Study Tour – 31st October 2015-7th November 2015

BBA (FS) Department organized a Study tour to Mumbai. They visited Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, National Securities Depository Limited, Central Depository Services limited, Association of Mutual Funds in India and Securities Exchange Board of India.
42 students of F.Y and S.Y BBA (FS) with 4 Faculty members went for the study tour. The students got an opportunity to interact with Industry Professionals. Overall it was a good learning experience for the students.

College Tour 2015-16 by Students’ Council – 31st October 2015 – 11th November 2015

The Students’ Council organized a tour to North-East of India from 31st October – 11th November 2015. 75 students were accompanied by 06 teachers. At Kolkata they visited Science city, Victoria Memorial and Metro rail. One of the main attractions of the tour was visit to Tshangu Lake in Gangtok a beautiful place with the ice-topped mountains surrounding the massive lake. Students enjoyed Yak rides and clicked snaps with Traditional Sikkim dress. Bhakthang waterfall is a great place with the crashing water. Gunjung monastery stands on the edge of the mountain, giving a panoramic view of Gangtok Valleys. Curtains of thick fog keep falling on and away from the monastery. Tashi view point is another point to store the valleys of Gangtok in one’s eyes. Ganeshtok offers not only a good view and blessings of Lord Ganesh but also a mini market to buy indigenous gift items. Tibetology museum stores ancient scriptures and sculptures depicting history of Sikkim. After visiting all these places students left Gangtok to visit their next destination Darjeeling.

Tiger Hill was visited early in the morning and students experienced the phenomenal sunrise illuminating the peaks of Kanchenjunga . The students also visited Yiga Choeling Monastery – popularly known as Ghum Monatery ,Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the remains of Tenzing Norgay – one of the first two individuals to conquer Everest and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. The Institute houses a museum of many important Everest Missions. Later visit was to tea garden of Darjeeling and the market place for shopping.
Students crossed the Indo-Nepalese border over to visit Pashupatinath Market in Nepal also visited Mirik Lake .Many students engaged themselves in Horse riding and boating activities.

Students also visited home of Mother Teresa which is now the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity. They also visited the famous Belur Math and Kalighat Temple of Kolkata. Students will cherish memories of this tour for years to come!

NSS Special Camp – 14th November- 18th November 2015

The NSS Special Camp of Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics was held at Fatorpa in the premises of Shree Shantadurga Devasthan from 14th November to 20th November 2015. The camp was attended by 63 NSS volunteers along with NSS Chief Programme officer Dr. B.P. Sarath Chandran, and other Programme officers Mr. Vishal Chari, Ms. Lina Sadekar, Ms. Preksha Chopdekar and Ms. Namrata Haldankar.

Star Gazing Session – 18th November 2015

The Nature Club organized a star gazing night for NSS volunteers at Bhumiraj Hall of Shree Shantadurga Kunkallikarin Temple, Fatorpa, Goa. Mr.Devendra Mr.Manas and Mr. Kabir from association of Friends of Astronomy-Goa, conducted the star gazing programme.

The programme comprised of two sessions. The first session was a presentation made by Mr.Devendra on “Why study Astronomy”. The session was interactive with students actively participating in the discussion. In the second session students were taken outdoors into the field where the telescope had been setup. Through the telescope, students could clearly see the Moon and several constellations in the sky.

The session was a unique and memorable experience not only for the students but also for the local villagers who were invited for the event.

Cleanliness Drive by NCC Army Cadets – 6th December 2015

NCC Army Cadets organized a cleanliness drive (Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan) in and around Comba area.

Nature Club – 9th December 2015

The Nature Club in association with Kirloskar Vasundhara Internatonal Film Festival (KVIFF) team organized one day activity in the college. KVIFF India’s only film festival is dedicated to the topic of environment and its message is to preserve, protect and save the earth for generation next. The program began with welcoming the team of KVIFF. Rtn. Prashant V.Kamat President Rotary Club Margao gave brief introduction about the activities conducted by KVIFF/Rotary. The theme for this year is Zero Waste Generation. Rotary club has adopted this theme to make Goa Clean and Green. Ms Mamta Kumari gave the presentation on“Clean Goa and Green Goa” She discussed the various activities such as Garbage segregation, Cleanliness drive,Tree plantation etc. conducted by the College . Ms Parvati FY Bcom student read a poem on environment .Documentary films on environment protection was screened by KVIFF. The session was concluded by motivating student towards environment protection and preservation for future generations. Mr. Mandar Fatarpekar proposed the vote of thanks.

Ms. Lorraine Fernandes started the training for Global Communication Skills and Soft Skills for the students of Third Year BCOM, BCA, BBA (FS) and Second Year MCOM.

Library Day Celebration – 16th December 2015

The four institutions of Vidya Vikas Mandal namely Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Ramcrishna Mahadeva Salgaoncar Higher Secondary school and Vidya Vikas Academy jointly celebrated Library Day. Dr. Tapaswi Murari, Officer on Special duty at Goa University was the Chief Guest for the Occasion.The President of Vidya Vikas Mandal C.A. Ganesh Daivajnya, Chief Librarian of Vidya Vikas Mandal Mrs. Manasi D. Rege, Board of Members of Vidya Vikas Mandal and all the Principals of Vidya Vikas Mandal Institutions were present for the function.

The major highlight was the launching of Library Video on Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics Library, which was developed and conceptualised by the students of Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics. Library Automation of RMS Higher Secondary School Library and Vidya Vikas Academy School Library was inaugurated at the hands of the President, C. A. Ganesh Daivajnya .Book Exhibition was inaugurated at the hands of Chief Guest Dr. Tapaswi Murari. A Tribute to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, father of Library Science was also paid. The Chief Guest in his speech lauded the initiatives taken by Vidya Vikas Mandal and congratulated for launching the library video and for the excellent work that has been done in the Libraries of VVM. He appreciated the team work and efforts taken by all the librarians for the development of the VVM Libraries .He also congratulated the Vidya Vikas Mandal and all the Principals of the Institutions for their overenthusiastic support.

The event also marked the culmination of the activities like poetry recitation ,book mark competition, poster competition on authors, designing cover page of a book, extempore ,book review competition. The chief guest Dr. Tapaswi Murari gave away the prizes to the winners .

Fun Week Celebration – 17th December – 22nd December 2015

Students’ Council organized Fun Week which displayed talent ,coordination and team spirit of our students. The first day of the fun week was Twin Day and Childrens Day. Students enjoyed and were dressed in school uniforms. They sang nursery rhymes of their school time. All the students those were dressed as twins were asked to introduce each other and judged by the crowd.

  1. Hussain and Sohail Mansur were adjudged as best twins.
  2. Ganesh Mali was adjudged as the best Child

Singing competition was also organised The winners were as follows:

Solo :

  2. 2nd place – Yashoda Rathod

Duet:

  1. 1st place – Aniket and Nisha
  2. 2nd Place – Gail and Jerisa

Group:

The judges for the competition were Ms Ulpa Waingankar and Mr Mandar Fatarpekar.

The second day of the fun week was Bollywood day ,students were dressed as bollywood celebrities and participated in the parade. Diptesh was judged as the best bollywood celebrity.

For the dance competition theme was also Bollywood. The competition was held in two categories: Solo & Group.

  1. 1st place – Purva and group
  2. 2nd place – Suvarna and group

The judges for the competition were Mr.Praveen Ghadi, Mr. Gaurav Naik,and Mr. Mahendra

The third day of the fun week was Traditional day. The Students’ Council for the first time organised an appreciation programme for the non-teaching staff. They were felicitated by the students.Games were also organised for them which they all enjoyed. It was followed by Mr and Miss Damodar competition. Mr Tushar Naik was crowned as Mr Damodar and Miss Yogita Pawar won the title of Miss Damodar.

The last day of the fun week was celebrated as Funky day. The main attraction of the day was fashion show competition. The winners of the fashion show were Adnan and group and the 2nd place was secured by Nehasha and group. The competition was judged by Mr. Sameer Shaikh and Mr. Antonio Pacheco.

All the winners of the various competitions held during the fun week were awarded the prizes. Miss Savia Da’Costa was declared as the best compere and the Second Year students were declared as the best organisers. The title of Rose King and Rose Queen was secured by Rehan Shaikh and Yogita Pawar.

Seminar on ‘Scope of Biotechnology’ (VVA Snr. Sec. Section)

2As an initiative of career guidance cell, the students of Class XIIB, Senior Secondary Section Vidya Vikas Academy took part in a Seminar on ‘Scope of Biotechnology’ conducted by Mrs. Madhavi Motankar, FSAB, Asst. Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Smt.Parvatibai Chowgule College.

The main aim of the seminar was to debunk the common notion that “Biotechnology has no scope in India”. Mrs. Motankar, over the course of the talk, explained the various fields of interest one can choose from in Biotechnology.She gave a very in depth description of what the field actually consists of and spoke about its contributions to human welfare. She made the students understand the need to keep their options open and not assume that they will get admission into the professional course of their choice.

The students were very interactive, having learnt the basics of Biotechnology as part of the curriculum and were eager to ask for more details on how they could make Biotechnology their career option.

Towards the end, Mrs. Motankar gave a list of career options in Biotechnology and named a few prestigious institutes for professional degrees and job opportunities. She ended the seminar by inviting the students to attend an exhibition in the Biotech department at Chowgule’s.
The students are sure to add Biotechnology in their list of career options thanks to Mrs. Motankar’s lovely presentation.

VVM Library Day Celebration 2015

Library Day Celebration – On Stage Events (Kare College)

On the Eve of VVM’s Second Library Day Celebration, On-Stage event was conducted on 16th December 2015 wherein Dr. Tapaswi Murari, Special Officer on Duty, Goa University graced the occasion as Chief Guest and inaugurated Book Exhibition. C.A. Ganesh Daivajna, President, Vidya Vikas Mandal inaugurated the Functioning of NewGenLib Library Automation Software in the R.M.S. Higher Secondary School Library and Vidya Vikas Academy Library.

Julian D’Costa Selected for National Science Camp (VVA Snr. Sec. Section)

1A student of the Sr. Sec. Section of Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao Goa, Julian D’Costa of Class XII A is selected for National Science Camp at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

He will attend this science camp for five days in the month of December. The camp involves laboratory visits and lectures from eminent scientists from around the world. Julian was selected through the KVPY programme. He won KVPY Fellowship in the year 2014-2015, standing 57th in India.

The Vertex – Inter-school Competitions organized by Presentation Convent (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

38Vidya Vikas Academy participated in ‘The Vertex’ the cultural festival organized by Presentation Convent, Margao. It was held on 11th and 12th December 2015.

All together our students participated in twelve events. Wealth our of waste, Drawing, Hair Styling, Mehendi Art, Poster Designing, Jewellery Making, Face Painting, Nail Art, Master Chef and Mini Chef (Mom and Me), Gift Wrapping, Candle Décor and Make a Hat.

Each and every student put up a brilliant performance and won loads of prizes.

NSS Unit Activities (Kare College)

22A two day Awareness programme on ‘Youth and HIV/AIDS’ by the NSS unit of G.R.KARE COLLEGE OF LAW held on 11th and 12th Dec, 2015. Brilliant presentation by Dr. Jagdish Cacodkar, Director Professor and HOD, Preventive and Social Medicine, Goa Medical College on the Medico-physical aspects of HIV/AIDS.

Indo- German painting contest at VVA (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

39As a part of the German cultural week celebration in Goa, VVA in collaboration with Deutsche Welle (Germany’s international Broadcaster) organised a painting contest for VVA students of Class 9 and 10.

The theme of the competition was ‘GERMANY’. Students were asked to create visuals on paper giving their perspective of Germany. The competition was conducted on 5th Dec. ’15 in the VVA art room.

The prize distribution function was held in the VVA Art Room on the 9th of Dec. ’15.

Myedica Barretto bagged the first place, Amanda Dias bagged the second place and Saavendra Furtado won the third place.
Dr. Aurobindo Xavier congratulated the students and gave away the prizes.

The function was attended by our Principal Dr. Alan Rodrigues, Vice Principal Mrs. Tania Monteiro, Computer teacher Mr Sarvadnya Sambari, the participants and our German guests.
