Chief Guest, Keynote Speaker & Resource Person for the National Workshop on “Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 Industry Institute Linkage”

Pune District Education Association’s, Waghire College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Saswad, organized a National Workshop on “Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 Industry Institute Linkage” on 27th& 28th February 2023. Dr. Anjali Sajilal was invited as Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker for the inaugural session. Principal Dr. Pandit Shelke welcomed the gathering and gave brief introduction about the College and the workshop. In the Keynote address, Dr. Anjali Sajilal highlighted the various aspects related to Implementation of NEP 2020. She also covered the need of Industry Institute linkage and the curriculum on Industry Institute Linkage. The other sessions were conducted on “Implementation on NEP 2020” by Dr. Sanjay Chakane, “Role of teachers in NEP 2020” by Dr Pandit Vidyasagar, and “Alignment Strategy for implementation of NEP 2020” by Dr C.N. Rawal

On the second day 28th February Dr. Anjali Sajilal conducted a Session on “Institutional Development Plan- First Step towards implementation of NEP 2020”, “Skills required for Entrepreneurship” by Prof. Maya Salimath and “ICT enabled Teaching & Learning” by Prof Pavan Kumar Reddy. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr Kishore Lipare, workshop coordinator.

Inter-Class Cricket Tournament (Men & Women)

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized Inter-class Cricket Tournament for Men & Women on 25th and 27th February 2023 on Kare Law College Ground from 11.30 am onwards. A total of 19 teams (17 men’s & 02 women’s) participated in the tournament.

The tournament commenced with briefing about all the rules and regulations of the tournament by Mr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports. The tournament was played on knock-out basis and fixtures were designed by picking of lots. All the matches were of 3 overs each for Men and Women.

Session on e-Resources & e-Books: A Guide

The NDLI club of the College in association with Department of Library & Information Science and Department of Computer Science conducted a guiding session on e-resources and e-books available for the College students & faculty members on 17th February 2023 from 12.00 pm till 01.00 pm.

The session started with the introduction of various facilities available under the purview of the College library in physical and digital form & ways to access them. The College Librarian Ms. Manasi Rege was the Resource Person for the session. She outlined the various online e-resources available and explained how to search, locate, access, and explore them. She specifically mentioned the purpose and demonstrated the ways to explore NDLI, Pearson, N-List & Indiastat portals to the audience.

Participants interacted with the Resource Person and got their doubts cleared. The session was attended by 110 students and 11 faculty members of the Department and concluded at 01.00 pm.

“Interpersonal Skills”

The FY Certificate Course Committee had organized a session on “Interpersonal Skills” as a part of Certificate Course in 21st century Life Skills for the students of FY BBA(FS), BBA & B.Com students on 17th February 2023 from 12:15 pm to 1:30 pm in the Smart Classroom. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Snigdha Naik, Assistant Professor in English, M.E.S College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar. The objective of the session was to help the students to improve Interpersonal Skills, which could help them to express what you really mean, connect better with others and build stronger more rewarding relationships. A total of 35 students attended the program.

Mr. Mahek Shaikh, a student from FY BBA(FS)-A welcomed and introduced the Resource Person to the audience. The speaker took over the session by explaining the meaning of the Interpersonal skills, it’s importance and types of interpersonal skills. The speaker focused on the 4 rhetorical qualities of an argument that make it truly persuasive those were Logos, Ethos, Pathos and Kairos. Later the quest speaker explained the different elements of Interpersonal Skills such as Conflict management, Positive attitude and Empathy with the help of relevant examples and also shared the measures to improve interpersonal Skills. She demonstrated how mind mapping is been practiced by conducting an activity. Later she assigned a task to do SWOT Analysis. She suggested various training methods like Ice breaker, Brain storming, Discussion Leading, Buzz grouping, Case study, Experiential Learning that could help to build interpersonal skills.

The speaker at the end of the session addressed the queries raised by the students. The students found the session very informative and enlightening. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Akshada Salkar, a student of FY BBA(FS)-A.

Session on Careers in Entrepreneurship

The Career and Placement Cell of the College in collaboration with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India organised a session on Entrepreneurship as a Career Choice for the B.Com students on Friday, 17th February 2023 in online mode using Google Meet platform. The session began at 12.15 p.m. Ms. Sheryl Sanches, Asst. Prof. in Commerce welcomed the participants and introduced the Resource Person Mr. Dinesh Jain, Entrepreneurship Development Institute. Mr. Jain, in his presentation explained to the students what is entrepreneurship and the skills required to be an entrepreneur. He gave the examples of famous young entrepreneurs and narrated their success stories. Mr. Jain discussed some of the rewards of entrepreneurship like being the boss, opportunity to be creative, etc. He also shared some of the challenges that an individual has to face as an entrepreneur.

Mr. Jain discussed reasons as to why entrepreneurship is a good career choice and familiarised the students with the qualities one should possess in order to be a successful entrepreneur. Towards the end of the session, Mr. Jain addressed the queries raised by the students. Ms. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar proposed the Vote of Thanks for the session. Altogether, 37 students participated in this session.

“Shaping Young Minds Programme”

All India Management Association (AIMA) in collaboration with Goa Management Association had organised Shaping Young Minds Programme on 16th February, 2023. Students of FY BBA(FS), SY BBA(FS) and FY BBA attended the programme at the NIO Auditorium, Dona Paula. 105 students attended the programme with two faculty members Mr. Anirudha Munj, Assistant Professor in Management and Ms. Vinaya Kirloskar, Assistant Professor in Commerce.

The Shaping Young Minds Programme has been designed to offer young students an opportunity to engage with notable personalities and gain from their experiences. The guest speakers for the programme were:

Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman & Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd.
Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister & Former Sherpa for G20.
Ambassador Gurjit Singh, IFS, Former Diplomat and Ambassador.
Ritu Beri, a renowned Fashion Designer.

The Shaping Young Minds Programme was divided into four sessions and it began with the inaugural session by Lighting of lamp and Saraswati Vandana. Mr. Deepak Bandekar, Chairman of Goa Management Association addressed the programme and Ms. Rekha Sethi, Director General, All India Management Association gave the introductory remarks.

The Shaping Young Minds Programme started off with a captivating session at 9:30 am, featuring Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar, the Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, as the speaker. Mr. Blaise Costabir, the President ofGMA and the Managing Director of GMI Zarhak Moulders Pvt Ltd, presided over the session. Mr. Kirloskar’s speech was both engaging and inspiring. He began by giving a brief history of the Kirloskar family and their entrepreneurial journey, starting with Shri. Laxmanrao K. Kirloskar, who was a diligent money lender. Mr. Kirloskar shared a few anecdotes that demonstrated the qualities of entrepreneurship and how they had been instilled in him since his childhood. He also spoke about how Kirloskar Brothers Ltd has made significant contributions to society, including spearheading the global green revolution, empowering women, expanding its business into countries such as the UK and the US, and building entrepreneurship by outsourcing work to over 350 small and medium-scale enterprises.

The speaker spoke about the company association with Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) in establishing its business online. This was followed by an Interactive session where he was asked about 3 business mantras he follows, difficulties he encountered in his early life, work-life balance, long term goals, role models, advice on acquiring the necessary habits and attitude to become high achievers. The first session ended by thanking Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar for motivating young minds and Mr. Blaise L. Costabir for moderating the session.

The second session of SYMP was an exciting one that began at 11:05 am, featuring Mr. Suresh Prabhu, the Former Union Minister, and Former Sherpa, as the speaker, and Mr. Raman Madhok, the Former Executive President of Zuari Agro Chemicals, as the session chair. Mr. Prabhu shared his life journey and offered insights into the future of politics, along with the valuable life lessons he has learned along the way. During the interactive session, he spoke about how our present education system is hindering our ability to think creatively and advised the students to trust themselves and their instincts, rather than blindly following the advice of others. He encouraged the youngsters to look ahead and recognize the abundance of opportunities available in the world.

The third session got underway at 1:20 pm. Ambassador Gurjit Singh, IFS, a former diplomat and ambassador, spoke at the event, which was moderated by Mr. Nitin Kunkolienker, President Emeritus of Manufacturers Association (MAIT). The speaker, Mr. Gurjit Singh, shared a few of his life’s experiences that he found to be very instructive and quoted from his book “The Harambee Factor,” which is a compilation of his own experiences, conversations with participating organizations, and interactions with African and Indian businessmen, academics, and institutional leaders. To succeed in life, the speaker advised the audience to discover their purpose and passion. Many students were eager to ask Mr. Singh questions, but were constrained by the time factor.

The fourth session of the Shaping Young Minds Programme was by Mrs. Ritu Beri, a renowned fashion designer. The session was moderated by Ms. Sheetal Pai Kane, who led a discussion about Beri’s journey from being an intern to a successful fashion designer, showcasing her designs at the prestigious Paris Fashion show. During her talk, Ms. Beri emphasized the rich cultural heritage of India and how it has influenced her designs, giving her an edge over her competitors in the fashion industry. She shared her insights on how to build a sustainable brand while maintaining style and elegance, which was highly appreciated by the audience.

The programme ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Rajesh Mehrotra, Vice Chairman, Goa Management Association. The sessions were excellently conducted, and the students walked away with a wealth of new knowledge.

Session on “Role of Personnel in Software Industry”

A session was conducted on the topic “Role of Personnel in Software Industry” for the students of SY BCA, FY B.Voc and SY B.Voc on 16th Feb 2023 from 11:15 am to 12:45 pm by the Dept. of Computer Science in Hall 2. The Resource Person for the same was Mr. Gaurav Talwadker, Director, Enterprise Architect, Harvard Business School, Salesforce, New York City. The Welcome address was given by Vice Principal Dr. Edwin Barreto, floral welcome was done by Ms. Sweta Verenkar, Introduction of the guest was done by Ms. Rama Borkar.

Mr. Gaurav spoke about the journey of a fresher in the industry and how self-learning and certifications play an important part for getting higher roles in the ever-changing IT world. He explained the various types of IT companies and their working styles. He encouraged students to try out the various areas of interests in IT sector and be self-motivated. The talk ended with a question-and-answer session in which many students cleared their doubts about the work culture in IT companies, road maps and also emerging trends in the sector.

A total of 82 students attended the session. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Girija Gaonkar. The Compering for the session was done by Mr. Malik Rehan Neglore from SY B.Voc. The teacher in-charge for the session was Ms. Rama Borkar.

Fieldtrip to Reserve Bank of India, Panaji

As part of the Financial Literacy Week from 13th to 17th February 2023, the Department of Economics & Banking organized a field trip for the Banking students of FY and TY B.Com, to RBI, Panaji on 16th February 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 01:30 p.m. The students were accompanied by the Head of the Department, Dr. Lira M. Gama, along with Asst. Prof. Ms. Pretty Pereira and Asst. Prof. Ms. Lizette D’Costa of the Department of Economics & Banking.

A team of five RBI officials comprising Ms. Sandra Rodrigues, Mr. Cassian Gomes, Mr. Nimish Raje, Mr. Clint Joseph, and Mr. Praful Thakur, briefed the students on various important topics related to banking.

At the outset, Ms. Sandra Rodrigues welcomed the students and teachers present and introduced the team and the schedule of the session. Mr. Cassian Gomes commenced the session by emphasizing the significance of being financially literate. He spoke about RBI and its main duty, that of regulating all the banks encompassing nationalized banks, private sector banks, and cooperative banks. He stressed how people should know where and how to save and invest. Mr. Gomes encouraged students to visit the website of ‘National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE)’ which is an e-learning management system and covers various topics on banking. He also displayed the operation of this site to the students. He further spoke on matters like currency chests, soiled and mutilated notes, retention limits of banks, etc. Mr. Clint Joseph addressed the topic of complaint redressal mechanisms wherein he skilfully covered various issues like complaint exclusion lists, dealing with fraudulent/ failed transactions, safe digital banking practices, and the modus operandi of financial fraud. Mr. Praful Thakur and Mr. Nimish Raje jointly spoke on printing of currency and coins, calculation of bank rates, the essence of the monetary policy committee, mandates, investment avenues, schemes, exams, qualifications required, pay scales, important sites like IBPS, careers, etc. This was followed by an interactive session wherein students posed many questions to the officials and clarified many of their doubts.

The session ended at 01:30 p.m. with lunch provided by the RBI office to the students and teachers present. A total of 40 students attended the field trip.
