Inauguration of Smart Class

Vidya Vikas Mandal’s G.R. Kare College of Law inaugurated its first Smart Classroom on 25th July 2015. The inauguration was done at the hands of Dr. Nandini Vaidyanthan, an author, mentor and teacher of entrepreneurship.

Such classroom is set up with an endeavor to provide ICT enabled instruction and also to make education interesting, to help students in a better concept formation and understanding. This will also develop innovative teaching methodology.

Dr. Vaidyanathan delivered a lecture as a part of the ongoing lecture series, “GRK Talks”on the topic “A woman entrepreneur in a man’s world”. ‘GRK Talks’ takes place on last Saturday of every month. Eminent personalities from various fields are invited to the law college campus to deliver talks on diverse subjects. The talks are open to members of the public and distinguished speakers from all over India have been invited to deliver the talks.

Jana Suvidha Kendra Set-up (Kare College)

We are pleased to announce that G.R.Kare College of Law in association with South Goa Collectorate has set up a permanent Jana Suvidha Kendra which has been inaugurated on 23/07/2015 at 11:00 am at the hands of Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister, Shri. Francis D’Souza on the ground floor, Citizen Facilitation Centre Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, Margao-Goa.

The said Jana Suvidha Kendra will provide assistance to the public in drafting and filling of routine application for various services like obtaining Residence Certificate, Income Certificate, Caste Certificate , Mutation ,Land Conversion, Partition, assist and guide them in various issues pertaining to L.R.C.

These service is provided to the public, free of cost.

GRK Master class (Kare College)

The Second Lecture in G.R.K. Master Class Lecture Series was delivered by Adv. Vijayshree Irraker, Sr. Programme Manager at ARZ on the topic ‘Human Rights of Trafficked Victims’on 20th July 2015 in the college.

Bastille Day Observed (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

Objective:

  • Teachers report a greater confidence in creating a positive school environment.
  • Students develop a heightened awareness of the French culture. Teachers and students experience an enhanced ability to learn and work collaboratively.
  • Students develop the four fold skills of communication i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Bastille day was celebrated on the 14th of July, 2015 by the French students of Classes 7,8,9,10 to commemorate the day, with the help of their French teachers Miss Farheen Khan and Miss Ashtria Pires.

The programme was planned well by the teachers and it began with Miss Amanda Dias explaining the importance of this day. The students of class 7 added a touch of glamour to the programme by performing on Ben l’oncle soul’s ” Soulman “. The programme continued with the students of class 8 singing the soulful “Aux Champs Elysees”. Spot prizes added an extra twist to the programme. Some jeux de rôles were enacted by the students of class 9. Bevan and his group enthralled the onlookers with their edition of Khaled’s “AICHA”.

The wow factor of the event was a special canteen that the students just couldn’t resist. It included a spread of nutella crêpes, chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, éclairs and the dish of the day triple layered cake in the colors of the French flag.

The event concluded with French national anthem “LA MARSEILLAISE”.

Digital Wellness Online Challenge (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

The Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt. of India recently launched the Digital India Campaign at the hands of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Naredra Modi. As a part of this campaign, 1st July to 07th July 2015 is declared as Digital India Week.

To mark this celebration, a Digital Wellness Online Challenge was initiated with wide range of activities to raise awareness about the Government initiatives for Universal Digitization and Digital Equity by transforming India into a Digitally Improved Society and Knowledge based economy.
Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao Goa, participated in this Digital Wellness Online Challenge. The students of Classes 6 to 12 participated in the Online Quiz. The objective of conducting such an activity was:

  1. To develop an understanding of Digital Wellness
  2. Become familiar with technology used for various cyber threats, identify dangers lurking in the online world.
  3. To gain knowledge of cyber security, safety and cyber ethics.

Students were very enthusiastic to take up such an online task. Participation Certificates were generated online and the same were printed and were awarded to the students at the hands of the Principal Dr. Alan Rodrigues, Vice-Principal (Secondary Section) Mrs. Tania Monteiro and Mrs. Joble Bijoy (Sr. Secondary Section) in the presence of the computer teachers.

Many students cleared two rounds of quiz and were awarded certificate of merit.
Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari, Mrs. Pradnya Nadkarni, Mr. Pruthviraj Dessai and Mr. Mitendra Alve co-ordinated the online quiz.

Inaugural Lecture of GRK Master Class (Kare College)

1The college has started classroom lecture series by name GRK Master Class from the academic year 2015-16. The inaugural lecture of the series was delivered by Adv. Rajeev Gomes on 4th July 2015 on the topic ‘Arrest and Bail’.

Digital Marketing Training Program – 25th May 2015 – 30th May 2015

MakeIntern.Com, in association with IIM Calcutta (Carpe Diem) conducted a 30-hour certificate course on “Digital Marketing”. Damodar College was identified as the Zonal Centre for conducting the certificate course.

The participants included students and faculty. The trainer, Mr. Pramthesh Pal, a PhD research scholar at IIM Calcutta, trained the participants in areas such as Search Engine Optimisation, Pay per Click Marketing, Web Analytics, Social Media Marketing, etc. He emphasized the importance and power of Digital Marketing in today’s world and advised the participants on how to use the tools judiciously. As part of their course work, participants developed and presented their business ideas and were given hands-on training in the usage of the tools available for the purpose.

The training session was inaugurated by Vice – Principal Mr. Sanjay Sawant Dessai and coordinated by Asst. Professor Mr. Sumit Kumar from the Dept. of Computer Science. Three student participants, Miss. Savia Da Costa, Mr. Alkesh Desai and Mr. Swaraj Pati received merit certificates and have been selected to participate in the Carpe Diem 2015-16 event of IIM Calcutta at Kolkata in January/February 2016.

Celebration of International Yoga Day – 21st June 2015

The NSS Unit celebrated International Yoga Day in the college premises. The function began at 7.00 a.m with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the Principal Dr. Mrs. Prita D. Mallya.

Prarthana was recited followed by the welcome address by Principal Dr. Mrs. Prita D. Mallya. Sports Director of the College Shri. Sudhakar Naik took the lead in conducting the yoga programme. All the Asanas and pranayamas were enthusiastically done by the students and teachers.
Around 50 Students and 10 teachers participated in the programme. Mr. Vishal Chari, Ms. Preksha Chopdekar, Ms. Namrata Haldankar and Dr. B.P. Sarath Chandran Chief NSS Proggramme Officer were present for the Yoga Celebration.

The programme ended with Shantipat and vote of thanks, which was delivered by Mr. Vinod Dhamaskar, Sports Director, RMS HSS.

Report On Orientation For E-Cell – 23rd June 2015

An orientation session on the scope of entrepreneurship was held to orient students to take up entrepreneurship and become self-employed.
Faculty from CIBA (Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration, Verna-Goa) Shri Anand kumar Lotlikar, elaborated on the necessity, benefits and future prospects of entrepreneurship in Goa. He gave several examples of innovative entrepreneurship and impressed upon the students that innovation was one of the key factors for success in today’s world.

125 students attended the orientation programme and made it interactive through the question-answer session.

Inauguration Of E-Cell – 27th June 2015

The E-Cell of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics in association with CIBA, Verna-Goa, was inaugurated by Shri Abhijeet Sawant, a young entrepreneur and ex-student of college and Shri D. S. Prashant, General Manager of CIBA. E-Cell Convenor Dr. Rodney D’Silva welcomed the gathering and thanked the students for showing positivity and enthusiasm towards taking up entrepreneurship. He said that the E-Cell intended to assist in promoting, guiding and mentoring entrepreneurship among students.

Shri. Abhijeet Sawant in his presentation narrated his experiences with entrepreneurship wherein he highlighted some of the obstacles he encountered and how he positively overcame them. He sang a motivational song seeking to promote innovation and non-dependence.
The students participated in the interactions very enthusiastically and continued discussions on a one to one basis with the chief guest and other staff of CIBA, Verna, even after the function. 70 Students attended the programme which was coordinated by Miss Gerlinda Rodrigues.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY – REPORT (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

“Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self realization. Yoga means union – the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day to day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.”B.K.S. Iyengar

VIDYA VIKAS ACADEMY, Margao, Goa, participated enthusiastically in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to celebrate International Yoga Day.
A week-long training program by Shri Rama Naik saw a good attendance from NCC Cadets, other students and staff.
Staffs were also trained by Shri Omana Kuttan to have yoga sessions involving breathing exercises, in their classrooms. When you inhale, you are taking the strength from God. When you exhale, it represents the service you are giving to the world.

On June 21, staff and students reported at school at 0645 hrs. The yoga session commenced at 0700hrs and ended at 0733 hrs after which all were served a healthy fruit beverage. Both staff and students appreciated the importance and benefits of yoga for a stress-free and healthy life.
The NCC Cadets participated in the yoga programme at the Multipurpose Hall, P.J.N. Stadium, Fatorda Goa.

The Senior Secondary students and staff attended a Yoga programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao Goa, at 3 pm.
Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured. Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they’re meant to be.

We at the Academy pledge to adopt practices for a happier and healthier lifestyle to enable us to contribute better to bettering this world.

World Music Day Celebrated (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

33Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated World Music Day with a special assembly on 22nd June 2015 for Classes 6 to 10. Giesselle, Grishma and Bradley spoke about the significance of World Music Day and how it has evolved over the years.

Charts for the display boards were prepared by Nadia of Class 7 and Areta of Class 8 on World Music Day. Pictures of International Artists and Various Instruments were also displayed on the board.

The School Orchestra comprising of Shane, Bradley, Vinay, Sneiden and Bevan of Class 10, Dhiti and Brisen of Class 7, Arya, Tudor, Erica, Gieselle, Ruruja and Grishma of Class 8 performed three songs, Yaaron Dosti, Eye of the tiger and Ek Cheddun. Trushell proposed the vote of thanks.

Sir Neil Dcruz co-ordinated the special assembly.

Goa Revolution Day Observed (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

32June 18 is a red letter day in the history of Goa’s freedom struggle for freedom. It was on this day in 1946 that Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a veteran freedom fighter gave a call to the Goans to unite and fight against the Portuguese rule. This clarion call given on this day from the city square in Margao now known as Lohia Maidan, gave new inspiration to the freedom fighters. The historic event on June 18, 1946 was the beginning of a revolution that strengthened the freedom movement and gave a definite direction to Goa’s freedom struggle. June 18, is celebrated every year as

Goa’s Revolution Day, with pride to commemorate this revolution in 1946.
The Class 8B assembly began with the prayer and the pledge by Bryshane D’Costa and Ved Iyer. The comperes were Rhea Virginkar and Sharlet Chowalloor. A poem about the struggle for Goa’s freedom was recited by Zara Dias.

The following students wonderfully enacted the roles of famous freedom fighters:

  1. Gustavo D’Sa as Dr. Juliao Menezes
  2. Falgun Mopkar as Dattaram Kamat
  3. Siddharth Sharma as T.B. Cunha, and
  4. Manmeet Borkar as Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia

The assembly was concluded with Grazielle Serrao reading the thought for the day, followed by the National Anthem.
