Exploring 3D Visualization

The Department of Computer Science organized a captivating guest lecture for TY BCA students, on “Exploring 3D Visualization” in the smart classroom. Mr. Kiran Naik Muli, V.I. at Industrial Training Institute, Bicholim, was the Resource Person for the session.

The session commenced with a visually engaging PowerPoint presentation where Mr. Kiran proudly showcased his diverse portfolio, ranging from projects undertaken for clients to his own forays into the realm of 3D design. The audience was treated to a captivating display of both beginner-level and advanced projects, including texturing, modeling, detailing, rendering, and more.

Recognizing the novice status of students in the world of Blender, Mr. Kiran thoughtfully provided a hands-on demonstration, initiating the audience with the creation of a simple iPhone model. With expert finesse, he guided through the process of object manipulation, demonstrating techniques to drag and reshape the digital constructs.

Subsequently, Mr. Kiran delved into the intricacies of color into our 3D creations. To illustrate this, he employed a model of our college building, which he had meticulously designed, and walked us through the intricacies of rendering the model to life. The final segment of the session featured a captivating demonstration on the art of object manipulation, exemplified through a meticulously crafted 3D car model. Mr. Kiran’s  instruction included grouping various car components, employing frame sets, configuring lengths, and skillfully wielding animation tools to animate the model’s movement.

Mr. Kiran’s demonstrations were lucid and easily digestible, making complex 3D visualization concepts accessible to all attendees. The session also unveiled the art of lighting techniques and rendering in Blender. The students learned how to incorporate and fine-tune light sources, witnessing the remarkable transformation during rendering. He offered sage advice on embarking on a freelancing journey within the 3D visualization domain.

67 TY BCA students attended the session. Mr. Kiran’s expertise and engaging delivery left an indelible impression, equipping our students with the knowledge and motivation to embark on their own creative journeys in the realm of 3D visualization.

Pop up Bazaar

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce & Management organized two Pop-Up Bazaar events on August 19th and 05th September 2023 in the Multipurpose Hall from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  The aim of the bazaar was to encourage budding entrepreneurs of the College by providing them with a platform to get business exposure. The pop-up bazaars featured a diverse array of stalls offering products such as snacks, sweets, games and lemonade. On August 19th, a total of five stalls were set up, while four stalls were put up on September 5th. 30 students from B.Com, BBA, BBA(FS) and BCA Program actively participated in the activity. The teacher in-charge of the activity was Ms. Marjina Shaikh, Convenor of the Commerce Club.

30-Hour Certificate Course in “Trading Insights: Analyzing Price Movements in Financial Markets”

The SY & TY Certificate Course Committee in collaboration with the Department of Management Studies and TIP Cell organised a 30-hour Certificate course in “Trading Insights: Analyzing Price Movements in Financial Markets” from 4th August to 6th September 2023. This course aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for understanding and analyzing price movements in financial markets. The Resource Person was Mr. Mahadev Gadekar, Proprietor, Aarna Financial Services.

The course commenced with a comprehensive introduction to technical analysis, laying the foundation for understanding price movements and market trends. Students learned to interpret historical price data, patterns, and trends, which are fundamental to technical analysis. Mr. Gadekar shared his valuable real-life experiences of trading with the students.

The course covered a wide range of topics in technical analysis and trading psychology, ultimately empowering students to make informed decisions in trading and investing. One of the key components of technical analysis, candlestick chart patterns, was thoroughly explained and demonstrated. Students gained insights into how to interpret and use candlestick patterns to make trading decisions. The course provided students with the tools and techniques needed to classify and identify different types of trends in financial markets. The utilization of technical indicators to assess market conditions and forecast price movements was explored. To reinforce the theoretical concepts, practical sessions were an integral part of the course. Students had the opportunity to apply their knowledge by creating dummy portfolios and practicing trading strategies. These hands-on exercises allowed students to gain valuable experience in trading within the stock market.

This course has equipped students with the tools to make informed decisions in the dynamic world of financial markets, ultimately contributing to their financial literacy and career readiness. 64 students of SY and TY B.Com &BBA(FS) attended the course.

TechTrendz Club Activity

A peer learning session on “Robotics and Arduino” was organized by the Department of Computer Science under TechTrendz Club for the FY B.Voc.(ST) students on 31st August 2023. Mr. Khushal Naik, student of FY B.Voc.(ST) conducted the enriching session that started with the Introduction to Robotics and its purpose. Videos of some real-life projects like home automation, smart dustbin and automatic plant irrigation system that were designed using Arduino were shown to the audience.

Khushal also explained the basics of electrical connections, the inputs and outputs, sensors and digital signals in robotics, followed by the introduction to the Arduino micro-controller and Arduino circuit board.  Furthermore, he introduced and demonstrated an Online simulator “tinkercad” used in designing circuits for robots.

The session progressed as Khushal coded for the Arduino using the Arduino IDE. He enthralled the audience with his live demos using circuits, and demonstrated the working of a land rover, which was built and programmed by him, that would change directions upon detecting obstacles in its path.

Towards the end of the session, Khushal listed some websites like Arduino Project Hub and arduino.cc that helped him understand and learn about Arduino and Robotics.

A total of 30 students attended the session.

The Goa Bird Atlas Survey Initiative

FY B.Com students of the College as a part of the VAC-103 course Environmental Practices in Goa enthusiastically participated in the Goa Bird Atlas Survey initiative conducted by Arannya Environment Research Organization on 31st August 2023. The purpose of this survey was to explore and observe birds in their natural habitats, while also helping to gather important data from one of the grids in and around the College premises, consisting of two distinct habitats – human habitation and agricultural habitats with wetlands. The initiative helped to gather data for the Bird Atlas to aid in the conservation and management of avifauna and also enhance ecological knowledge and awareness among students.

The survey took place in and around the premises of the College, commencing at 09.00 a.m. The bird survey was led by Jalmesh Karapurkar the State Coordinator of Goa Bird Atlas Survey. One birding trail was conducted in each habitat lasting 15 minutes. Every participant was given a pocket guide on common birds of Goa with 208 familiar birds illustrated on it. The students were equipped with binoculars and bird identification guides to aid in their observation and used the ‘eBird India Portal’, for record-keeping. During the survey, a total of 23 different bird species were sighted jointly by the students.

These sightings provided valuable insight into the bird species residing in and around the College premises, thus also contributing to the knowledge base of Goa’s avifauna diversity. Students actively engaged in bird identification and recording gaining practical insights into environmental research methodologies. The findings from this survey will be utilized in future conservation efforts and habitat restoration projects in Goa. A total of 13 students participated in the survey.

‘Voice Modulation’ Workshop

The Department of English organized a Workshop on ‘Voice Modulation’ for the FY and SY students of all the Programmes on 30th August, 2023 at 12.15 p.m. The Workshop was conducted by Ms. Kimberly Gomes, Speech & Drama teacher, at Vidya Vikas Academy. Mr. Grantik Buyao introduced the Resource Person. The Workshop was well received by the participants and they also had an interactive session where they shared their experiences with Voice modulation. A total of 62 students attended the Workshop. Ms Marisa Fernandes proposed the Vote of thanks.

Session on ‘Careers in Civil Services – UPSC and GPSC’

The PG Department of Commerce and the TIP Cell in association with Abhyankar’s IAS Academy, Pune organized a Session on ‘Careers in Civil Services – UPSC and GPSC’ on 30th August 2023. The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Aashay Abhyankar, Director and Mentor of Abhyankar’s Academy. The session aimed to provide students with insights into the opportunities, preparation strategies and challenges associated with pursuing a career in Civil Services. Miss Aemisha Azavedo of M.Com-I welcomed the students to the session and Miss Vanshita Naik of M.Com- Part I introduced the Resource Person.

Mr. Aashay Abhyankar commenced the session with a story about a boy who overcame challenges and secured top rank in UPSC and GPSC exam. This story served as an example of dedication, hard work and perseverance. The speaker shared his personal experience, motivating students to consider Civil services as a rewarding career option. The eligibility criteria for appearing in UPSC and GPSC exams were explained. The speaker elaborated on the three stages of the examination: Preliminary, Main and Interview. He emphasized the need for a multidisciplinary approach in preparing for the exams. He also shared valuable insights into effective preparation strategies including time management, study materials, mock test and the importance of current affairs. He stressed the significance of consistency and perseverance throughout the preparation journey.

The session concluded with an interactive question and answer segment. Students engaged in discussion with the speaker, seeking clarifications on various aspects of the Civil Services examination and the subsequent career paths. The session ended at 12:30 and Miss. Investor Hub Activity 8: Unleashing Potential, Embracing Success

The Department of Management Studies organized an Investor Hub activity on 26th August, 2023, as a part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing students’ knowledge and fostering a sense of team spirit. The event commenced with a Business Spotlight Class led by Mr. Pranay Gunaga, a student of TY BBA(FS) B. Mr. Gunaga’s presentation centered on the BRICS Summit 2023, providing attendees with a comprehensive overview of the discussions and key outcomes of the summit.

BRICS Grouping Expansion: Mr. Gunaga emphasized the importance of expanding the BRICS group to bolster cooperation among emerging economies.
Formation of BRICS Currency: He introduced the concept of a common BRICS currency, elucidating its potential advantages in terms of trade facilitation and economic stability.
India’s Stand in 15th BRICS Summit: Mr. Gunaga shed light on India’s unwavering commitment to cooperation within the BRICS framework and its role in the 15th BRICS Summit discussions.

Following the enlightening Business Spotlight Class, participants engaged in two interactive activities designed to promote teamwork, creativity, and knowledge sharing: The first activity was ACT-O-Word. Teams participated in an engaging word-guessing game. One member held a word card above their head, visible to their teammates. The team had to act out clues for the holder to guess the word correctly. This activity not only tested communication skills but also added an element of amusement and teamwork.

Financial Quiz was the second activity. Participants delved into a challenging financial quiz, covering various aspects of finance and economics. The quiz encouraged critical thinking and allowed participants to apply their financial knowledge.

The event achieved its goal of expanding students’ understanding of international affairs and finance, all within a collaborative and enjoyable setting.

“Setting the Stage: Orientation on Effective Stall Setup”

The Commerce Club of the Department of Commerce and Management organized a session on “Setting the Stage: Orientation on Effective Stall Setup” on 29th August. The Resource Person was Ms. Shalaka Joshi. The objective of this session was to provide the students with insights into the art of setting up stalls effectively.

Ms. Ruby Mahato a student from SY B.Com was the compere for the session. Assistant Professor, Ms. Marjina Shaikh briefed the gathering about the Commerce Club activities and the Commerce Student of the Year title. Ms. Shreeyash Dalal a student from TY B.Com introduced the Resource Person to the audience.

Mrs. Shalaka initiated the session by underscoring the pivotal role of stall presentation in influencing customer engagement and sales. She delved into several facets of stall setup, encompassing layout, design, product positioning, customer interaction, complaint resolution, pricing, and profit margin establishment. Throughout the session, Mrs. Joshi imparted her wealth of knowledge, offering valuable tips and techniques she has accumulated over the years. She stressed the importance of comprehending the target audience and customizing the stall setup accordingly. Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of crafting an inviting and visually appealing stall, utilizing elements such as banners and color schemes to captivate potential customers.
