Annual Athletic Meet
VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics (SDCCE) hosted its Annual Athletic Meet on 8th February 2025, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Vidya Vikas Mandal Ground. Around 150 students participated in this event organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, and was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Vikram Verlekar, Chairman of the Sports Governing Council, Vidya Vikas Mandal. Officiating Principal Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Desai welcomed the esteemed Chief Guest with a potted plant as a token of appreciation.
Following the welcome, Shri Vikram Verlekar unfurled the college flag, marking the commencement of the event. This was followed by a programme-wise march past, showcasing the discipline and spirit of the participants. After the march past, the Chief Guest lit the ceremonial torch and handed it over to an outstanding sportsperson of the college, who led the torch relay, symbolizing the start of the athletic competitions.
College Director of Physical Education & Sports, Dr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar, introduced the esteemed Chief Guest. In his inspiring speech, the Chief Guest emphasized the value of participation over victory, setting a positive tone for the day. The inaugural vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Saurabh Raikar, Instructor in Physical Education.
The sports day featured a variety of track and field events, including:
Track Events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, and 5000m races (Men & Women)
Field Events: Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Javelin Throw
Relay Events: 4x100m relay (Men & Women), Mixed 4x100m relay
Each student was limited to participating in two individual events and two relay events.

The Department also organized a 100-meter race and a Tug of War event for both male and female staff members of SDCCE. These activities fostered camaraderie and engagement among faculty members.
Prizes were awarded to the winners by the Officiating Principal, Vice Principal, Sports Director, and Physical Education Instructor. The ceremony concluded with the lowering of the college flag by Dr. Ajinkya Kudtarkar and Mr. Saurabh Raikar, who then handed it over to the Officiating Principal. The event concluded with the National Anthem, bringing a patriotic end to a day filled with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The organizers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Principal, Vice Principal, and all faculty members for their support and encouragement, which ensured the smooth execution and success of the Annual Athletic Meet 2025.
Expected Outcomes of the Activity
The Annual Athletic Meet aimed to instill values of sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance among students while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. Through participation in various track and field events, students had the opportunity to enhance their physical fitness and develop their athletic skills. The event also fostered a sense of team spirit and leadership, as students collaborated in team-based competitions. Recognizing and rewarding outstanding performances motivated students to strive for excellence, further boosting their confidence and determination. Additionally, the event contributed to the college’s institutional pride by showcasing the talent and dedication of its students in athletics.
