M.Com Orientation Program

The Post Graduate Department of Commerce at VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics in Margao, Goa, organized an orientation for the students of M.Com Part-I, with an aim to introduce the various subjects covered under the course, familiarize the students with the college facilities and provide an overview of the college infrastructure.

The session commenced on 6th of July 2024, at 11:30 am in Classroom No. T-304, with Ms. Twinkle Fernandes, along with Ms. Valencia Baptista and Ms. Edrea Picardo, warmly welcoming the students.

Ms. Twinkle Fernandes, the Programme Coordinator for M.Com, highlighted the different subjects covered throughout the course and explained the distribution of marks. She emphasized the importance of research work assigned in Semester III, specifically in Semester IV. Ms. Twinkle also briefed the students on the marks evaluation process, detailing how the Internal Semester Assessment (ISA) marks are combined with the Semester End Assessment (SEA) marks. Additionally, she informed the students about various guest lectures delivered by Chartered Accountants, industrialists, and other professionals. She also mentioned the importance internship and their benefits to the students.

The session was then taken over by Ms. Valencia Baptista, Assistant Professor, who provided an overview of the college infrastructure and the various facilities available to students, including the canteen and library. Ms. Valencia also made students aware of the difference schemes the college provides which the students can avail of and derive the benefits. Additionally, Ms. Valencia also spoke about spoke about the annual award function conducted by the M.Com Department at the end of the year motivate and appreciate the M.Com students excelling in their academics.

Next, Ms. Edrea Picardo, Assistant Professor discussed the various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities organized by the PG department exclusively for PG students. She highlighted that the department tries to engage students in various activities besides academics by conducting movie sessions, newspaper discussion session etc. She emphasized that through these activities the students are encouraged to read newspapers and stay updated on the business world. Ms. Edrea also mentioned the various clubs’ students can join and various activities conducted within these clubs.

Finally, Ms. Twinkle concluded the session by highlighting the significance of the M.Com degree and the various job opportunities available thereafter.

The session was attended by a total of 15 M.Com Part-I students.
