Anti-Ragging Poster Making Competition

The EBSB Club in collaboration with the Department of Commerce organized “Anti- Ragging Poster Making Competition” for the students of the College on 14th August, 2023 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm in the Smart Classroom. Dr. Edwin Barreto, Head, Department of Commerce & Management and EBSB Club Convenor Mr. Sandesh Gaonkar were the coordinators of the competition. 13 students participated for the same.

The objective was to raise awareness and promote a safe and inclusive environment within our institution. Ragging, a harmful and often humiliating practice, can have severe physical and psychological consequences on students. This competition aimed to encourage students to creatively express their commitment to eradicating ragging through art. The participants displayed their artistic talents and creativity while addressing the serious issue of ragging. The event was characterized by a strong sense of unity among the participants, as they came together to send a powerful message against ragging.

After careful evaluation, the judges selected the top three posters as winners. The winners will be awarded certificates of recognition and attractive prizes as a token of appreciation for their exceptional artwork and commitment to the cause. The First place was secured by Miss Mrunali Chari from SY B.Com-A, Second place was secured by Miss Ruby Mahato SY B.Com- D and Third place was secured by Miss Namrata Chari SY B.Com-A.

Intramural Tennikoit Tournament (Men & Women)

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized Intramural Tennikoit Tournament for Men & Women on 12th & 14th August 2023 in the Multi-Purpose Hall from 12:15 pm. onwards. 13 students participated in the tournament.

The tournament began with an introduction by Dr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, the College Director of Physical Education and Sports. The matches followed a knockout format, and the match schedule was determined through a draw. All matches were contested in a single set consisting of 15 points. However, the matches for the third-place, semifinals, and final rounds were played using a set of 21 points. The winners of the Tennikoit tournament were:

The winners were given trophies. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education.

KYC cum Friendship Day

The Staff Recreation Club organized the KYC (Know-Your-Colleague) cum Friendship Day programme on the 12th of August 2023 at 12:15 p.m. in the College Smart Classroom. The objective of organizing this programme was to introduce each faculty to one another to better acquaint each other as colleagues of the same institution.

Ms. Lizette D’Costa, Assistant Professor in Economics & Banking, welcomed the faculty present by speaking on the essence of healthy relations between co-workers and the importance of having friends in life.

Ms. Marjina Shaikh, Assistant Professor in Commerce and Management requested the faculty present to personally introduce themselves.

Thereafter, a lot of games and spot prizes were conducted as ice-breakers towards achieving the objective of the programme.

The programme ended at 01:30 p.m. with light refreshments served to all present.

Investor Hub Activity 7

The Investor Hub organised an engaging and insightful event on Saturday, 12th August, for the BBA/BBA(FS) students with a focus on empowering future business leaders.

The session commenced with an enlightening presentation titled “Business Spotlight,” conducted by Mr. Suyash Patki from FY BBA(FS) A. He dived into a significant and buzzing topic: “The 28% GST on online gaming.” During his talk, he shared valuable insights about how this particular GST rate impacts the online gaming industry.

Following the insightful session, two engaging activities took place: Hangman and Guess the Icon: Unveil the Voices of Titans. These activities were met with active participation from the students, adding an interactive and fun element to the event. The enthusiasm of the students made these activities even more enjoyable and productive.

The event concluded with newfound knowledge and a better understanding of the complex world of business, finance, and innovation.

InfoFest 2023

The Discipline of Computer Science and Technology at Goa Business School, Goa University organized a two-day event ‘InfoFest 2023’ on 10th& 11th August 2023. The event drew participation from colleges both within and outside Goa, encompassing a diverse range of participants. A contingent of 25 students from the College actively engaged in the event. InfoFest 2023 is an event to create a platform for students to share their ideas, compete, and learn from each other. The event has also featured offline events such as Hackathon (24 Hrs) as well as online events such as CTF and other exciting competitions, providing students with real-world experience in their chosen field.

On Day 1, the event began with the inaugural function, which was followed by three informative talks. After the informative talks, the main competitions commenced. In the Hackathon, a 24-hour coding competition, two of our groups participated. The first group consisted of Bhakti Mirashi (SY B.Voc) and Nester Fernandes (SY B.Voc), while the second group comprised Glyde Rebelo (FY B.Voc), Khushal Naik (FY B.Voc), and Anito Fernandes (FY B.Voc). The participants in this event were tasked with coding for a continuous 24-hour period.

In the VID CRED competition, two of our groups participated. The first group consisted of RoshniPatil (FYBCA) and Valanka Dourado (FYBCA), while the second group included Neeraj Aroskar (SYBCA), Dipam Naik (SYBCA), and Pranav Pawar (SYBCA). In this event, they created a video capturing the entire InfoFest event. In the Astral Coder competition, RaizaVaz (FYBCA) and Akshay Kocharekar (FYBCA) represented our college. Additionally, two of our students, Siddhivinayak (FYBCA) and Magaj (FYBCA), participated in the Cross Fire Debate against Chowgule College. The topic of the debate was “Cybersecurity: Is the responsibility of securing digital data and networks on individuals or the government?” In the Biz-Wiz Business Pitch event, two groups from our college competed. The first group included Siddhivinayak Hadapad and Siddhi Gawade, while the second group consisted of Unnat Mandal and Radhika Dabolkar.

Day 2 began with an informative talk, followed by the event Interface Rumble-UI/UX, in which Malik Rehan participated. In the Cyber Strike event, our students Hayen, Franil, Joven, and Rahul took part. Shreyank Desai and Sujal Naik participated in the Neuro Query Quiz event.

The winners of the competition are as follows:

Mr. Siddhivinayak Hadapad and Ms. Siddhi Gawade from FY BCA secured the 1st place in the Biz-Wiz Business Pitch event. The College secured the 3rd Runner-up place out of 21 colleges. Teachers in charge were Ms. Karishma Tuenkar and Mr. Ramkrishna Reddy.

Activities under Meri Mati Mera Desh Campaign

Meri Mati Mera Desh programme was envisaged as the culminating event of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ that was started on 12th March 2021.  This campaign aims to pay tribute to our beloved ‘Motherland’ and the courageous ‘Veers’ who have made the supreme sacrifice for our nation, by conducting ceremonies at the Panchayat/Village/Institution, Block, Urban Local Body, as well as State and National levels.

Under this campaign, the NSS unit of the College in association with Village Panchayat Seraulim conducted various programs from 9th to 20th August 2023 at Seraulim.

Dedication of Shilaphalakam

On 15th August 2023, the Shilaphalakam was constructed in the primary school building at Seraulim. On the Shilaphalakam, the names of the two veers (freedom fighters) from Seraulim village namely Shri. Felicio Cardoz and Shri. Fabiao D’Costa were inscribed. The main aim of constructing Shilaphalakam was to express heartfelt gratitude to brave hearts who have made the supreme sacrifice.

Panch Pran Pledge

The NSS volunteers along with NSS Programme Officers administered the Panch Pran Pledge on 14th August 2023 by holding the soil in their hands. A total of 113 NSS volunteers participated for the same. The pledge covering Panch Pran (five resolves) of the Hon’ble Prime Minister includes a resolve of developed India, removing any trace of the colonial mindset, taking pride in our legacy, our strength of unity, and fulfilling the duties of citizens with honesty.

Vasudha Vandhan

With the aim to renew and replenish Mother Earth, the NSS unit of the College, Seraulim village panchayat and the Forest Department, Margao planted 75 saplings of indigenous species and created an Amrit Vatika on 14th August 2023 at Seraulim. Indigenous species like Kokum, Indian Gooseberry, Mango, Guava, Giant taro, tamarind, and other plants having medical properties were planted. A total of 113 NSS volunteers participated in the plantation drive.

Veeron Ka Vandhan

The NSS unit of the College and the village panchayat Seraulim felicitated the family members of the deceased freedom fighters from Seraulim Shri. Felicio Cardoz and Shri. Fabiao D’Costa at the hands of Panchayat Sarpanch Mrs. Sima S. Shanke on 15th August 2023.

Hoisting of the National Flag

On 15th August 2023, the National Flag was hoisted at Seraulim village panchayat by the Sarpanch. After the hoisting, the primary school children performed cultural activities like patriotic songs, dance and Skit.

Prabhat Pheri (Morning Walk)

The NSS volunteers and NCC (Army Wing) organized prabhatpheri (Morning Walk) on 19th August 2023 from the College main entrance to Comba Margao by holding soil in one hand and the tricolour flag in the other. The Prabhat Pheri started at 8:15 am and ended at 9:00 am. During the rally students recited various patriotic slogans. A total of 53 students participated for the same. The activity was coordinated by Mr. Sanjay Velip, NSS PO-Incharge.

TY BCA Project Orientation 2023-24

The Department of Computer Science organized a Project Orientation session for TY BCA students on 10th August 2023. The Resource Person was Mr. Mohsin Shaikh, Founder & CEO, Haztech.

Mr. Mohsin delved into and examined the ideas chosen by students for their projects, providing guidance on the next steps. The session also covered the live projects assigned to specific project groups. At the end of the session, each project group was given the opportunity to ask their doubts and queries.

Ms. Shruti Kunkolienkar proposed the Vote of Thanks. 61 TY BCA students attended the session.

National Deworming Day

On the occasion of National Deworming Day (NDD), the NSS Unit of the College organized an awareness session on parasitic infections and the importance of deworming among students. On 10th August 2023, the NSS unit distributed deworming tablets to students below 19 years of age with the aim to reduce parasitic worm infections.  A total of 450 tablets were distributed to students.

The activity was coordinated by Mr. Sanjay Velip, NSS PO-Incharge, Ms. Ashwina Volvoikar, NSS PO, and Ms. Akshada Gaonkar, NSS PO.

Excellence in All-Goa Inter-Collegiate Powerlifting Championship (2023-2024)

The College secured Runners-up Position (with 1 Gold & 1 Silver Medal) in the All Goa Inter-Collegiate Powerlifting Championship organized by Goa University, held from 9th August to 11th August 2023. The team comprised 10 participants who competed in different weight categories. The team members included Mr. Alton Almeida, Mr. Ashwin Colaco, Mr. Darren Coutinho, Mr. Royden Rathod, Mr. Janak Patel, Mr. Amandeep Kullu, Mr. Anson Fernandes, Mr. Maynard Furtado, Mr. Yashraj Fal Desai, and Mr. Hayden Rebello. All of them gave their utmost effort in their individual weight categories as well as for the team.

Mr. Alton Almeida secured the Silver Medal in the up to and including 59kg weight category with a total performance of 410kg (Squats -155kg, Bench Press- 85kg and Deadlift – 180kg). Mr. Darren Coutinho secured the Gold Medal in the up to and including 74kg weight category with a total performance of 552.5 kg (Squats -220kg, Bench Press- 117.5kg and Deadlift – 215kg).

All participants exhibited exceptional dedication and commitment to their respective weight categories and contributed to the success of the team.

Excellence in All Goa Inter-Collegiate Weightlifting Championship (2023-2024)

The College secured the 3rd place (with 1 Gold, 1 Silver & 1 Bronze Medal) in the All Goa Inter-Collegiate Weightlifting Championship organized by Goa University, on the 7th and 8th of August 2023. 8 participants from the College competed in different weight categories: Mr. Alton Almeida, Mr. Ashwin Colaco, Mr. Omprakash Ram, Mr. Janak Patel, Mr. Anson Fernandes, Mr. Maynard Furtado, Mr. Yashraj Fal Desai, and Mr. Hayden Rebello. Each participant put forth their utmost effort in their individual weight categories as well as for the team.

Mr. Alton Almeida secured the Gold Medal in the up to and including 55kg weight category with a total performance of 148kg (Snatch – 65kg and Clean & Jerk – 83kg). Mr. Janak Patel secured the Silver Medal in the up to and including 81kg weight category with a total performance of 148kg (Snatch – 63kg & Clean & Jerk – 85kg). Mr. Yashraj Fal Desai secured the Bronze Medal in the up to and including 102kg weight category with a total performance of 128kg (Snatch – 58kg & Clean & Jerk – 70kg).

All participants demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to their respective weight categories, contributing to the team’s overall success.
