78th Independence Day
The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride at VVM’s Shree Damodar College of Commerce & Economics, Margao, Goa. The event, organized by the Cultural Council in collaboration with the NCC Army and Navy Wing, NSS, and Sports Council, marked a significant milestone in the history of our nation. The celebration brought together staff, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and students (totaling to 231 student participants) from various VVM institutions, including G R Kare College of Law and RMS Higher Secondary School.
The ceremony commenced at 8:30 a.m. in the college premises, with a parade review by Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, the officiating Principal of the college. Prof. Dessai then had the honor of hoisting the national flag, followed by the recital of the National Anthem. In his address, Prof. Dessai emphasized the profound importance of freedom and the responsibility that comes with it.
Following the flag hoisting, a short cultural program was presented by the Cultural Council, started with patriotic singing and group dances performed by the students of the college, which added to the patriotic fervor of the day and made it a memorable celebration of India’s independence.
The celebration continued with the Sports Council distributing prizes and certificates to students who had excelled in various sports events. These awards were presented by Officiating Principal, Prof. Sanjay P. Sawant Dessai, Vice Principal Dr. Shami Pai (Administration). ANO of the NCC Army Wing, Lt. Sandesh Gaonkar, distributed the Ranks to the NCC cadets.
The event concluded with the “Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign Rally, where NCC cadets from the Army and Navy Wings, along with NSS volunteers, Sports Council members, and students from the EBSB Club Cell, actively participated. This rally emphasized the spirit of patriotism and unity, leaving a lasting impression on all participants.
