Presentation Competition: “Empowering Consumers: Navigating Quality with BIS Standards”
The Consumer Cell of the College organized a presentation competition on the theme, ‘Empowering Consumers: Navigating Quality with BIS Standards.’ The competition was exclusively designed for Higher Secondary Schools in Goa and took place in the College premises on 29th January, 2024. The primary objective of the competition was to empower the youth with ethical business practices, enhance awareness about consumer protection, and contribute to the overall development of a responsible and quality-driven market. 6 Higher Secondary Schools from across Goa enthusiastically participated in the competition.
The event commenced with an inauguration ceremony. The Principal welcomed the gathering. This was followed by a brief introduction of the event by Dr. Sheetal Arondekar, Coordinator of the event. The host introduced the judges Dr. Rodney D’Silva, Associate Professor from the Department of Commerce and Management and Mr. Omkar Pawaskar, Assistant Professor from the Department of Management Studies. Participating schools showcased their presentations, exploring various aspects of consumer empowerment, ethical business practices, and the significance of adhering to BIS standards. The topics covered a wide spectrum, including the role of consumers in shaping markets, the impact of substandard products on society, and the importance of quality certification. The judges evaluated the presentations based on content, presentation skills, and alignment with the theme. The judging process ensured fairness and transparency. Post-presentation, there were engaging interactive sessions where students had the opportunity to discuss their ideas with the judges and seek insights into consumer protection and quality standards. The first place was won by Miss. Shona Mascarenhas and Miss. Shaina Mascarenhas students of Smt. Chandrabhaga T. Naik Higher Secondary School, Curchorem and the second place was awarded to Ms. Dipshita Arondekar and Ms. Mayura Velip, students of Deepvihar Higher Secondary School, Mormugao. Ms. Abigayle Rodrigues a student from SY B.Com was the compere for the session and Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Marjina Shaikh, Convenor of the Consumer Cell.
