From Waste to Resource – A TERI – Dempo Initiative (VVA Primary/Secondary Section)

Hurray!! We at the academy have taken yet another leap by installing a wet waste composting chamber that has been funded by TERI-DEMPO.
This project will not only solve the problem of waste generation but will also help school to use the organic soil formed during the process.

Resource persons from TERI Ms. Shabana Kazi and Ms. Sultanat Kazi along with Mr. Baylon Gomes proprietor of Bhavish Enterprises visited Vidya Vikas Academy on 2nd September 2015 and conducted a training programme for the sub-staff, students and teachers to create an awareness about the system and method that should be followed so as to gain maximum benefit from the system.
The school has decided to ensure waste is segregated at source; reuse / recycle the dry waste; food waste from all locations to be brought to the chamber. The output compost material will be used as manure for school garden. The responsibility of taking care of the chambers will be taken by two sub-staff and group of student monthly.

Tr. Shaefali & Tr. Shilpa Sukumaran co-ordinated the programme.
