Leveraging Generative AI For Pedagogical Excellence in Higher Education
The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) and the Goa State Higher Education Council organized a capacity-building workshop titled “Leveraging Generative AI for Pedagogical Excellence in Higher Education” on 11th June 2024 at the Directorate of Art and Culture, Panaji. Three faculty members from our institution, Mr. Sanjay Velip, Ms. Swati Bhat, and Mr. Shreyas Dessai, were deputed to attend this workshop.
The Resource Person for the workshop was Dr. Suresh Namboothiri, Mentor for AI in High Impact Research and Pedagogical Excellence. The session covered various aspects of integrating generative AI into educational practices, including:
Generative AI for Education: Understanding the role of AI in enhancing teaching and learning processes.
Using AI for Preparing Classes: Strategies to utilize AI for class preparation.
AI for Instructional Assistance: Implementing AI tools to support instructional delivery.
Promoting Critical Thinking: Leveraging AI to foster critical thinking among students.
Fostering Creativity in Disciplinary Learning: Encouraging creativity in subject-specific learning through AI.
Creating Assessments: Designing assessments with the help of AI.
Building Study Aids: Developing study aids using AI.
Engaging Classroom Activities: Enhancing classroom engagement with AI-driven activities.
Examination Preparation Assistance: Utilizing AI for exam preparation.
The primary focus of the workshop was on prompt engineering. Various examples were discussed, and participants received hands-on training on using prompts effectively. This practical approach helped attendees understand the nuances of crafting and using AI prompts to maximize educational benefits.
