal Dr. Edwin Barreto along with Mr. Sumit Kumar, Head of Department of Computer Science, Mr. Ramkrishna Reddy, TechWeek Coordinator and Ms. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar, Spectra Coordinator.

Principal delivered the Welcome Address and conveyed her wishes to all the Participating teams. 9 Onstage / Offstage and Lab Events along with Gaming events were held over the course of the day.

Day 3 events ended at 5:30pm.

The Business Idea competition was also held on the 3rd day of Tech Week 2023 from 11.30 am onwards. Six teams participated in this competition. CA Vinayak Dhumtakar and Dr Edwin Barreto, Vice Principal were the Judges for the competition. The objective of the Business Idea competition was for the young minds to present their skillset to start their own business.

 

DAY 4 – SPECTRA

Spectra 2023 events continued on Day 4 i.e. on 20th January 2023 from 9am onwards and ended at 11:30am. All the Prize Winners of each event were given a Certificate and a Trophy at the Valedictory Function.

The Prizes of all events were handed over by the dignitaries present at the Valedictory function.

Round Table Discussion

Round Table Discussion was facilitated by skilled moderator Mr. Mangirish Salelkar, Co-Founder & CEO Umang Group. Renowned experts from IT industry, Institutions and Financial Sector chaired the panel discussion. Mr. Prasad Sawant, CEO, Buoyancy Consultant & Engineering LLP, CA Gaurav Kenkre, Chairperson Goa ICAI, Mr. Milind Prabhu, Chairman IT committee, GCCI, Mr. Rohin Parkar, CEO, Spintly, Mr. D.S Prashant, CEO FIIRE, Mr. Rohan Warty, CEO Xerviz Wlobal and Prof. Prita D. Mallya, Principal Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics were present.

Round Table Discussion was attended by students and faculties of 6 different colleges across Goa and IT professionals from various Organizations. The topic for the round table was “Demystifying IT Industry in Goa”. The discussion started with Mr. Mangirish Salelkar giving a brief introduction of all the Panelists present and then started with the Q&A session for the IT experts. Topics like how to bridge the gap between Industry and Academia, Healthy ecosystem for startups, solving practical challenges faced by the IT industry in Goa, funding and various relevant topics were discussed. Q&A session was held for the audience. Ms. Shruti Kunkolienkar was faculty coordinator for the event and Ms. Pranjali Naik was the Student Coordinator.

The Valedictory Function of Tech Week 2023 began at 3 pm. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Vivek Kamat, Director Technical Education. Mr. Mangirish Salelkar, Co-Founder & CEO, Umang Group and Principal Prof. Prita D. Mallya were present for the valedictory function.

The Chief Guest highlighted the importance of Knowledge in this generation and appreciated the initiative taken by the College for organizing Tech Week 2023 in collaboration with Future Ready events.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mr. Ramkrishna Reddy, Techweek coordinator who acknowledgedall the Sponsors and the organizing Team and Student Volunteers. Participants appreciated the Organizing and Hospitality received at the College campus on all 4 days of Techweek 2023.
