“पावसोत्सव ”: Monsoon Festival

The Vasundhara Green Club & NSS Unit organized “पावसोत्सव ”: Monsoon Festival on 30th and 31st August 2024 in the college campus, that celebrated the significance of the monsoon season. The event featured a variety of competitions, each highlighting various ecological themes tied to the importance of monsoons:

Reel-Making Competition:Focused on the “Importance of Local Monsoon Vegetables,” where participants created engaging videos that emphasized the nutritional and cultural value of these seasonal produce.
Photography Competition:Themed “Raindrop Art,” this competition encouraged participants to capture the beauty artistic impact of raindrops, showcasing their intricate patterns and reflections in nature.
Poster-Making Competition:With the theme “Monsoon Rainwater Harvesting and Its Importance for Ecological Balance,” participants designed posters that emphasized the crucial role of rainwater harvesting for sustaining water resources and supporting biodiversity.

On 31st August 2024, a session titled “Embracing Monsoon Vegetables” was held for the students, featuring resource person Dr. Anna Neena George, Associate Professor at GVMS College. This session aimed to educate students on the nutritional and cultural importance of seasonal produce, especially those that thrive during the monsoon.

The event featured a documentary screening that explored the wide variety of vegetables cultivated during the monsoon season, their health benefits, and their role in traditional diets. The documentary provided insights into the growing, harvesting, and incorporating into local cuisine, offering students a valuable perspective on sustainable food practices. Following the screening, students engaged in interactive discussions and activities that deepened their understanding of the significance of embracing locally-sourced monsoon vegetables. The event not only promoted awareness about healthy eating and environmental sustainability but also fostered appreciation for the rich agricultural heritage tied to the monsoon season. A total of 61 students (38 male, 23 female) were part of the Monsoon Festival.

Expected Outcome of the Activity: 

Students will gain a deeper knowledge for the nutritional, cultural, and environmental significance of monsoon vegetables, fostering healthier and more sustainable eating habits.
