Mock Gram Sabha Competition

As a step towards strengthening Participatory Governance among students, the Goa Institute of Public Administration & Rural Development (GIPARD), Ella Farm, Old Goa, Goa, organised a Youth Gram Sabha competition for students on 18th December 2023 at its premises.

27 students of the College participated in the competition. The Inter-collegiate event was held in two phases, Stage I: the Preparatory phase for Gram Sabha (Video) where the students had to make a video of promotion of the Gram Sabha meeting in the village, which was displayed before the enactment, and Stage II, where the proceedings of Gram Sabha had to be enacted.

Assistant Professor Dr. Monica M. Patil was the Coordinator of the programme.

Career Opportunities in Beauty and Wellness Industry

The Career Cell organised an awareness session on Career Opportunities in the Beauty and Wellness Industry on 18th December 2023 from 11.15am to 12.00 pm in class 216. The event aimed to enlighten students about the diverse and evolving nature of the beauty and wellness sector, providing insights into potential career paths and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The Resource Person for the session was Mr. Clasto Estibeiro, alumnus and Owner of Orane International Beauty and Wellness Academy, Margao, Goa. Ms. Pooja Shanbhag, the Convenor of the Career Cell, welcomed the students and the guest speaker, emphasizing the industry’s growth driven by changing consumer preferences, increased awareness of self-care and evolving beauty standards.

Segment 1: Academy Overview and Industry Landscape:

Mr. Clasto Estibeiro began by providing an overview of his academy and the beauty industry at large. He highlighted the academy’s role in shaping young minds and imparting quality skill education for employability at both national and international levels. Emphasizing the industry’s diversity, he discussed the wide range of services and products, including skincare, haircare, spa treatments, fitness, and holistic wellness, creating numerous opportunities for aspiring professionals.

Segment 2: Earning Potential and Freelancing:

The second segment of the session focused on highlighting the earning potential and scope for freelancing in this industry. He gave examples of how students working part time are making huge profit margins and creating a second revenue stream. The speaker highlighted some of the income- generating opportunities within this industry.

Overall the session was very informative and interactive. Students got an opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts. The session ended at 12.00 pm with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the convenor. 50 students attended the session.

Hands-on workshop on “e-Portfolio designing”

The Tech Trendz Club of the Department of Computer Science in association with Career Cell &Training Internship Placement Cell organized an a hands-on workshop on “e-Portfolio Designing” on 15th December 2023 in the smart classroom from 11.15 am to 1.15 pm., for the students of BCA and B.Voc.(ST). Mr. Andrew Barreto, Assistant Professor from Chowgule College of Arts & Science (Autonomous), Margao served as the Resource Person. The primary objective of the workshop was to guide students in creating a digital space that showcases evidence of their educational and/or professional achievements, along with reflective writing about their experiences.

In preparation for the hands-on session, pre-workshop tasks were assigned on December 14, 2023. Students were instructed to collect relevant materials such as photos, posters, videos, etc., related to assignments or projects they had undertaken. Additionally, they were asked to write an introduction about themselves to facilitate a thoughtful and comprehensive e-portfolio.

On December 15, 2023, the workshop began with a formal introduction of Mr. Andrew Barreto by Ms. Riya Shinde, a student of FY BCA B. Mr. Barreto initiated the session with an overview of portfolios and e-portfolios, discussing various types and emphasizing the importance of creating a personal brand through introspective writing. He provided insights into when and how to create an e-portfolio and shared details about free e-portfolio platforms, including site.google.com, Wix.com, and FlipHTML5.

Students were then tasked with creating their e-portfolios using site.google.com and the resources collected during the pre-workshop phase. Each participant had to articulate their learning philosophy, with special recognition given to Zabez Rodrigues, a student of SY B.Voc.(ST), for his outstanding write-up.

The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Shahrul Hirekeri from FY BCA Div B. Feedback from students, including Bhakti Mirashi, Shahid Shaikh, and Showil Rebello, reflected the collaborative and appreciative spirit of the workshop. 21 students attended this workshop.

Pop-Up Bazaar

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce organized a Pop-Up Bazaar on 15th December 2023 from 10 am to 12.30 pm to provide them with a platform to showcase their entrepreneurial skills, foster community engagement, and provide a platform for networking and collaboration.

Students set up a total of six stalls offering a mix of recipes such as fruit salad, sandwiches, range of chaat items, beverages, innovative twists on classics, and fusion creations, providing a unique gastronomic experience for customers. They also set up a Games Stall with innovative games for entertaining the audience. These activities helped them to apply the knowledge acquired through classroom discussions on a practical ground. Students also acquired the skill of preparing item specific budget, cost management and profit generation.

The event’s multifaceted approach, combining entrepreneurship, education, and entertainment, contributed to its overall success. The positive feedback received from participating teams suggests that such initiatives are valuable in fostering a spirit of innovation, collaboration, and community engagement among students.

Participation in XIIIth Annual National Technology Festival

Students of the Department of Computer Science participated in the XIIIth Annual National Technology Festival “Noesis” at Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim on 15th and 16th December 2023. 10 students participated in the event.

Students participated in various event categories like Web Weavers, Code Crunchers, Media Masters, Brainy Beings, Gamers Grove and Swing of Fortune. Mr Khushal Naik and Mr. Yogesh Yadav of FY B.Voc.(ST) won the first place in Bug IT event under Web Weavers category  and students from SY B.Voc.(ST), Mr Sam Miranda and Mr Rahul Bukkam won first place in synclt event under Media Masters category.

The event was well organized and the students were happy with the experience.

Essay Writing Competition on Human Rights Day

To commemorate Human Rights Day, the NSS unit of the College organized Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Freedom, Equality and Justice for all”. The competition was kept open for five days, where students were instructed to submit their hand written essays from 10th to 14th December 2023. The main objective of organizing the competition was to foster awareness, critical thinking, and articulate expressions among participants regarding the significance of human rights in our society. 11 NSS students participated in the Competition.

The winners of the essay writing competition were:

2nd  Place: Spurti Taukari     SY B.Com ‘C’

3rd  Place: Koel Jana             TY B.Com ‘B’

State Level IT Fest SPECTRA 2023-24

The Department of Computer Science organized a two-day State Level IT Fest SPECTRA 2023-24 on 12th and 13th December 2023. The event catered to BCA and B.Voc. undergraduate students from various colleges across Goa, and witnessed participation by 90 students from five different institutions in all 20 events, including on-stage, off-stage, lab events, and gaming activities.

The inaugural function on Day 1 commenced with an invocation song, lamp lighting, and a welcome address by Principal Prof. Prita D. Mallya. Mr. Ramkrishna Reddy, Event Coordinator, briefed the audience about Spectra.

The Chief Guest for the function was Mrs. Ekta Agarwal, CEO and Founder of S. S. Technologies. She emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between Industry and Academia and highlighted the importance of Life Skills through such events as an added advantage to the student for better future prospects. The Spectra Trophies were unveiled by the dignitaries during the Inaugural. SYBCA student, Ms. Sujal Naik, proposed the Vote of Thanks for the Inaugural function. The compere for the Inaugural function was Ms. Nidhi Nagvekar, student of FYBCA.

The participating colleges included Goa Multi-Faculty College Dharbandora, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts, Navelim, Don Bosco College, Panjim, MES College of Arts and Commerce Zuarinagar and Saraswat College, Mapusa.

New events were introduced at Spectra this year, including IOTech, showcasing student creations in the Internet of Things.

The Valedictory Function on Day 2 featured Chief Guest Mr. Chetan Rane, Technology Lead at Isprava Vesta Pvt. Ltd. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration skills in a professional environment.  Winners of SPECTRA 2023-24 were Rosary College, Navelim and the Runners Up were Don Bosco College, Panjim. All the winners were given Trophies and Certificates for all Individual Events. Winners of Elemental Auras and Ice Breaker were given Vouchers and Discount Coupons sponsored by Dream Avenue Margao and Photojaanic.com.

Mrs. Sweta P. Shet Verenkar, Event Coordinator proposed the Vote of Thanks. The success of Spectra 2023-24 was attributed to the College Management, Principal, Vice Principals, faculty, and staff, as well as the enthusiastic participation of students and competitors from various colleges across Goa.

Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC)

The 1 Goa Girls Battalion, NCC organized a Combined Annual Training Camp from 5th to 14th December 2023, at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa, Goa. The primary objectives of the camp were to prepare cadets for the B and C Certificate exams and provide them with a sense of the Defence lifestyle.

The cadets and ANOs/CTOs were warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer of 1 Goa Girls Battalion, NCC, and Camp Commandant Col Robi Tom. The camp activities commenced with tent pitching on the first day, where cadets learnt essential techniques. Each day of the camp started with exercises at 6:00 am and concluded with games at 10:00 pm. The cadets were divided into two groups, Army and Navy, gaining practical knowledge in various service subjects, including Semaphore, firing, marching, swimming, and weapon training.

The camp featured diverse competitions such as solo singing, solo dance, group singing, and group dance. Naval cadets from our institution participated in group singing and group dance, securing a gold medal in the latter. In sports, competitions included running races, relay races, and tug of war, with our Naval cadets winning a gold medal in tug of war. Cadet Aman Kumar and Cadet Bahadur Bonal were also honored with trophies for their exceptional performances.

14 NCC Naval wing cadets from Damodar College attended the camp, which saw an overall participation of 350 cadets from 1 Goa Girls Battalion, NCC Junior and Senior wings, along with 28 Naval cadets from Goa.

The CATC camp provided valuable learning experiences for the cadets, fostering skills such as coordination, team building, communication, and understanding. These skills are expected to contribute to their personal growth and development as responsible citizens in the future.

Participation in Intercollegiate Event: Moneta 2023–24

P. Mandali’s R. A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics, Matunga – Mumbai organised ‘Moneta 2023-24’ from 7th to 9th December 2023. Moneta 2023-24 featured a diverse array of activities promoting the theme ‘VittJagriti’ which means ‘Financial Awareness’. Two teams from B.Com programme and Management Studies Dept. participated in the event comprising of 12 students per team from each programme. The inaugural ceremony began at 9:00 a.m. on 7th December with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and a warm welcome to all the participants by the Principal of the College. Mr. Amish Mehta, MD of CRISIL was invited as the Chief guest for the inaugural ceremony.

Moneta 2023 encompassed enlightening seminars, exploring subjects within the finance sector by top-notch professionals. The event also featured engaging competitions tailored to enhance the multifaceted aspects of the finance sector. A total of 13 events unfolded over the three days, including “Manobhav”, “Bullring”, “Corporate Board Room”, “Production Paradox”, etc. VVM’s Shree Damodar College was represented by two teams: Tim Hortons – the B.Com students and Team Pizza Hut – BBA(FS) students.

The B.Com team, “Tim Hortons,” consisted of Ms. Brionna Noronha being the Contingent Leader, Ms. Nidhi Kunde being Asst. Contingent Leader, Mr. Soham Gharse, Ms. Aditi Satardekar, Mr. Sathvik Satardekar, Mr. Vedang Bagade, Mr. Advaith Ainapur, Ms. Abha Naik, Ms. Tanvi Tengse, Mr. Aditya Joshi, Mr. Vishal Kubawat and Mr. Aldric Menezes Gama. The BBA and BBA(FS) team, “Pizza Hut,” comprised of Mr. Suyash Patki being the Contingent Leader, Mr. Aden Vaz being the Asst. Contingent Leader, Mr. Dhruv Kadkade, Mr. Sunil Dhanapnavar, Ms. Ayesha Rafiq, Mr. Afzal Shaikh, Ms. Pavitra Gadkar, Ms. Simran Sharma, Ms. Uddhav Pai Talkatkar, Ms. Solonche Pereira, Mr. Devraj Choudhary, and Mr. Prajvalit Gaonkar. The two teams were guided and accompanied by Asst. Prof. Ainsley Bernard and Asst. Prof. Sushrusha Naik Khandekar.

Both the teams showcased exceptional skills with many members qualifying for final rounds and securing top positions. Tim Hortons received the Best PR Team award, while Mr. Suyash Patki, student from FY BBA(FS), the Contigent Leader of Team Pizza Hut earned the Best CL award for his excellent time management and leadership skills. Mr. Dhruv Kadkade, student from FY BBA(FS) and Mr. Suyash Patki, student from FY BBA(FS) secured second place and Mr. Vishal Kubawat, student from SY B.Com and Mr. Aldric Menezes Gama, student from TY B.Com secured third place in the event ‘Beyond D-Street’. Mr. Afzal Shaikh student from SY BBA and Ms. Ayesha Rafiq, student from FY BBA(FS) won first place for the event ‘Study in Scarlet’. Mr. Adez Vaz student from FY BBA(FS) and Mr. Sunil Dhanapnavar student from FY BBA(FS) won 2nd place for the event ‘Manobhav’. Moneta 2023 concluded on 9thDecember at 9:00 p.m. The spirit of the event was encapsulated by the pursuit of knowledge, teamwork, and an overall enriching experience.

Rasoi Utsav

As a part of Bhartiya Bhasha Diwas celebrations, the Cultural Council in association with EBSB Club organised ‘Rasoi Utsav’ on 7th December, 2023 to celebrate the diversity in culture, arts, etc., and to make students experience the unity, harmony, and integrity of the nation. The programme commenced with the Principal and Vice Principal welcoming the judges, Mrs Sharmila Kamat, and Mrs Shraddha Lad, our Alumni and successful entrepreneurs. The Principal addressed the participants, spoke about the food culture of India and praised them for taking up the challenge of presenting the traditional dishes of different states. Students from all programmes participated in the competition.

Around 12 dishes from different states were displayed by the students who participated in pairs as well as individually. The students had prepared a variety of traditional dishes from across India and presented their platters.

Kanika and Abigayle presented a Goan dish ‘Dudhanche fov’; Unnati and Sarva presented a dish from Uttarakhand ‘Aloo Dal Pakora’; Nivita and Taniya presented a Gujarati dish of ‘Dhokla, Handiyo, and Thepla’; Bhakti Mirashi presented a combined dish of Jharkhand and Bengal that is ‘Madua Roti, and Rasogulla Thali’; Gudiya Bhati and Komal Botekar presented the Jharkhand dish of  ‘Duska and AlooBhaji, and Kakara Petha’; Sai and Rahul prepared a dish from Andhra Pradesh namely ‘Pulihora’ (Tamarind Rice); Tejas presented a dish called ‘Duska & Aloo Chana sabzi’; a Goan dish of ‘Dum Biryani’ was presented by Sameer and Shallen, Vasvi and Purva prepared dishes from Maharashtra known as ‘Sabudana vada & Puranpoli’; Karina and Naziya presented a Bihari Dish of ‘Litti Chokha’; ‘Chole Puri’ a dish from Uttar Pradesh was prepared by Esha and Nidhi, and Shruti Paikhot presented a Goan dish known as ‘Dudhacho Faral’.

The winners of the Rasoi Utsav were Gudiya Bhati and Komal Botekar, the 2nd place was bagged by Bhakti Mirashi, and the third place went to Shruti Paikhot. The Rasoi Utsav ended at noon.

Assistant Professors Dr Monica Patil and Ms Rama Borkar were the Coordinators of the programme and Ruby Mahato, Raghav Muroor, and Valenie Fernandes were the student coordinators.
