Excellence in Cricket

The College participated in the Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship organized by Goa University from March 10th to April 6th, 2023. The SDCCE team played exceptionally well and qualified for the semi-finals after defeating V.M. Salgaoncar College of Law, Miramar in the quarters. Of 44 colleges that participated, our college made it to the semi-finals, where we played against Government College Khandola but unfortunately did not qualify.

Coaching Camps for Sports

To prepare the College players for the upcoming Intercollegiate Championships, the Department of Physical Education and Sports organized several coaching camps from January 30th to April 3rd, 2023. These camps aimed to enhance the students’ skills and fitness levels, ensuring that they were well-equipped to participate in the championship events.

Participation of NSS Volunteers and NSS PO in NSS Adventure Camp, Pre-RD Parade, National Integration Camps (NIC) and National Youth Festival

4 TY B.Com NSS volunteers of the College and 1 NSS PO were selected and got opportunity to represent the state at different adventure camps, National Integration Camp (NIC) Pre-RD Camp and National Youth Festival (NYF). The details are as follows.

Ms. Parmesh Chauhan was selected for NSS Adventure Camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), at Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, from 18th to 27th October 2022.

Ms. Kainaz Khatun was selected forNSS Adventure Camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), Manali (Solang) from 15th to 24th November 2022.

Mr. Anand Chauhan was selected for NSS Adventure Camp at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, from 20th to 29th November 2022.

Ms. Sita Gupta was selected for West Zone NSS Pre-Republic Day Parade Camp-2022 from 20th -29th November 2022 at Anand, Gujrat.

NSS PO Gajanan B. Haldankar and NSS Volunteer Prajay S. Naik Shirodkar were selected for 26th National Youth Festival NYF at Hubballi – Dharwad, Karnataka from 12th to 16th January 2023.

Mr. Prajay S. Naik Shirodkar was selected for National Integration Camp (NIC) at Sardar Patel University, Anand,Gujarat from 10th to 16th February, 2023.

Participation in Neighbourhood Youth Parliament

To celebrate India’s G20 Presidency, Nehru Yuva Kendra in collaboration with NSS cell of Goa University had organized National Youth Parliament on 29th March 2023 at Carmel College, Nuvem. The theme of the conference was Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam- One Earth, One family, One Future.

The programme covered a variety of sessions namely importance of G20 Presidency, Y20 Youth summit along with the Mission LIFE, International Year of Millets. 29 NSS Volunteers attended and were accompanied by NSS PO In-charge Gajanan B. Haldankar.

Scholarship Distribution Programme

The Department of Management organized Scholarship Distribution Programme on 29th April 2023. The scholarship was given by Blue Cross Lab. Pvt. Ltd. as a CSR initiative. The company is one of the leading research-based pharmaceutical companies in India with over three decades of experience in providing healthcare products to people across the globe with the aim of improving human life.

The compere for the function, SY BBA(FS) student Ms. Inara Fernandes, introduced the company and highlighted various CSR initiatives taken up by the company. The CSR consultant of Blue Cross Lab. Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Dinar Mardolkar was present for the function. He briefed the students about the company and highlighted the purpose of the scholarship and assured them that the company will always provide financial assistance to needy students in the future as well.

5 FYBBA(FS), 5 SYBBA(FS), and 2 TYBBA(FS) students were awarded a scholarship of Rs. 15000/- each. Mr. Dinar Mardolkar and Prof. Dr. Prita D. Mallya handed over the scholarship certificates to the students.

Awareness Session on Pearson Digital Library

The Department of Library and Information Science in collaboration with the Department of Commerce & Management conducted an awareness session on Pearson Digital Library for FY & SY B.Com students. The Resource person for the session was Mr. Priyank Vyas from Pearson Digital Library, Pune.

Students were briefed on how to use and access the Pearson Digital Library. They were introduced to the different features of the Digital Library. 191 students attended the session, which would help them in their assignments and projects.

30-hour certificate course in IT Infrastructure

The Department of Computer Science in association with IP-Gates; a Goa based IT training company organized a 30-hour certificate course for BCA students to help them get theoretical and practical knowledge on IT infrastructure management that is currently demanded by all companies.

The Resource Persons from IP-Gates were Mr. Dwayne Afonso and Ms. Synora Rodrigues. This workshop was free for all students of second year CS Department. 19 students registered for this workshop. The workshop started on 16th March with a short introduction to the course and Resource Persons by faculty member, Mr. Andre Pacheco.

The workshop started with walkthrough of basic fundamentals of IT networking. Students were briefed and given examples on the various building blocks of IT infrastructure. Students were also then taught about installing virtual machines, servers and deploying them. Students also learnt about the various tools to configure, test and setup servers and networks. Students also learnt about core networking technologies and practical requirement to run a company wide network.

The Vice Principal, Dr. Edwin Barreto and Head, Dept. of Computer Science, Mr. Sumit Kumar presented a memento to the Resource Persons during the valedictory ceremony. All the students appreciated the workshop as it gave them an opportunity apart from software development. A couple of students expressed interest in pursuing CCNA certification after attending this workshop. The workshop concluded on 25th March 2023.

Awareness Drive on “Segregation of Waste”

The NSS Volunteers of the College conducted an awareness drive in Comba, Margao on Segregation of waste. The volunteers went from door to door explaining the importance of segregation. The activity was conducted by NSS PO In – charge Mr. Gajanan B. Haldankar, NSS PO Sanjay Velip and NSS PO Namrata Ugvekar.

Stree Vandana

The Women’s Cell of the College organized Stree Vandana– Felicitation of 50 alumnae as a part of International Women’s Day celebrations on 16th March 2023.  The function was organised with the objective to felicitate 50 alumnae achievers over the period of 50 years as part of the College Golden Jubilee Celebration. The 50 invited alumnae were students who have excelled as Chartered Accountants, entrepreneurs, bankers, teachers, artistes, financial advisors, social workers, Government Officers, fashion designers and models, development officers and agents from insurance sector, travel agents, sports and physical education and business women from different sectors. Dr Astrid Monteiro, Executive Committee member of GMA was the Chief Guest.

Ms. Parmesh Chauhan welcomed the audience with her melodious welcome song. Principal Prof. Prita D Mallya welcomed the gathering. Dr Anjali Sajilal, Convenor of Women’s Cell introduced the Chief Guest. Ms. Shudeepa Oli, Gender Champion welcomed the Chief Guest with a flower. Dr Astrid Monteiro, in her address congratulated all the Women Achievers and appreciated the role of each woman in their respective field. Ms. Shruti Kunkolienkar and Ms. Ashwini Devari introduced all the 50 alumnae. 46 alumnae were felicitated by the Chief Guest with a memento and a rose. Some felicitees came forward and shared their feelings on being felicitated and also expressed their willingness to be always associated with the College. Ms. Prerna Sanvordekar &Ms. Aksheta Naik students of FY B.Com were the comperes for the day. Ms. Roshini Khatun performed a solo dance and Ms. Prachi Kumari & group performed a group dance for entertaining the audience. Ms. Nandita Borkar captured the beautiful memories of the event.

The College Rainbow Ambassadors Ms. Roshini Khatun, Ms. Koel Jana, Ms. Saakshi Ganguli, Ms. Sujal Naik along with Ms. Shudeepa Oli & Mr. Omprakash Lenka, student members of Women’s cell and other college volunteers were actively involved in organizing this function.

All the alumnae thanked and appreciated the efforts of the College for taking this initiative. The function ended with the Vote of Thanks by Ms. Aradhana Bandekar.

Stand Up Against Street Harassment

The FY Certificate Course Committee, in association with Breakthrough India, an organization supported by L’Oréal Paris and Hollaback Foundation, organized an online training session on Stand-up against Street Harassment as a part of the Certificate Course in 21st century Life Skills for the students of FY B.Com and  FY BBA (FS) on 16th March 2023. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Sonali Alves, Program Officer, Red Dot Foundation (Safecity). The objective of the session was to train the students on how to respond if faced with any kind of harassment.

Ms. Sonali started the session by discussing what constitutes harassment and how individuals react to harassment. The Resource Person had designed the entire session in the form of opinion polls, where she asked the students to give their opinion as to how they would act if faced with a given kind of harassment. She shared her own harassment experiences with the audience, and discussed the implications of street harassment and how it can impact an individual, socially and financially. Ms. Sonali also focused on the 5Ds (Direct, Distract, Delay, Delegate, Document)as the way to deal with street harassment. She concluded the session by giving the audience three strategies to deal with street harassment, trust your instincts, reclaim your space and practice resilience.

Ms. Anu Sharma, a student of FY B.Com was the compere for the session. Ms. Namrata Chari student of FY B.Com introduced the Resource Person and Ms. Mrunali Chari proposed the Vote of Thanks. The session was attended by 35 B.Com and BBA (FS) students. The session was coordinated by Ms. Marjina Shaikh.
