Careers in Sports
The Career Cell in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Sports organized an enlightening session titled ‘Careers in Sports’ on 20th March 2024 from 12.00-1.00 pm in hall no 2. The session aimed to provide insights and information to individuals interested in pursuing a career in sports. Mr. Shashwat Kamat, Ex-Performance Analyst, FC Goa and JSW Bengaluru and lead Consultant for several sports projects, served as the Resource Person. Siddhivinayak Hadapad, General Secretary of Sports Council, provided an overview of the session and Mr. Dewaraj Hirekurabar, College Director of Physical Education & Sports introduced the Resource Person highlighting his expertise and achievements in the field.
Mr. Kamat commenced the session by sharing his personal journey in the sports industry and the remarkable success he achieved on certain assignments. The first segment of the session focused on performance analysis and data science. He emphasized that performance analysis and data science have become integral aspects of modern sports. The importance of data-driven decision-making in enhancing athletic performance is gaining significant importance in the recent years. He introduced students to various tools and technologies used in performance analysis, such as GPS tracking, video analysis software etc. Mr. Kamat discussed the skills required in the area of performance analysis and data science, including proficiency in statistical analysis, programming languages and understanding of sports analytics principles. Case studies showcasing how data analytics have revolutionized sports performance and strategy was also explained in brief.
In the second segment, Mr. Kamat shed light on career opportunities in sports management. He provided insights into the diverse opportunities available in sports management, including event management, marketing, finance, and facility management. Emerging career paths within sports management, such as sports event coordinator and sports marketing manager, were highlighted. The importance of networking and gaining practical experience through internships or volunteering in sports organizations was stressed upon. 100 students attended the session. Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education proposed the Vote of Thanks and Ms. Pooja Shanbhag, Convenor of Career cell coordinated and facilitated the session.
