Live Webinar on ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition And Redressal) Act, 2013’

The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in association with the Women’s Cell of Vidya Vikas Mandal’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, Goa organized a live webinar on the topic ‘Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013’ for the newly appointed staff during the academic year 2021-2022 and students of FY BCom/BCA/BBA(FS)/B.Voc and M.Com Part I students on 11th December, 2021 from 10:00 am till 11:15 am.  The speaker for the session was Adv. Siddhi Mayur Parodkar. The webinar was screened live through Microsoft Teams and YouTube Channel of the College.

The webinar was hosted by Ms. Gautami Karmalkar, student of TYBBA(FS) A. Incipiently the participants were made familiar with the members of the Women’s cell and the ICC. Asst. Prof. Trisha Vadil introduced the speaker Adv. Siddhi Mayur Parodkar, practicing Advocate at High Court of Bombay at Goa. The speaker subsequently started with her session. The Resource Person addressed the students about several circumstances that lead to abuse, women’s rights, associated regulations, and officials to report in case of any unfortunate event. She also mentioned the ramifications for the complaint in certain situations, especially if they are not documented. She presented a number of case studies to help the students comprehend the information better.

Dr. Sheetal D. Arondekar, Asst. Prof. in Commerce, Convenor of Women’s Cell and Presiding Officer of ICC, introduced the participants about the Anti-Ragging and Grievance Committee. Ms. Senalda Lopes, student of TY B.Com C proposed the Vote of Thanks.  68 participants attended the webinar through the online screening platforms. The participants gave a positive feedback about the webinar.

Quiz on AIDS Awareness

On the occasion of World AIDS Day on December 3, Counseling Cell and NSS Unit organized an online quiz on AIDS Awareness. World AIDS Day is observed to raise awareness about HIV-AIDS and to mourn those who succumbed to this disease.

The main aim of the quiz was to create awareness about AIDS among students. The quiz consisted of 15 statements and those who scored 70% and above were awarded certificates. Once submitted, participants could check the correct responses along with the explanation of the statement.

A total of 83 responses were recorded till December 15, 2021. The link was deactivated on December 15th, 2021.

Talk on Industrial Development of Goa – Past, Present and Future under the Celebration GOA@60 – GOA UTSAV

Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao in association with Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa and Department of Information & Publicity, Govt. of Goa organized a talk on Industrial Development of Goa – Past, Present and Futureas part of the CelebrationGOA@60 – GOA UTSAVon9thDecember 2021. The Resource Person for the session was Mr Blaise Costabir, Managing Director of GMI Zarhak Moulders Pvt. Ltd, Verna. 127 participants attended the session. (83 students and 44 faculty members)

The event began at 10.00 am with the Inaugural program, which consisted of a Welcome Address and brief introduction by the Principal Dr. Prita D Mallya. This was followed by introduction of the Chief Guest Mr Blaise Costabir, by the compere Ms Stesa Pereira.

Mr. Blaise Costabir in his address described the past as the ‘Premier Padmini Era’, the present as having complete customer focus backed by data and the future would have businesses which do not exist today, however, these new businesses will top the charts.

He reiterated the old adage that, “ENTREPRENEURS ARE MADE, NOT BORN” and that risk taking, self-belief, focus, life style change and humility are inherent to entrepreneurship. Mr Costabir gave numerous interesting examples of occurrences from his entrepreneurial journey and concluded by saying that “Entrepreneurship is filled with nail biting excitement, but it is not for the faint hearted”

Intramural Chess Tournament

The Department of Physical Education and Sports organized Online Chess Tournament for the students and staff via online open source software, Lichess.com on 7th December 2021 from 4.00 to 5.30 p.m. The tournament was played in an arena format. The total duration of the tournament was 90 minutes, Clock initial time was 10 minutes with 5 seconds increment. Fixtures of the tournament was randomly designed.

TechTrendz Activity

The Computer Science Department organised “Competition-to make competitions” under the TechTrendz Club on 4th December 2021 via Microsoft Teams, for the FY, SY, TY students of BCA and B.Voc.(ST) Program. The Club identified three main areas in the Computer Science field namely, Software Development as Group A, Multimedia as Group B and Future Skills as Group C. The Students registered in one of these three areas based on their interest to organize and participate in the competitions. The Faculty in charge for these areas were as follows:

This Activity was conducted to select the best competitions in each of the three identified areas that could be implemented in each areas throughout the academic under the TechTrendz Club. Students participated by giving their ideas and inputs as to what competition could be organised under the club. The Students uploaded their documented ideas online in the MS Teams. The winners of this Activity were Mr. Prithvi Devesh Shirodkar and Ms. Lovely Narender Ramchandani, students from SYBCA B Division. The Faculty incharge of the TechTrendz Club is Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair.

Awareness campaign on social media to commemorate World AIDS Day

The Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit in collaboration with the Counselling cell of the College, organised an awareness campaign through social media to commemorate   World AIDS Day observed on 1st December every year.

The Volunteers were asked to share slogans on social media platform or as whatsapp status to create an awareness about HIV/AIDS in community from 1st to 4th December. The theme for the activity was “End inequalities, End AIDS”. Volunteers enthusiastically participated in the activity and posted slogans to reach out to thousands of people in and outside the state.  87 volunteers participated in the activity.

‘FEDENA’ Orientation For Faculty members in CS Department

The Computer Science Department conducted an offline session on “Fedena Orientation for faculty members” on Friday 19th November 2021 from 2.00 to 3.00 pm in Lab 2 of CS Department. Total of 11 faculty members including both contract and lecture basis attended the same.

The session was conducted by Ms. Pradnya Nadkarni, Lab Assistant. Ms. Pradnya explained the steps involved in marking and viewing the attendance and marks in the Fedena software. Other features of software were also demonstrated. She also clarified all the doubts regarding Microsoft Teams viz. how to create assignments and quizzes. Ms. Rajlaxmi S. Nair and Ms. Sonali Sarvesh Karapurkar were the teachers in charge for the session.

Workshop on ‘Effective Professional Skills- Conquering Language Barriers’

The Post-Graduate Department of organized a workshop on the topic ‘Effective Professional Skills- Conquering Language Barriers”, on 13th November 2021 at 10:00 am to 11.30 pm for the students of M. Com Part I and Part II in room no. 21. 42 students participated in the session.

The speaker for the session was Mrs. Gauravi Khaunte, Language and Communication skills Trainer. Mrs. Khaunte stressed on having correct pronunciations, using appropriate phrases, grammatical concepts, how to speak and write with clarity, framing the written work, importance of active and passive voice, rules of academic writing and words that are misspelt on a regular basis. She also discussed the basic etiquettes to be followed while drafting letters/emails and ways to improve vocabulary. At the end, the speaker emphasized on the ten rules or mantras of speaking professionally.

The session gave an opportunity to the students to learn and understand different ways of communicating and how to effectively implement it in their day to day activities. They also got to know the importance of verbal and written communication in the professional world.

The participants found the workshop very informative and beneficial. The session ended at 11.30pm, with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Namrata Rinwa, a student from M.Com Part II.

Investor Hub Activity – Virtual Quiz Competition

The BBA(Financial Services) Department organized a Virtual Quiz Competition under the Investor Hub on 13-11-2021 from 11:30 a.m. till 12:15 p.m. The competition was conducted through Google Meet using Nearpod, an innovative and interactive web-based instructional platform.

The Virtual Quiz was conducted for FYBBA(FS), SYBBA(FS) and TYBBA(FS) students. 20 students participated in the competition. The quiz consisted of questions related to the financial services sector. Mr. Abhay Baliga, of FYBBA(FS)-A, Ms. Sakshi Talaulikar, student of FYBBA(FS)-A and Ms. Devyani Chandrashekar Sirakaje, student of TYBBA(FS)-A won the first, second and third place respectively.

The e-certificates were provided to the winners of the competition, Students enthusiastically participated for the competition and the activity was successfully completed. Asst. Prof. Trisha Vadil, in-charge of the Investor Hub coordinated the activities.

5-Day Student Development Programme

The Commerce Club organized a 5- Day Student Development Programme in association with Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers’ Forum, on the topic “Overviews of Stock Market” from 08th to12thNovember 2021 from 12:30  to 01:30 p.m. via the Google Meet platform.

Five sessions were organized on the topics: Investing during these challenging times, Portfolio Management, Asset Allocation vital for wealth creation, Financial Planning and Monetary policy and its implication.

Resource Person for the sessions were as follows:

Day 1:Mr. Kaushal Kumar Mishra, Full Time Lecturer, DHP Financial Training Services, Mumbai.

Day 2- Day 5: DR. V. Aditya Srinivas, Chief Operating Officer & Chief Economist, Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers Forum.

Day 1:Investing during these Challenging Times

On day 1, the program began with a welcome address by Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, Convenor of Commerce Club, followed by introduction of Resource Person by Ms. Marjina Shaikh. The topic for day 1 was “Investing during these Challenging Times” and the Resource Person was Mr. Kaushal Mishra. He began the session with a brief introduction about the importance of stock market. Mr. Mishra focused on the reasons to invest in stock market, Investment process, and major stock exchanges in India, Bull market, Bear Market and live demonstration on reading candle charts on money control site. The presentation was followed by a question answer session.

Day 2:Portfolio Management

The topic for day 2 was “Portfolio Management” and the Resource Person was Dr. Aditya Srinivas. He explained about the various factors that one needs to consider before investing. He also elaborated on the kinds of portfolio in stock market. He stressed upon the various fundamentals to be checked before creating a Portfolio. He also covered portfolio diversification and the extent of diversification. The session ended with a question and answer round.

Day 3: Asset Allocation Vital for Wealth Creation

On the 3rd day the topic for the session was “Asset Allocation Vital for Wealth Creation”, Dr Aditya started the session with a brief presentation on the concept of asset allocation, Wealth Creation, Ideal Asset Allocation. He stressed on the ideal asset allocation in respect of each age group. The presentation was followed by question answer session.

Day 4:Financial Planning

On the 4th day Dr. Srinivas informed the students about the various investment avenues available. The Resource Persons focused on time value of money, top mutual fund schemes, calculation of NAV, construction of portfolio, Retirement planning, etc. He demonstrated the Terminal Operations on Bombay Stock exchange. He discussed about the top 30 companies on BSE and the strategies to invest in the stock market. The session ended with a question answer round.

Day 5:Monetary policy and its Implication

The topic for the last session was “Monetary Policy and its implications”. Dr. Aditya elaborated upon the Role of Central Bank, Monetary instruments, Impact of interest rates on economy, inflation v/s interest rates. At the end, the resource person addressed the questions raised by the students.

The program ended with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the secretary of the commerce club Jackson Rodrigues. Towards the end the students were asked to fill the feedback forms and also answer an online quiz based on which 88students were issued e – certificates. It was an excellent learning opportunity for the students and the students actively participated on all 5 days.
